Anyway, the time has finally come for my last custom general to arrive: Tyra. Tyra's a bit different from most generals in that she's never drank from a Wellspring and can't summon warriors to Valhalla. That's by choice however. Tyra is vehemently against using the Wellsprings, both because of how they've escalated petty conflicts into full-scale war and because she fears their use endangers all of time and space (and lets face it, she's probably onto something there, plucking people from out of history willy-nilly can't be doing the time-stream any favors). As such, she doesn't command an army or hold any territory; She never has, as unlike most of the generals, she was just a simple farmer before Valhalla erupted into total war. All she really is a voice. A voice for all those disenfranchised with the battle for all time, for those that want to see the wellsprings influence removed, and for those that just want to go home. Unfortunately, that voice is often distorted or misunderstood; no two 'cells' of Tyra's movement really share the same goals or morals, some are pacifists, others basically terrorists.

This rather simple symbol means something completely different depending on who you ask.

Her first figure: The Outcast.

Born out of a forbidden love between a minion of Utgar and one of Jandar's shieldmaidens, the outcast spent his early life hidden away with his parents in a remote valley. His father and mother had hoped to live a quiet life of peace away from either of their factions, but that peace was shattered when the wellsprings sparked Utgar and Jandar's conflict to new levels. A battle between a contingent of Omnicron Snipers and a Marro swarm spilled into the valley, and when the fighting was done, both Husband and Wife had died in the crossfire. On that day, the Outcast forsook his own name, swearing only to reclaim it once Valhalla was a world he could truly call his own. A world undivided by petty rulers and arbitrary lines on a map, a world free of prejudice and conflict, and most importantly a world no longer trampled on by skinless monsters, soulless metal men, or any other otherworldly creatures.

So, now that 'generalpalooza' is done, I'm holding a vote! Anyone who wants to can post who their favorite of the new generals is (and why if you are so inclined). The general with the most votes gets to have their next figure finished first, any general with no votes gets their figure thrown in an incinerator and then they are stricken from continuity!

Anyway, Today is the start of a special project! I've decided to create a set of 12 custom generals for some of my customs to follow, mostly because I'm sick of how totally vague the motivations and personalities are for the official ones. They won't have figures or anything (just like the real generals), but they do get card layouts and symbols of their very own.

My first General is Volthrax the gilded, he's a greedy hedonistic jerk, that surrounds himself with gold, jewels, and other greedy hedonistic jerks. Virtually none of his troops have any sense of loyalty, and they'll turn on him as soon as they see a better deal, but that suits Volthrax just fine. In his mind everyone has a price, everyone is just waiting to betray you, he'd rather have troops that are predictably treacherous than allegedly 'loyal' or 'good' followers anyway. In the end all that matters is profit and the great material continuum.

His symbol:



But you can't have a general without soldiers, so I also have today's custom figure: The wishmaster O'Div A'Wer! He's a Djinni (a genie) that can alter reality itself, but only when granting a wish. He hates that he's stuck serving other people, so as soon as his 'master' uses up their last wish, he moves on to a new one... ideally the last guys worst enemy.

O'Div is also from a custom homeworld (like the generals, I find the official worlds frustratingly vague) known as Eldicar. It's basically a planet of badass Conan adventurer types, but they have to be badass to survive the place, as the whole world has been shattered to pieces (literally) by the influence of dark gods and eldritch horrors.

Anyway, on to my next custom general: Ozirael. Unlike Volthrax, Ozirael values loyalty, blind, totally unthinking loyalty. As such he recruits from cults and other fanatical organizations that run on blind faith. Ozy is on a total power trip, and loves being worshiped, so he usually tries to set himself up as some important figure in the belief system of any of the groups he recruits (naturally, he doesn't actually share any of the beliefs or values his troops do). Of course, trying to juggle a bunch of different radical groups (some of which are in complete opposition to each other) is pretty much impossible, so Ozirael does have an inner circle that are in on his cons. Once he can find a way to complete his apotheosis into proper for real godhood though, his inner circle is in for a bad time, as is anyone else not on their knees in supplication.

Basically, he's the general for bad guys that have deluded themselves into thinking they're good guys.

His symbol:



Now for his first trooper: the Nhah Scirh Dragonslayer! He's part of the Nhah Scirh cult mentioned in Niflhiem's bio and is dedicated to purging the 'evil' of Dragons from the world (well, worlds now, Sonlen's Dragon makes him sad). He even uses parts of the Dragons he's killed as armor and weapons, all enchanted dark magics.

I guess I should note that this has nothing to do with the C3V's take on the Nhah Scirh. He's not intended to be part of the same continuity as they are or match with them in anyway. My customs are they're own separate little universe. I've been working on this guy since March 2009 (check the wip pic at the bottom of the post), so I think that entitles me to go my own way here.

Anyway, another day, another new general: Frejya. Frejya is the first of my 'good' generals (also my first female general, of which I will have many more, since there's only one official one, and I have to have my ratios be balanced out), in her case a little too good.

Unlike the other Valkyrie, she doesn't use her wellspring powers to summon mighty warriors or powerful creatures that fall in battle, she uses them to summon farmers about to face starvation, townsfolk in danger of being overrun by barbarian hordes, stray cats that might have hurt themselves if they fell out of that tree... she can't stand seeing anyone in trouble, and wants to build a community where everyone can live happily ever after. As such, she doesn't really command an army (or consider herself a Valkyrie 'general' for that matter, more like a Valkyrie BFF), her 'rescues' just form make-shift militias when they have to defend themselves. Fortunately, what they lack in strength (and skill, and cunning, and...) they make up for in community spirit. It also helps that Frejya's twin sister is a Valkyrie too (ya'll will get to meet her latter), and very much a Valkyrie General, one who's army doesn't take kindly to anyone picking on the wimpy village people.

Her Symbol:



Unlike Volthrax and Ozirael, Frejya doesn't go for the vanity head-shot. Her symbol is far more abstract, designed to resemble a heavily stylized tree. The intersecting 'roots' converging on the central design are meant to invoke a feeling of community, of being part of (and supported by) a greater whole.

And her first figure: Aya Morningbrook. Aya is a Kith, which are basically Kithkin from Magic the Gathering (I'm a fan of the Lorwyn block, so sue me), or Hobbits if you're a LOTR fan (which I am not). Aya is a Shepard by trade, but when push comes to shove she's capable of guiding more than just live stock.

I'm also introducing another custom homeworld today, in this case Aya hails from the planet Grymwold.

Grymwold is basically planet fairy-tale (with the Kith being one of the races taking the place of humans), but more old school Brother's Grimm fairy-tales than Disney. Bad things happen if you go in the woods at night, spirits and ghosts are out to get you, treacherous fairfolk will steal your baby etc. It's not all bad though, sometimes things go the 'Disney' way, and there are plenty of benevolent supernatural thingies to contract the terrifying ones. My earlier friendly scarecrow the Spirit of Autumn also hails from this planet for example (secret foreshadowing! and he's not the only one...).

Anyway, on to custom general 4 (of 12): Sigyn. She the twin sister of Freyja I mentioned earlier, and in many ways her opposite. She doesn't believe in cuddling, she only wants warriors that are the best of the best, that live for a challenge. That's really all Sigyn cares about, challenging herself. She and her warriors are always looking to prove themselves, taking on a legion single-handily, attacking a Dragon with a fork, trying to punch-out Cthulhu, that sort of thing. She's still more or less a good guy though, there's no glory in slaughtering innocents and such, and it's simply more challenging to act honorable in combat and fight against impossible odds and such.

She also has a bit of a soft spot for her sister, and she'll often send her warriors to rescue Freyja's 'charity cases' when they're in trouble even if there isn't much glory to be found. She won't admit to it though. After all, she didn't send her warriors to rescue a bunch of her sister's farmers, she sent them to slay a dragon. That a bunch of farmers happened not to get burned to death is a total coincidence.


Her Symbol:



Like Freyja, Sigyn isn't into vanity shots. She keeps her symbol nice and simple, it's just a sword. Because that's what you stab monsters with.

And her first figure: Kren Argus. Argus is a Darnan, which are the more-or-less-humanish dominate species of Eldicar (the same homeworld O'Div A'Wer is from). At least they were the dominate species before their world literally broke into pieces and terrifying Eldritch horrors started mucking up the place.

That's were Argus comes in. Since there aren't an awful lot of Darnans left around and even less useful land and resources, most of the larger groups have a champion they call their 'Kren'. When two groups get into a dispute about land or what have you, instead of having a full battle and wasting lives and potentially destroying whatever they were fighting over in the first place, the Krens of the respective parties just try to kill each other like civilized folk. The winning Kren earns his team the right to the land or whatever, the losing Kren's team is stuck looking for a new resident badass. Of course, it's also the Kren's job to lead the charge against monsters and such that don't play by the rules.

Argus takes to both parts of his job with equal gusto, he just loves getting to fight against a worth opponent. Even in the midst of a massive battle he'll try to single out another Hero to engage in epic combat. These matches can often determine the tide of the whole battle, the winner inspiring the rest of his army with his victory.

Anyway, on to general number 5: Xenothea. Xenothea's thing is secrets, subterfuge and behind the scenes manipulation. She so secretive in fact, that most of the other generals don't even know she exists. That suits her just fine though, as she's an arrogant, pompous jerk that doesn't consider the other generals worthy enough to speak her name ('Xenothea' isn't even her real name in the first place, it's just an alias. Even her own troops aren't good enough to know who she actually is).

She descends from an ancient line of Kyrie royalty, and as such only wants the finer things in life. That includes her troops, she only picks the most skilled, impressive, and fabulous for her entourage, she has no time for the common rabble. Because of this, she doesn't really have an army per say, merely a group of elite operatives that manipulate the war for Valhalla with flase-flag operations, assassinations, mysterious strangers showing up to 'help' in a battle, mind control... and all sorts of morally horrible black-ops shenanigans. Xenothea wouldn't have it any other way though, war is for commoners, it's much more fun to watch your enemies kill each other for you, while you sit back and enjoy fine wine, finer company, and only the snootiest of laughter.

Like herself, Xenothea's symbol is a mix of mystery and overwrought pompousness. What is it? You're not cool enough to know that.

And her first figure: the Night Whisperer. The Night Whisperer is a creepy nightmare spirit from Grymwold (the fairy-tale planet Aya Morningbrook is from) that can manipulate people through their dreams and subconscious. Just one look into her prey's eyes and she can get a hold in their mind, with the added bonus of slightly masking her presence from their sight. From there she can turn them into her sleeper agents (get it? it's a pun!), capable of plunging them into a waking nightmare where they see their allies as monsters or what have you and unknowingly follow her commands whenever she chooses. Even her 'death' won't remove this programming, the form she takes on the battlefield is just an avatar, her true self lurks in the dream-realm, and you can't kill a dream. The mind is her playpen and she's rough on her toys.

Running late, but I have general number six ready. We're half way there, whoa-oh living on a prayer.

Anyway, today's general: Bragi. Bragi is all about learning and knowledge, not in the 'exploit secrets' way Xenothea is, more in the 'for science!' way. Bragi sees the wellsprings as the greatest tool possible in his quest for knowledge, using them to peer into the pasts of hundreds of worlds, and of course he also uses them to recruit like-minded souls to help in his quest. Adventures, historians, wizards, mad inventors, any are welcome as long as they bring something new to add to the pool.

Unfortunately, having a crazy war on is not conducive to experiments or archaeological expeditions, and Bragi has been forced to get involved. In particular, Bragi fights to preserve historical sites, artifacts, and knowledge that might be damaged in the battle for all time (or intentionally destroyed by other generals indulging in historical revisionism or censoring), while also keeping a true, unbiased record of the war. Fortunately, most of Bragi's science buddies know how to handle themselves in a fight. Knowledge is power, and the battlefield is a great place to test out the lightning gun you just invented.

It's a thingy!

And his first figure: The Wandering Wizard! Mr. Wizard here is from Grymwold like the Night Whisperer and Aya Morningbrook. He's constantly roaming the land to learn it's secrets, popping up in random places all the time and ready to lend a hand. He uses his magic to find the hidden paths that connect all places and things. That connection lets him, for example, open a magic door in a tree, walk in, and then exit out of a glacier. He can also use his connection to cause doors to swing open, branches to fall, etc. allowing him to take out his enemies in hilariously embarrassing ways.

Anyway, another new General: Hekatiane. Hekatiane's thing is balance and the natural order. But not in the nambi-pami generic fantasy way. The natural order isn't butterflies and deer frolicking in the forest, the natural order is creatures killing to survive, give and take, everything ultimately coming to an end. Hekatiane strives to help keep everything in a horrifying balance of life and death, guided by various spirits she gets visions from. Her motives and goals come across as mysterious and unknowable to even her own troops on occasion, one moment she might unleash a plague upon a whole village, the next she might save another village from a drought.

It's another thingy!

Her first figure: Bormogg the plague guardian. Bormogg here is a Durgeth, the guys that were basically driven to extinction in the backstory to that one map in ROTV. A few were 'saved' by Hekatiane, offered shelter and a place to live in exchange for devotion to her cause. In Bormogg's case, that devotion meant becoming the vessel for a deadly plague that Hekatiane needed contained. He can channel this plague against others if needed through his staff, but each time he does it accelerates his own symptoms. All things in terrifyingly cruel balance and all that.

She hates chaos and freedom and such, and is generally incredibly OCD about everything, which makes her less than a fan of the whole 'battle of all time' thing going on in her backyard. Using her wellspring powers, she's summoned other lawful types to help her carve out a zone of order and boringness in the chaotic war-torn world that is Valhalla. Eventually, she'll probably try for the whole 'conquer the universe' thing most of the other generals go for, but not because she wants rule over everything, it just seems like the only logical course of action to give her some peace and quiet.

Everyone is a gear in the great machine.

Her first figure: the Rüstungeist. Rüstungeists are suits of living armor powered by spirit energy. They hail from the planet Arcana, which is a semi-steampunk, gothic type world. On Arcana, Rüstungeists serve as a totally neutral, totally uncompromising force of order, acting as police, guards, marshals, bailiffs and what-have-you. Those summoned by Luselene act in much the same way, squashing anything disorderly with exacting precision.

Anyway, another new general: Aritima. Aritima is basically the opposite of Luselene, being as obsessed with change as Luselene is obsessed with order. Aritima equates stagnation with extinction, so she's constantly reinventing herself and her army to fit whatever trend she's into at the moment. Fortunately, most of her troops are adaptable enough to go with whatever their general's current flow is. Anyone that can't keep up might just find themselves forcibly altered to suit Aritima's whims, she's got no time for obsolete stick-in-the-muds.

It's a face!


Her first figure: The Changeling Fluxform. Changeling's are bizarre shapeshifters from the planet Qurvitz II. Qurvits II is pretty bizarre itself, basically being a planet primarily made of ooze, slime, and weird glowly stuff. It might even be 'eating' it's comparatively-normal 'twin' Qurvitz I through a gigantic slime tendril 'space elevator' that connects the two worlds. To survive in such a crazy place, all changelings have evolved to be incredibly adaptive, being able to alter their bodies in various ways. Fluxforms aren't capable of the drastic changes some subspecies are, but they make up for it in how fine they can control their shifting. A Fluxform can hit as hard, move as fast, or endure as much as it needs to for any situation.

Anyway, time for today's new general (using 'general' in the loosest sense possible): Yrsa. Yrsa is all about freedom, but not freedom in the 'Captain America' way, freedom in the 'completely unbound by rules, laws, or morals' way. She believes everyone should be free to do anything they want at anytime, no matter how dangerous, destructive, or horrible. As such, she summons 'misunderstood artists' (serial killers), 'oppressed political groups' (anarchists), and the like. Basically, she's less a commander of an army and more of a host for a crazy sadomasochistic rave. Needless to say, none of the other generals are too happy when Yrsa decides to invite herself and her pals over for a 'party'.

It's a funky face!

Her first figure: Bonk. Bonk is a stitched-together undead monstrosity from Arcana (the 'steampunk' world the Rüstungeist is from), but even more terrifying, he is also a clown. A clown/roustabout in the Cirque du carnage, Arcana's premier traveling performance group/band of crazed psychos! Thanks to Yrsa, the Cirque is on an extended Vahalla tour, free to give their audience no end of entertainment and/or stab wounds. For Bonk's part, he just really enjoys smashing things. Tent poles, pies, people.. Bonk is equal opportunity smasher of things.

Ragnar, the barbarian general. Ragnar is accompanied by the Dha'Beal, a fearsome mouth monster who spends twice as long as you do to brush his teeth.

Anyway, I've got the penultimate new general today: Ragnar. Ragnar just hates civilization in general, and only values brute force and savagery. Anything more civilized than a fork enrages him; he's not too keen on forks for that matter, sporks are right out. Ragnar's 'army' mostly consists of giant uncontrollable monsters he lets lose to cause random havoc, 'random havoc' is about as complex a strategy as his few 'intelligent' troops can muster too for that matter.

Scratchy claw marks are about as artistic as Ragnar gets.


His first figure: The Dha'beal. This crazy mouth monster is one of the A'rach, a species of giant territorial beasts native to Eldicar. The cataclysmic environment of Eldicar has caused each A'rach to radically adapt to their individual territories and no two of them look particularly similar anymore. In the Dha'beal's case, it's developed a secondary mouth so it can ward its territory with terrifying roars even when in the middle of snack-time (it is always snack-time).

Last but not least, the isolated Tyra. She is accompanied by The Outcast, bent on revenge, and seeks to rid Valhalla of the wellspring's influence.
