Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?
Trying to find a readable version of the flowchart DS posted above I found a game buyers guide flowchart. Looks pretty cool? How would you guys rate it's correctness of end choices?

It looks like the chart is put out by a game store, and I could definitely see some utility in having it for their employees, particularly if some of them are less well-informed about current games. I think it's a neat idea, and it includes some games I'd recommend, although there are lots of good games not mentioned on the chart. It could be a good starting point, but I don't think it should replace researching and reading reviews of games you're interested in (or just impulse-buying everything you see on Kickstarter) |

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?
It's been awhile, but I finally pulled Pathfinder Adventure Card Game off the shelf for a game this morning. I had hit it hard early on after getting it, but too many other things had needed playing before getting back to this. I forgot how fun it was.
I have been running 2 sets of 3 Heroes. Kyra, Seoni and Valeros Amiri, Lini and Seelah I have gotten them all through the Perils of the Lost Coast Adventure. I'd also gotten them all through Attack on Sandpoint and Local Heroes scenarios for Burnt Offerings Adventure. So this morning I took Kyra, Seoni and Valeros into the Trouble at Sandpoint scenario for Burnt Offerings. We won, but man was it close. Seoni only had 1 card in her deck left 4 of 5 locations were closed and a card or 2 into the final location of Shrine to Lamashtu. With 2 cards in the Blessings deck, Kyra flipped one over and headed in. She took care of a Wrathful Sinspawn and used a blessing to have another encounter. She was able to get the Villain, Erylium, as she had fled to this location after an encounter with Valeros much earlier. So before this encounter, Kyra had to choose another character at that location to encounter a Wrathful Sinspawn, so she had Valeros take care of it. The Kyra dealt with Erylium with her Ice Spear. Valeros helped with a 3 from his d4 roll for helping combat check at same location, but then Kyra rolled a 1 on her strength melee die, but had a +2 with that, so now we had 3+1+2 = 6 and needing a 14 to defeat Erylium. Fortunately, she had also played a blessing to add one d6 (strength die) and luckily rolled a 6 for a total of 12 now. Finally, she rolled for her Ice Spear which is a d8+1. She rolled a 1, so the 1+1 +12 = 14 and just enough to defeat Erylium. Man that was close, but it was just enough to win the game as all other locations were closed. There was only 1 card left in the Blessings deck, and it was Valeros' turn next. Had Kyra not defeated the villain, it would have gotten shuffled back in the location deck and Valeros would have been very lucky to draw it on the first try since he didn't have any blessings or allies in his hand to do another encounter after the first one. So if he didn't get it on the first card, the heroes would have lost and would have to try it again. More importantly, none of the heroes died. Seoni was super close and it was careful choices that made sure that she had enough in her deck to have one left when resetting near the end of the game. Kyra was helpful in healing a few times, and sharing cards was also huge this game, more so than any other I'd played before. Very fun. Yesterday I'd playtested another chapter for Mice and Mystics. That was a blast too. I'd recommend 1776 instead of 1812. Also, where is Axis and Allies??? 1941 is a great introduction to medium level wargaming. Where's Alien Frontiers? It looks interesting, but looks more like someone's personal list broken down. |

Looks pretty good to me, actually. Sure, those may not be the exact questions you should ask, but there is a ton of variety there, and all solid games.
Mega, I know you like 1776, but good luck getting history buffs to play that over 1812 for a 19th century game. Arena of the Valkyire - Help create Heroscape's next Master Set! Trade List C3V Brainstorm never not funny Pepperony - 14/09/13 |
