I'm not sure I understand the question. Yes, if you stopped the game at that time and went to scoring (either partial card scoring or by-the-book full card scoring), then yes, it would be a tie. The same could be said of any figure in the game.

However, there's nothing about an Ebon Armor mirror match that lends itself to a draw. They can attack and kill each other, and you could just play it out until only one player has any Animata left standing. They can't bring themselves back (they need unique humans to do that, and that's a finite supply) so it wouldn't stretch out for too long.
Perhaps I am misunderstanding the first ability, or the rules of engagement... These dudes have a range of 1. So to attack, they must be adjacent/engaged to the figure they are attacking. But through the Defensive Positioning ability, they are engaged, and they have no visible hit zones. So my Ebon Armor standing next to an opponent's Ebon Armor... I figured they can't see each other.
Fairly new to the game; what am I missing here?
Ah, I see. Thanks for clarifying the question.

What you're missing is that you can always attack figures you are adjacent to; attacking an adjacent figure does not require being able to see hit zones. Defensive Positioning only protects the Ebon Armor from ranged attacks.

Re: The Book of Ebon Armor

If you are adjacent, you can always attack unless there's ruins or something in between you.

EDIT: Somehow didn't see that I was on page 3, thus did not see how late I was to the party.

You can always attack a figure that's adjacent. [Still page 2 on my settings, so I assume the party is going strong. Can someone pass me a beer?]

Your custom probably has too much Defense.

Just want to point out that all the figures released in Wave 21 "Curse of Stormtorn Peak" now receive synergy benefits from Ebon Armor's Animated Materiel

Re: The Book of Ebon Armor

While on the topic of updating the Book for these guys, the Power Ranking isn't listed here yet despite being posted on the Power Rankings thread. I've noticed that this is a common thing for C3V/SoV Books, but it'd be nice if it could be added.

I've quoted the relevant rank and explanation from the thread for convenience:

My theory is that a mix of Unique Squads with as many figures as possible would work well. For the next Gang of Four meeting on Wednesday, I'm going with

125 Ebon Armor
100 Krav
100 Kozuke Samurai
60 Izumi
60 Morgan's Riflemen
(Public Playtest)
50
Tarn
495

Morgan's Riflemen give Ebon Armor builds another nice ranged option.

I agree that Unique Human Squads are a great chance to use the Ebon Armor well, although I would probably try to ensure that the army has some synergies with each other, even without the Ebon Armor. To that end, I'd probably focus either on a Samurai or Agent build (like dok suggested), since those typically use multiple Unique Squads and can function alone as well. Rygarn might also be a good choice to throw in, since he could help with the Order Marker management for so many Uniques.

To that end, I'd probably want to take:
  • Ebon Armor - 125
  • Tagawa Samurai - 120
  • Izumi Samurai - 60
  • Tomoe Gozen - 110
  • Rygarn - 90
    Total: 505pts

I do like your use of ranged squads, though, since that could be used to great effect as well. The Morgan's Riflemen currently being tested are a new option that I didn't consider before, but I'm not entirely certain yet that I would want to sacrifice the extra defense for them. The Tarn Viking Warriors are another squad that I always try to keep in mind with the Ebon Armor, since you get a great number of Unique Humans for their cost.

Re: The Book of Ebon Armor

Well met!

  • Ebon Armor - 125 (4)*
  • Tagawa Samurai - 120 (3)
  • Izumi Samurai - 60 (3)
  • Tomoe Gozen - 110 (1)
  • Rygarn - 90 (1)
    Total: 505pts (12)
* Number of figures in parens

Interesting. But 5 points over (500). Even without Rygarn, Tomoe is a hard fit. I could go with

125 Ebon Armor (4)
110 Tomoe (1)
100 Krav (3)
100 Kozuke Samurai (3)
60 Izumi (3)

495 (14)

or, with Rygarn

125 Ebon Armor (4)
110 Tomoe (1)
100 Kozuke Samurai (3)
90 Rygarn (1)
60 Izumi (3)
10 Isamu
495 (12)

But my original army

125 Ebon Armor (4)
100 Krav (3)
100 Kozuke Samurai (3)
60 Izumi (3)
60 Morgan's Riflemen
(Public Playtest) (3)
50
Tarn (4)
495 (20)

has 20 (versus 14 and 12 in the two armies above, respectively) figures in it, which may matter more than defense and/or OM efficiency. Also, we're playing Heat of Battle (4-player) on Taeblewalker's Savage Land map.

I'm planning on taking over the Castle area.

This seems like a good spot to hide units until needed, and keep all the action close, to make the best use of the Ebon Armor.
