Fail, I would see him as closer to the 400 point cost. The weakness of Growing Apathy makes placing OMs on him too risky after Round 5, which further makes his Reconstitution special power less useful.

- USAGE TEST/ Consider whether or not all of the powers on this card were used or at least usable.
Pass, although I never used Reconstitution because Dr. Manhattan was always the last figure standing. With a Life and Defense of 7 he was the hardest to knockout and therefore lasted the longest. Also the ability to alter his size did nothing to alter the games I playtested and would otherwise only counter a few characters (percentage wise). There is no benefit to being Small, Medium and I think even Large. Therefore he would always be either Tiny or Huge.

- STRATEGY TEST/ Consider whether or not the design offers any real strategy or interesting tactics to the overall game.
Pass, definitely. In some games the placement of OMs can be crucial and knowledge of the opponents OMs and the flexibility to move yours at the beginning of ANY of your turns is huge.


Overall it just did not feel like Dr. Manhattan from either the movie or the graphic novels. By giving him 7s in all stats makes it seem like he rushes into battle and can duke it out with other strong guys, but in truth I don’t think he ever strikes anyone in the movie/comic. The powers I thought suited him the best was Growing Apathy and Molecular Teleportation.

Give a brief overview. I usually like to start testing new characters with a one-on-one battle and Superman seemed the closest in point value. Because Dr. Manhattan was alone on this battle it prevented him from using most of his special powers. Even though Superman has a lower cost I do not think this was a significant loss for Dr. Manhattan.

Give a brief overview. There were a couple of assumptions I made during this battle that might need to be addressed. First is that Scarlet Witch’s curse did NOT negate Dr. Manhattan’s Growing Apathy as it states to roll the die BEFORE revealing an OM. I took this to mean that it was not the start of his turn yet and therefore the curse should not yet be activated. Second assumption I made is that the X OM is not “lower” than any other OM and therefore it can not be removed in place of a numbered OM. Although Dr. Manhattan did use Infinite Being often, it just did not seem to make a large impact on the game. His weakness of Growing Apathy really started kicking in by round 5 and it completely shut him down.

Nimrod attacks She-hulk but does no damage. He then reveals the X-marker and attacks again and denies She-hulk the power of Hard Body. This second attacks ony does 1 wound.
Superboy advances.

Growing Apathy rolls a 16-1=15. Dr. Manhattan attacks Superboy from high ground. Using Kryptonian DNA Superboy is able to block all damage.

Nimrod rolls a 19 for his curse and then attacks She-hulk from high ground. She-hulk defends but Nimrod reveals his X OM and attacks again this time negating Hard Body. This attack does 4 wounds to her and knocks her back 2 spaces.

She-hulk advances to her original spot and attacks Nimrod from low ground. She rolls 4 skulls and Nimrod rolls 4 shields and 4 skulls.
Omega Red attacks the Hulk twice. He does a total of 1 wound and knocks back the Hulk 1 space.

Juggernaut advances.
Lobo uses Hook, Line and Massacre to pull Doctor Doom to an adjacent space and then attack him from high ground. Doctor Doom takes 2 wounds.
Turn 3
Doctor Doom attacks Lobo but does no damage. He then rolls a 9 for Mystic Power Drain.
Malice then places a Bubble Marker on Doctor Doom. She then uses Force Field Daggers and attacks Doctor Doom and removes a Force Bubble to add 2 automatic skulls. This places another 3 wounds on Doctor Doom.

Malice rolls a single die for Bubble Suffocation for Doctor Doom but no damage. She then tries to place a bubble on Juggernaut but fails. Then she attacks Doctor Doom with Force Field Daggers and adds 2 extra skulls by removing her second Bubble Marker. This destroys Doctor Doom, but as it turns out that was just a decoy and the Green Doombot is replaced with Doctor Doom.
Juggernaut moves to get behind the enemies.

Malice finally gets Bubble Suffocation to give a wound to Juggernaut. She then attacks him but does no damage.
Juggernaut does Running Charge and attacks Malice and Dr. Manhattan. Dr. Manhattan takes a wound.
Turn 3
Malice gives another Bubble Suffocation wound to Juggernaut. She then turns and attacks Doctor Doom with a normal attack and does no damage.
Juggernaut does Running Charge again and deals another 2 wounds to Dr. Manhattan.

Looks a lot worse here than he did in my tests. I could see him dropping a bit, but nearly a hundred points... he's a gamble, but the amount of damage he can do in those first few rounds is huge. Tentatively concerned but I'll wait for further tests.

This did seem to be the main problem. Kind of a disappointing reaction altogether, though, in terms of how he didn't think he played like Doctor Manhattan should. We'll have to see if that's a common reaction or not.

I think one difficult/interesting thing is that the design represents Doctor Manhattan in a much longer view than the usual match is pictured as taking. If you imagine the first few rounds as Vietnam-Era Manhattan, where he's occasionally questioning things but generally just killing everybody, and the later rounds as the actual Watchmen story where he very rarely makes a move, he feels a lot more organic, I think.
