The Book of 20th Maine Volunteers
The Book of 20th Maine Volunteers The figures used for this unit are Scenearama figures from the American Civil War Scene Setters set.C3V Wave 6 (Wave 19) - Crevcor's Commission - Warriors of Elswind Forest PDF Download Character Bio: "This is the left of the Union line. You are to hold this ground at all costs!" This was the last order given to the 20th Maine Volunteer Regiment on the day of July 2nd, 1863. Little Round Top was saved, and Gettysburg won. But victory comes at great cost, for these men were not given the freedom of death. These men shall fight a different war, defending a different flank, and their opponents shall realize all too late that the 20th Maine does not fall easily.
Spoiler Alert!

They also benefit from Sir Gilbert's Jandar's Dispatch.

Re: The Book of 20th Maine Volunteers
Just asking for a clarification:
If there is only one unrevealed Order Marker on any 20th Maine Volunteers army card you control... That does mean one unrevealed OM on ALL 20MV cards collectively, right? Alternate interpretation: That 20MV card right there has only one unrevealed OM (the X) - all my other markers are on my other 20MV card - so I get the +2 defense through the whole round. ~Z |

Re: The Book of 20th Maine Volunteers
The wording on the second ability sounds sloppy to me. Why not stick to the Microcorp Sighting wording while adding "adjacent figure"?
Jugger It's like football with swords or LARPing without the geeky stuff. In other words, it's awesomely perfect! |

Re: The Book of 20th Maine Volunteers
It's really bugging me that, as written, HOLD GROUND works if you have any one copy of the card with a single unrevealed marker on that card, regardless of what's on the other clones of the card. The intent was to count the markers on all associated cards, but in this context (especially with the noun in the singular), the "any" that was used actually communicates the opposite of "all" ... it is short for "any one."
Here's one way to align the text with the design intent: HOLD GROUND"Among" is a good tool for this job, but I expect that some may dislike it; so here's another option for consideration: HOLD GROUNDI also expect that some will complain about the parentheses, but this is a situation where they are appropriate, and Hasbro already did it on Tul-Bak-Ra (three times, in fact). If you really want to follow the "Dünd standard" (but please don't!), it might go something like this: HOLD GROUNDWhatever wording you go with, the reference to the card title should be corrected in the card image and PDF (the OP is already correct). Heroscape convention allows toggling between singular and plural when talking about figures, but when referring to the army card itself the title should be exact. (There is no such army card as 20th Maine Volunteer.) Good traders: tdemirji, AbsintheAddict, Blubberguy22, Toa Matoro, SuperSamyon, Bl1ndsn1per, Ericth74,

Re: The Book of 20th Maine Volunteers
If you want to refute me, please do (I have no problem being corrected). But a simple "no it doesn't" is of no value in the dialog without some explanation or point behind it. We can go "no it doesn't" / "yes it does" all day long and accomplish nothing.
The wording is awkward at best and miscommunicates the opposite of its intent at worst. I've offered for consideration three constructive alternatives to support the design intent. Somebody else may have a better recast than my attempts, and I welcome that. Regardless, why can't we address issues like these constructively? Re: The Book of 20th Maine Volunteers
I'd have to say, As someone who often has a few friends over to play scape every blue moon or so, it is nice to clear up any confusion. I admit when I first read the card I thought it was funny wording that would allow some sketchy play with multiple cards, but then I recalled how heroscape is played and knew that was not the designers intent.
That said I have thousands of figures and hundreds of army cards, I'm a scape Expert at this point (as is everyone else on this site). I would rather not have to explain to my friends" "I know it says that, but that is not the way we play". |
