I build the map physically first & then guesstimate what sets it used. Then I recreate the map in VirtualScape & set the available materials to what I thought it would be & look for any pieces with their quantity in red & see if I have unused ones to replace or swap tiles around to make it work within the sets. Of course if it doesn't work with the sets you first selected add more sets or reset the available materials & try other combinations of sets.

The most important thing is to know how many sets you used and to try to use sets efficiently at least.
But, yeah, big maps can make some great scenario maps. C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

I don't want to limit people's creativity, and if you want to build big maps like Savage lands I don't think anyone will stop you. But I really do appreciate that MOST maps we do are playable by those of us with at most 2 of any single expansion. I was really happy when I found out that some maps that I thought were unbuildable for myself (like City Streets with 3 Marvel sets) could actually be pulled off with less with just a few minor tweaks (though it still says 3 are needed in the Book). |
