This weekend there's a program for high-schoolers happening at the college I teach at. There are two strands: math and songwriting. I'm teaching the math one; these guys are doing the songwriting one. They played this song tonight at an informal gig. I was predisposed to like it from the title "(I used to wear) the head of a lion", but it was the best song of the set anyway. Here's a youtube version. I really like it.

Huh. Glad I looked in on this thread, which I do only sometimes. That guy's one interesting banjo player. His technique is unorthodox, but clearly it works for him. I like the song.

I suppose I'll play. My wife gave me the White Stripes' Under Great White Northern Lights cd, the soundtrack to a documentary I have yet to see. I really enjoyed the cd while driving around today. One of the songs was a cover of Dolly Parton's Jolene; I present the video for those of you who like to see some garage rock in action:
