However, when an elementalist summons an elemental, he binds them to his will as part of the summoning spell. Otherwise, the elemental would simply leave or otherwise not obey commands once summoned to this plane from their own. They are somewhat intelligent creatures with a will of their own when on their own plane of existence. So the fact that they are listed as one generals unit has very little to do with anything. They can be summoned and controlled by anyone or thing powerful enough to do so

That makes more sense than my assumption that they betray their Generals by siding with Kurrok

So the next question is... Are the Elementals sentient in Valhalla?

I could easily see Kurrock in Aquilla, because I view that general as the one of the elements and special conditions

I feel like giving all the generals a ninja while cool isn't very thematic. Really all but Isamu should've been Einar.

Among the mis-factioned I might include Sgt. Drake, the Airborne Elite, the 4th Mass, and Samuel Brown.

I mean, who believes that every American military unit, by definition, must be on the side of good?

The Romans.... now THOSE guys should have been given to Jandar! Best thing to ever happen to the world.


EDIT: Hmm, just remembered that the Cowboys are also American units. So not all follow Jandar.... Still, if the game had been designed by an English team, it would be fun to see to which generals the upstanding 10th Reg, the rebellious and treasonous 4th Mass, and those wild uncivilized and thankless MacDirks and their ignoble Alastair would be assigned.

It has always bugged me that the 4th and Sam weren't in Einar, they're just so historically themed, it doesn't make sense to put them anywhere else! As for Drake, he is definitely Jandar, whilst from 'history' he is pretty much the closest thing the game has to a 'protagonist', for lack of a better word. With regards to Dund, had she been there from the beginning, I think Aquilla would have had him, he is a predator after all!

Einar's theme is not historicals, it's discipline. That's mostly why the 4th don't fit.

This, I've never liked the whole Vydar is Sci-fi, Eniar is the oldies station thing.

To me the generals represent ideologies more than anything.

Jandar- Proactive Good guy types
Ullar- Good guys, but I see them as less rough and tumble than Jandar's, less inclined to actively pick a fight.
Eniar- Imperial, he likes disciplined troops but he'll use others to get what he wants.
Vydar- Tricky anything goes ends justify the means guy

Yet the 4th Mass have "Wait then Fire", just like the 10th Reg and the Ashigaru Harqs (both Einar). Hard to imagine a more disciplined skill than that....

That is a good point. Should have had a 'shoot and run' or 'take cover' power since the Americans didn't play by the British rules of War.

And what about the gladiators. How could you put Spartacus in the same army as the Romans?!? They kind of didn't get along, like at all.

My opinion is that since the gladiators are all rebellious they should be placed in Aquilla. Of course she wasn't around when they came out, but still Einar was a bad choice for those guys imo.

Also slightly off topic. Why is Spartacus, an actually person, in the game? I thought Heroscape borrowed from famous people but never actually put them in. Just wondering.

It is worth noting that putting them together makes a pretty bad army (or at least a LOT of wasted synergy). Even if you have a high enough point total to get a decent part of the gladiators and romans, they still work better separately. It seems to me that the gladiators have been "recaptured" for Einar and are fighting for their freedom on Earth while in Valhalla. The gladiators were slaves and just because you hate somebody doesn't mean you won't fight beside them when you need to.
