This feels like a silly question, but I can´t come to a conclusion:

If an ability is activated "before" or "after moving" and a figure is moved by an ability that lets you "move a figure" (like Gilbert), is the ability of the moved figure activated?

For example:

Figure A - "Before moving, roll the 20-sided die for X"
Figure B - "Instead of taking a turn with Figure B, you may move Figure A"

Would a marker on Figure B let a player activate the "Before moving" ability on Figure A?

Technically, the stipulations "before moving" and "after moving" could be bound to the action of moving.
Also technically, it seems like "before moving" or "after moving and before attacking" are not really attached to the action of moving, but rather separate times and a special power can take place:
After revealing an Order marker/before taking a turn
Before moving
When moving
After moving and before attacking
When attacking
After attacking
After taking a turn


Any ideas?

You’re correct, those refer to phases of the turn, and would not proc on out-of-turn movement. Your list is nearly complete, a few I’d add:

Before revealing an Order Marker (this is first on the list)
At the beginning of a turn (this is before before moving, not sure I’ve seen it before but it would theoretically slot here)
At the end of a turn (this is after after attacking)

That is interesting I've never seen at the beginning of a turn before either. I guess the designers assumed that it is never different from before moving?

Yep, this is one of the main problems with Heroscape language - "move" refers to several different things, between a move phase of your figure's activation, move actions it can take both within that phase and out of it, and other abilities that move figures against thei will.

This is one of those muddy areas we tackled head on in C3G 2.0 and created distinct terms for so we could sort these things out. Seems crazy to ask the end user to use an ability to move their figure but not use a "before moving" ability they have when they do.

It's also something that the C3V has been discplined with. If you look through its body of work, you will see internal consistency with timing (and other technical matters).

The game was conceived and developed as a family game, for parents to get to play with their kids. The original designers simply did not perpare it for this type of close examination.

Yeah, I think at a certain point there's a big choice to make between keeping it in the zone of light family game (nothing wrong with that) or choosing to go deeper down the rabbit hole and making sure you have the right structural support for the journey.

Of course. For myself, I would not have had it any other way. The C3V and the C3G are not as similar as they appear on the surface. They serve different ends, wth different tools, and pursue them with different strategies.
