New Format - Victory Determined by Figures Destroyed
Well met! Does this make sense? Victory Point Calculation. Create a fraction, the numerator is the larger team's number of figures, and the denominator is the smaller team's number of figures. That number is the number of victory points awarded for destroying each figure in the smaller team's army, while each figure in the larger team's army is worth 1 Victory Point. For example, A 20 figure team facing a 16 figure team would receive 20/16 of a point per figure destroyed, while the 16 figure team would receive 1 point per figure destroyed. Victory Conditions. After ten Rounds, the team that scored the most points wins. In case of a tie, the team possessing the most Brandar's Chests wins. If both teams possess the same number of Brandar's Chests, the game is considered drawn. |

Re: New Format - Victory Determined by Figures Destroyed
My first two thoughts are 1) that this assumes that figures are all worth the same (a bad assumption) and 2) that this assumes that the game will often not be over after 10 rounds (not true of my games, maybe true of yours though).

Well met! Quote:
By the end of 10 turns, the handwriting is usually on the wall. We like to get two games played in a session. |

Re: New Format - Victory Determined by Figures Destroyed
This format doesn't make much sense to me. Figure count is a pretty meaningless number when comparing army strength.
Army 1: Nilfheim Greenscales Warriors x2 Raelin Figures: 8 Army 2: Roman Legionnaires x4 Figures: 16 Fraction: 16/8 = 2 Obviously this game would be over much quicker than 10 rounds. But pretending it doesn't, the Army 1 player gets 1 point per Roman Legionnaire killed because their army is smaller...meanwhile the Army 2 player spends the entire game trying to catch and kill Nilfheim. Just when Round 10 ends, they manage to bring down the beast and get 2 whole points for their trouble. So the Army 1 player wins because they've probably killed at least 2 Romans by round 10. It's nonsensical. Figure count really means nothing in Heroscape. If anything, it makes more sense to do a point ratio. Army 1: Nilfheim Greenscales x2 Raelin Points: 385 Army 2: Roman Legionnaires x4 Points: 200 Fraction: 385/200 = 1.9 simplified to 2 for the example Now, the Roman Legionnaire army is obviously at the disadvantage because Heroscape armies are based on points, not figures. And so now, using partial card scoring, if they manage to kill a Greenscale, that kill is worth 20*2 = 40 points, instead of the normal 20 it would be, but each Roman that Nilf kills is still only 12.5 points. And killing Nilfheim alone would automatically win the Romans the game since that kill would be well over 300 points worth, something that the Nilf army would not be able to rack up at a normal multiplier killing Romans. So a 1000 point army facing a 500 point army has a massive advantage on the battlefield, but the 500 point army only has to kill 250 points worth before being overrun to win the game (since the ratio is still 2, giving them 2*250=500 victory points worth, more than the 1000 point army could kill of 1*500=500). The problem with this is that those games might not last 10 rounds anyway because those armies are so imbalanced. And any variance (like one big hit on a high value figure like Nilfheim for the larger army) could totally swing the game out of reach immediately for the big army. Hope this helps. |
