A Player/User/Whatever-they-were-called uses the Iron Giant as an avatar, it's not actually the Iron Giant or a NPC designed to act like him or what have you (same goes for like 90% of the licensed characters that pop up). Honestly, I felt they still stayed reasonably true to the character though.

@ollie the book (and I'm assuming the movie) are popcorn levels of fun for sure. But I'm all in on light fun so long as it feels fresh and keeps my attention, which the book did.

It turns out that I am a member of Generation X. I wonder if, in my head, Generation X is young because I remember discovering the term when I was young, and the age of the "Generation" has not progressed with the age of the actual people in it, as the years have passed.

I think an Xennial is someone born in the late 70s or early 80s, right? If so, that's me too.

And it seems like we're all agreeing on Ready Player One, the book: good light fun. I guess I was disagreeing with comments I've seen elsewhere declaring it a deep important work of SF and got the sense that some folks here shared that opinion.
