C3G FAQ and Errata
Welcome to your hub for C3G FAQs! Anything that might be confusing you about the general system of C3G should be found here, along with a compilation of FAQs related to individual units and powers.
General Question FAQ Q: Can C3G be used with Classic Heroscape? A: Yes, but it is not recommended. There are some figures and powers that, in our opinion do not mix well. One example of this is the Death Knights of Valkrill's Relentless Bonding. The ability to bond with Wolverine, for example, is something that C3G doesn't suggest doing, but this is a game and you can play it how you see fit. Q: Is C3G compatible with the red and blue attack and defense dice from the first edition Rise of the Valkyrie Master Set? A: Many C3G figures reference the number of blanks rolled on combat dice. These powers are designed to be played with the white combat dice found in the second edition of Rise of the Valkyrie Master set, Swarm of the Marro Master Set, Marvel Heroscape Master Set and Dungeons and Dragons Master Set and are fully compatible only with this set of combat dice. When using different dice, house rules are necessary to ensure full compatibility. Q: Why are there two names on the cards? A: C3G uses Secret Identities that function as a figure's "real" name, thus allowing you to field more than one Unique figure with the same name but a different Secret Identity. For example, Batman (Bruce Wayne) and Batman (Terry McGinnis) can be used in the same army, but Robin (Dick Grayson) and Nightwing (Dick Grayson) cannot. For details, look here. Q: What are the symbols at the bottom of the card? A: Along with the Super Strength Symbol from the Official Superscape cards, C3G has created a Flying Symbol. The reason for this is that in the world of comic books there are many characters that have the power of flight, and the use of the symbol frees up space on the card for other power text. Q: Are Castle Wall pieces considered terrain or obstacles? A: Castle Wall pieces are terrain. They're just a terrain tile that's very tall and they're modular in a way obstacles aren't. Terrain is what you use to build a map, obstacles are things you place on a map. The distinction can be boiled down to whether or not you can place other tiles on top of an object officially, if so then it is terrain, if not it is an obstacle. Special Rules FAQ

Q: Do the Hasbro Superscape figures follow C3G's Secret Identity rules? For example, is Hasbro's Spider-Man's name considered to be simply "Spider-Man"? A: When using the Hasbro Superscape figures in C3G, the Hasbro figures are considered to have their thematic Secret Identities, as follows:
Equipment Glyphs (Required Ruleset)

Q: Some heroes have powers that say they can't lose equipment glyphs by any means other than being destroyed. Does that mean Shadow Thief (or other glyph stealers) can't steal them? This may be obvious to some, but is he actually "losing" the ring if Shadow Thief takes it? A: The term "lose" as you have probably already assumed is a keyword used in our rules for Equipment glyphs. That term in the proper context as it is found on certain heroes' cards holds just as much power as any other official term like "move", "attack", "target", etc. In short, Shadow Thief can take a Makluan Ring glyph away from Mandarin (for example) because Mandarin wouldn't technically be "losing" the glyph. To "lose" a glyph, per the C3G rules, is to be wounded or destroyed. That also means that Mandarin could "drop" one if he chose to. Q: If you move onto an Equipment Glyph, does your movement stop? A: Yes. Unless stated otherwise on their cards or in the C3G Equipment Glyph rules, C3G Equipment Glyphs follow the same rules as Hasbro's Permanent Glyphs. Q: Can a figure pick up an Equipment Glyph when it is moved/placed during another figure's turn? A: Yes. A criterion to pick up an Equipment Glyph is that the figure must be on the space with the Equipment Glyph. How the figure gets there is irrelevant. However, if a special power requires that a figure be placed on an "empty space," the figure may not be placed on a space with a glyph. Event Heroes (Required Ruleset)

Q: How is an Event Hero different from a Unique Hero? A: Event Heroes and Unique Heroes are similar in that when selecting cards to put in your Army, you cannot select two of the same Event Army Card. However, Event Heroes do not count as Unique Heroes for the purposes of special powers, and come with a few special rules: 1) Event Heroes are never destroyed without first taking enough wounds to be destroyed. If a terrain rule or a special power on any Army Card, Glyph, or Destructible Object would automatically destroy an Event Hero, that terrain rule or special power instead inflicts 4 wounds on that Event Hero. 2) Players may never take temporary or permanent control of an opponent's Event Hero. 3) Event Heroes may not pick up Equipment Glyphs. Q: Are C3G's Knockback rules compatible with the red and blue attack and defense dice from the first edition Rise of the Valkyrie Master Set? A: The C3G Knockback Optional Rule Set was designed to be played with the white combat dice found in the second edition of Rise of the Valkyrie Master set, Swarm of the Marro Master Set, Marvel Heroscape Master Set and Dungeons and Dragons Master Set and is fully compatible only with this set of combat dice. When using different dice, house rules are necessary to ensure full compatibility. Q: If any figure with Deadly Shot/Strike and SuperStrength roll 2 attack dice and roll two skulls for an adjacent attack, how many Knockback points do they receive, 2 or 4? A: 2. Knockback points are determined by each skull rolled, not each hit counted. Q: Where do I place my figure if it has been moved by Knockback and falls over a cliff but its movement would end on a space that is occupied by a figure, destructible object, obstacle, etc.? A: You cannot move a figure onto an occupied space with these Knockback rules. So whether there's a tree or another figure down at the bottom of that cliff, you couldn't move the figure there and you'd have to stop and roll for Knockback damage since you couldn't move the figure. Q: Who moves a figure that is knocked back? It doesn't say who specifically moves the figure. A: Unless otherwise stated, the only player that can ever move a figure, is the player that controls that figure. Vehicle Destructible Objects (Optional Ruleset)

Q: I was reading the Destroying Vehicles section and I realized that if my Event Hero is occupying a vehicle when it is destroyed, and for whatever reason my Event Hero cannot occupy a legal space that the destroyed vehicle previously occupied, my Event Hero is supposed to be destroyed, but Event Hero rules state that "Event Heroes are never destroyed without first taking enough wound to be destroyed. If a terrain rule or a special power on any Army Card, Glyph, or Destructible Object would automatically destroy an Event Hero, that terrain rule or special power instead inflicts 4 wounds on that Event Hero." What should I do in this situation? A: This sounds weird I know, but give your Event Hero the 4 wounds as the Event Hero rules suggest, then finish playing the game, remembering that when a player has no figures on the battlefield, that player loses. So maybe the rest of your Army can win you the game, but your Event Hero is gone for good unless you have a special power or some way to bring him back. And the same applies to figures like Molly Hayes and Hercules. You just apply the wounds to them as their powers suggest, and if they are not destroyed and they still cannot be placed on the battlefield, they are simply lost and you continue playing the game until it is over. Q: The Vehicle Rules state that figures that occupy vehicles are no longer on the battlefield. Does that mean that the last figure in an Army can't use vehicles? After all, a player loses if he doesn't have any figures remaining on the battlefield. A: Under the Occupying Vehicles section, the rules state that "you now control that vehicle". This is VERY important to remember as you play the game with special powers that reference opponent's figures (DOs are treated as figures in C3G) and also when designing powers. This section also answers your question, because even though your last figure got into a car, the car is now your DO/figure. So the game is not over. Throwing Destructible Objects (Optional Ruleset)

5th Precinct Beat Cops

Q: Can I destroy someone else's adjacent Beat Cop to save my own figure from some wounds?
A: No, you can only use Protect and Serve with Beat Cops you control. Q: When a figure with a special power that triggers on a figure's wound or destruction, such as Carnage, attacks an opponent's figure next to his 5th Precinct Beat Cop, and the opponent destroys the Cop, does this trigger their special power? A: No. The 5th Precinct Beat Cops' card instructs the player of the defending figure to "destroy" the Cop, not the attacking player. Since the attacker technically is not the one destroying the figure, so a power that involves destroying or wounding a figure wouldn't trigger. This precedent was established in Classic Heroscape with the Horned Skull Brutes. A

Q: In Power Absorb, it tells you to remove Absorption Markers when Absorbing Man takes wounds. Do you remove those markers in addition to placing wounds, or instead of placing wounds?
A: In addition. For example, if Absorbing Man was receiving 3 wound from an attack, you place 3 wound markers on his card and then remove 3 Absorption Markers (or if you have less than that, you remove as many as you can). Amazo

Q: When a figure like Gentlemen Ghost has a Suicide Marker on its card and is destroyed when the X Order Marker is revealed on Waller's card, which player controls the card going forward?[*]A: The order of events is first the switching of sides, followed by Waller revealing the X to destroy the figure, thus the Gentleman Ghost card is still handed over to the opponent before the figure is removed from play.

Q: When exactly does Guardian Angel trigger? Is it immediately after defense dice are rolled and before damage is dealt? Or is it after wounds have been determined and placed on the cards?

Q: Can Harley Quinn bond with the Arkham Inmates using Insane Devotion though it specifies "after taking a turn with that figure"?
A: Yes. You treat the squad as a single figure. After taking a turn with the Arkham Inmates squad, you can bond with Harley Quinn one time after all of the squad members have ended their collective turn. Arnim Zola

Q: Reverse Engineering 16 states you can choose a glyph, but it further states a figure might be equipped with the chosen glyph. Can you select a glyph equipped by a figure within 3 spaces (on that figure's card), or must the chosen glyph be on the battlefield?
A: C3G's Equipment Glyph Rules state that glyphs with an area effect are considered to occupy the equipped figure's position. So you could choose either a glyph within 3 spaces on the actual battlefield or a glyph equipped by a figure on a figure occupying a space within 3 spaces. Non-Equipment Glyphs placed on Army Cards are not treated similarly, so, for instance, a Temporal Displacement Glyph on Kang's card would not be affected. Azrael

Q: If an Android is on a water space and attacked by Baron von Strucker's Satan's Claw Special Attack, does the player controlling that Android subtract 2 shields when defending against that attack?
A: Yes. After the player controlling the Android figure rolls defense dice against that attack, subtract 2 shields from the total number of shields, including any that are counted from special powers, such as Tough. Note that while this is extra effective against Android figures with Tough special power, Android figures with Shields of Valor type defensive powers still double any shield rolled and then subtract 2 from the total. Q: Can Baron Zemo reveal an "X" Order Marker on his card and count that for the skull rolled to trigger another attack when using Master Swordplay?
A: No, since a skull added is different than a skull rolled. Q: Can Baron Zemo use Master of Deception and allow a destroyed figure to reveal an Order Marker so that the lost turn can be used for another figure? A: No. Page 13 of Master Set 3 BftU states "When all figures on an Army Card have been destroyed, the Army Card is out of play. Do not reveal any unrevealed order markers that are on that card for that round of play." Q: Exactly how does Master Swordplay work with multiple adjacent opponent figures that are at standing on varying levels of height in relation to Baron Zemo? A: The first attack "locks in" a number of attack dice to roll, and every subsequent attack after that is based on the initial roll. Lets do an example: If Baron Zemo (with 4 Attack) had height advantage on the first target, he would be able to use Master Swordplay for a maximum of 5 attacks (using 5,4,3,2,1 dice), regardless of who he attacked after the first attack. This is assuming that he rolled at least 1 skull on each previous attack. Batgirl (Cassandra Cain)

Q: Can Batgirl use Shadow of the Bat even though another figure is going to take a turn after that Vigilante? For example, Batman reveals an Order Marker and Robin wants to use Vigilante Sidekick, can Batgirl still use Shadow the Bat?
A: Yes. Shadow of the Bat activates after the Vigilante moves, so the Vigilante's turn isn't over yet. The Vigilante could still attack after that. Robin's turn doesn't come in until after the Vigilante's full turn is over. Batman (Bruce Wayne) (I)

Q: If Beast Boy (T-Rex) sustains 1 wound from a previous attack and later is destroyed (activating Beast Forms from Beast Boy), should the first wound be removed from this card? A: No. The Beast Forms special power on the Metahuman Beast Boy's card only states that if any other Gar Logan figure should be destroyed you place 2 wounds on the Metahuman's card and replace the figure with another Gar Logan figure. Q: Can Black Adam use Courage of Mehen to counter powers that are defensive in nature, such as Batman's Evasive Strike?
A: No. The key words for Courage of Mehen are "If an opponent chooses Black Adam". Courage of Mehen can only be used to alter the 20-sided die from a power that must specifically choose Black Adam as the target. Black Canary

Q: How do I climb with Black Cat?
A: Quote:
When you would move with a flying figure, you count each space as you go while ignoring elevations. When Black Cat climbs, you count each space as you go basically ignoring up to 2 levels. So Black Cat moves just one space from level 0 to a level 2 hill and only used 1 movement. She could also move one space from level 0 to a level 4 hill and only use 2 movement. Q: Black Cat counts ladder rungs 2 for 1 since they are elevation changes? A: No, 1 ladder rung equals 2 elevations, so the bonus of the ladder is doing the same thing as the Climb ability, therefore only one is used at a time, your choice (you can look up the official ruling for Climb x2 and how it does not work on ladders if you need to). Q: If Black Knight rolls excess shields when defending from a combined special attack by a squad, would each figure that participated in the attack take damage from Absorb and Return?
A: No. Multiple figures that have a special attack to combine their attack can circumvent Black Knight's Absorb and Return. Q: If Black Knight is not targeted for a special attack but still must roll defense dice can he use Absorb and Return? An example might be Cyclops' Optic Blast Special Attack that does not target any figure, but instead targets spaces. A: Yes. The only requirements for Absorb and Return is that Black Knight must roll excess shields when rolling defense dice against a special attack. Black Lantern (Uncommon)

Q: How many black Battery Markers do these Black Lanterns have at the start of the game?
A: None. As with Absorbing Man and Bishop, you don't start a game with markers on the card unless an ability explicitly indicates you do. Black Lantern (William Hand)

Black Mask

Q: If a Criminal figure used a special attack while adjacent to Black Mask, would it receive one wound from Black Mask, whether that special attack inflicted wounds on the opponent or not?
A: Special Attacks are exempt from this power. If lets say a Criminal Sandman uses a special attack while adjacent to Black Mask, he cannot receive a +1 to his attack because Special Attacks are never Modified by other special powers, per the official Game Rules. If Sandman were to fail to inflict a wound with that special attack, he would not receive any wounds from Black Mask because he did not use a normal attack. Black Tarantula

Q: Can Black Tarantula reveal the X Order Marker to heal another figure when he is allowed to move during another figure's turn? For example: Martian Manhunter using Telepathic Directive.
A: No. The official ruling is that "before moving" powers have to take place directly before the Movement phase of that figure's turn. Black Widow

Q: What happens when Black Widow uses Widow's Bite on a figure that has a defensive power that will limit the amount of wounds that figure would receive, such as Magical Defense?
A: The limit in the wounds will only apply to the result from the dice rolled. Widow's Bite is a bonus wound that may apply after wounds from dice rolling have been reduced. If Black Widow is able to do at least 1 wound to the target, then that figure will also take an additional wound from Widow's Bite. Blink

Q: Can I use Phase Javelin and Blink! on a double spaced figure?
A: No, because they only reference placing a figure on a space(not spaces). Blob

Q: Blob's special power of Immovable states he cannot be moved by any special power on an army card, but does not specify glyphs. Can Blob be moved by a glyph, such as the Glyph of Makluan Electromagnetic Rings?
A: Yes. Blob is not immune to glyphs that have movement powers. The same is true for figures affected by Blob's Stuck special power. Q: Can Blob choose to not use the Stuck special power? For example for Blob to use Knockback to push the opponent into a more dangerous position. A: Yes. Since this special power does not specifically state that it "must" be used then Blob has the choice to activate it or to not activate it. Blob, Knockback, and Other Placement Powers: Throwing or placement powers that say to "place" a figure, means one thing and also implies one thing:
Other figures cannot move Blob using Knockback because Knockback is an optional part of the Super Strength special power and Blob's Immovable power does not allow him to be moved by "any special power on any Army Card." Blob can move other figures using his own Super Strength and Knockback. Stuck is an optional special power, so Blob may choose to "let go" of adjacent, opposing figures and allow them to be moved. If a figure is Stuck to Blob, it may still take Knockback Damage, since Blob has Super Strength and his Stuck special power is preventing the defending figure from being moved. Blue Beetle

Q: Does Blue Beetle count toward startzone figure limits?
A: Yes. All figures in your army count toward your figure limit, even if they do not begin the game in the startzone or on the battlefield. Brainiac

Brainiac is an Event Hero and follows Event Hero rules.
Brainiac starts the game with a Glyph of Shrinking Ray Gun, which follows Equipment Glyph rules. Q: Can I use Brainiac's 12th Level Intellect special power to alter the results of a special attack, leaving engagement attack, or any other special power that rolls attack dice? A: Per the official rules, special attacks cannot be modified by other special powers, including this one. However, 12th level intellect can absolutely be used to alter the results of any normal attack, leaving engagement attack or special power. Just remember that special attacks cannot be modified by any other special power, including this one. Q: What happens to the figures placed on this card? A: The collected figures are not necessarily out of the game and they are not destroyed. They are just extremely difficult to get back. If there was a figure that could bring itself back into the game, or some type of summoning power on another card that might be able to bring back other collected figures, the collected figures may be able to come back. While on Brainiacs' card due to Miniaturized Collection that figure is still part the controlling player's army but not currently under that player's control. Therefore any special power that refers to the figure in the bottle as a figure "you control" cannot activate. On the same note no power that requires clear sight or a limited distance of the figure can activate as that figure is not on the battlefield. Order Markers can still be placed and revealed on these figures however. Brainiac 5

Q: When Brainiac 13 uses Artificial Intelligence 13 on a common Android or Cyborg Hero to take control of the corresponding Army Card, does that player take control of all the common Android or Cyborg Heroes in play that match the Army Card?
A: Yes, because common figures only have one Army Card per player. C

Q: Can Captain America gain the bonus from Avengers Assemble?
A: No. The power stipulates that only figures you control "within clear sight of Captain America" will receive any bonus. As figures cannot be in clear sight of themselves, Captain America can not gain any bonus from Avengers Assemble. Captain Boomerang

Q: Suppose Captain Boomerang attacks Spider-Man with his Razor Boomerang Special Attack, and Spider-Man avoids it with Spidey-Senses 9 and moves away to a position up to 2 spaces from his original position. Could you choose Spider-Man as one of the 3 figures, even though he was the defender in the attack?
A: Yes. When you choose the 3 figures, remember to select the figures based on the defending figure's original placement, and not based on the current position of the defender. So the defender can be one of the figures, provided he remains within 2 spaces of his original placement. You may even select the defending figure if it doesn’t move. Captain Britain

Q: Do you Check for Unsteady Confidence before or after affects like Black Cat's Bad Luck Aura, or Scarlet Witch's Hex-Sphere Disturbance 5, or Brainiac's 12th Level Intellect?
A: After. Those powers modify the results of the roll. Unsteady Confidence triggers after these effects resolve, and checks against the final result. Captain Marvel (Billy Batson)

Q: Can Captain Marvel use his special powers of Wisdom of Solomon and Stamina of Atlas if he is not on the battlefield because he was switched with Billy Batson?
