The New York City Gang Of Four

Had a five game day with Kolakoski on his Secret Island Base! I lost three times against his Supers on his own map, with his scenario that he'll be taking down for his long December vacation in Jamaica (see his thread Heroscape Traveller.) He destroyed me in a complex game three times out of four, and my team lost, even though it had been predicted to win in his poll.

Then we played two games of Classic on the same board and I destroyed him, mostly with die rolling, twice. Since he's described these first Supers games a bit on his thread, here's a bit about my Classic victories:

The Rechts Revenge!

I rolled as many Recht Lethal Stings (triple skulls) this day as I've gotten in my entire 12 year Heroscape career! In the first game, I took out two of his Ninjas of the North Wind with two Sting rolls, before they could try to escape. On the next turn it happened again, and this time I disintegrated Sgt. Drake II, who had only 1 wound on him! In the second game I did yet another Sting, and took out a completely unwounded Hero (Raelin?) K. pointed out that among other lucky rolls I got during these games, a Recht had once rolled 3 skulls out of 4, when it was on height, and so the triple did not count. Its a good thing we were using his dice!

Congratulations to K. on the very first time providing all of the figures and cards for a game day with his own collection. We also ate some week early turkey that his wife was preparing for a pre-Thanksgiving feast, being held for his local community group the next day! Yum.

Pool results to the contrary, the Agents won 3 out of 4 (the last with Silver Banshee, Scarlet Spider, Boomerang, and Iron Monger in place of the opponent's Doom Patrol), chas admittedly not knowing the cards that well. [Me neither.]

Mandarin was tossed into space by Iron Man's Repulsor Beam in all the losses. The one game The Doom Patrol/Mandarin's Hand won (by me) I screened him with Mandarin.

Some notes: The Hand Ninjas and S.H.I.E.L.D Agents weren't real factors. Too weak and/or easily tossed into space ("tossed"). Flyers are very (too?) strong. While Diablo could be tossed by Repulsor Beam easily, his Sleep Potion 14 was instant death to even flyers, if they were on sky spaces. Iron Man may be too strong for this scenario. He's certainly a counter to Mandarin.

I'm glad we got a chance to play test this scenario (thanks to chas). As a result, I created a new map/scenario, that eliminates the possibility of tossing units into space, called Raid on the New Hindenburg!

Tinkered quite a bit with the teams in light of the new map.

The Agents seemed too advantaged on this map, being guaranteed a high spot for their 9 point Special Attack. Any thematic suggestions are welcome, but I'm bound by the limitations of my collection.

Unfortunately I had to cancel the game on Sat. Dec. 3. We will be running a special "Introduction to Heroscape Day" for new players on Sat. Jan. 7.

(Edit) I'm happy to say we have four of six player slots filled so far!

We're now full up for the event next Saturday, and will even have a very special guest or two dropping by! It should be an interesting day, with both newbies and experts in the house!

How many Thalenk Tundra maps will you be building? I hope that this event doesn't turn into a cancelation because of Winter Storm Helena that is fast approaching and who's expected arrival is Sat. Jan. 7th Bwaahaaaa

Actually, we have no significant storm in any weather forecast I've seen up here.

Yup, everyone made it out to chas' place, including surprise guest Jeff Van Ness himself, who played an epic six-player game of 'Scape with the newbies and then stuck around afterwards to teach him and Craig Van Ness' new game, Shifting Realms, which should show up on Kickstarter very soon. All in all, a very memorable day of gaming.
