Balantai Battlescape: Star Wars

Not to take anything away from what we do in the Heroes of StarWars Scape (HoSS) thread, but I've been thinking about a new play system for Star Wars Scape. It will be completely independent from the community thread. I'd like to create a system that uses the Heroscape ruleset, but really focuses on the theme of Star Wars. The great thing about the HoSS thread is it's compatibility with Vahallascape. If you wanted, you could mix and match to your hearts desire. This ruleset, won't take that liberty.

Please note: This is not a community project, but any input is greatly appreciated.

Force Symbol and Force Points:
Unique Heroes with the Force Symbol will be allocated a number of Force Points. This will be shown as a symbol with a number located in the middle of the symbol. Force Points will be tracked using markers on the card. These Force Points will be spent to use Force Powers listed on that figure's card. Force Points will regenerate at the rate of 1 Force Point at the end of every round.
This is not my creative design. Necroblade uses a similar system for his customs.

Lightsaber Forms:
Force Users will have a predetermined number of Lightsaber Forms. Lightsaber Forms will give bonuses to the Force User. Each Lightsaber Form will have two variances: Basic and Master. Only one form may be used at a time and the person controlling the Force User will determine what Lightsaber Form the figure will use at the beginning of round.

Shii-Cho Basic Form
When defending against a normal attack from an adjacent figure that has the Force Symbol, you may reroll 1 defense die. You may only reroll once for each attack.

Shii-Cho Master Form
When defending against a normal attack from an adjacent figure that has the Force Symbol, you may reroll up to 2 defense dice. You may only reroll once for each attack.

Makashi (Contention Form)

Makashi Basic Form
When defending against a normal attack from an adjacent figure that has the Force Symbol, if you roll any excess shields, you may roll 1 unblockable attack die on the attacking figure.

Makashi Master Form
When defending against a normal attack from an adjacent figure that has the Force Symbol, you may roll 2 additional defense dice. If you roll any excess shields, you may roll 1 unblockable attack die on the attacking figure.

Soresu (Resiliance Form)

Soresu Basic Form
When defending against a normal attack from an non-adjacent figure with the Blaster icon, you do not need to roll 1 less defense die due to the Blaster icon and you may add 1 automatic shield to whatever is rolled.

Soresu Master Form
When rolling defense dice against a normal attack, you do not need to roll 1 less defense die due to the Blaster icon, you may add 1 automatic shield to whatever is rolled and you may never recieve more than 1 wound from a normal attack.

Ataru (Agression Form)

Defending figures roll 1 less defense die when defending against a normal attack by this figure.

Ataru Master Form
Defending figures roll 2 less defense dice when defending against a normal attack by this figure.

Shien / Djem So (Perseverance Form)

You may roll 1 additional defense die when defending against a normal attack. If this figure is attacked by a non-adjacent figure with the Blaster symbol, if you roll any excess shields, place 1 wound marker on the attacking figure's card.

Shien / Djem So Master Form
You may roll 1 additional attack die when attacking and you may roll 2 additonal defense dice when defending. If this figure is attacked by a non-adjacent figure with the Blaster symbol, if you roll any excess shields, place 1 wound marker on the attacking figure's card.

Niman (Moderation Form)

Subtract 1 from this figure's attack value. When this figure attacks, he may attack 1 additional time.

Niman Master Form
Subtract 1 from this figure's attack value. When this figure attacks, he may attack 1 additional time. When using any Force Power that requires the roll of the 20-sided die, you may add 3 to your roll.

Juyo / Vaapad (Ferocity Form)

Juyo / Vaapad Basic Form
You may roll 1 additional attack die for each wound marker on the defending figure's army card up to a maximum of 3 additional attack dice. You must roll 1 fewer defense die for each wound marker on this card up a maximum of 3 fewer defense dice.

Juyo / Vaapad Master From
You may roll 1 additional attack die for each wound marker on the defending figure's army card up to 3 additional attack dice.

Force Powers:
Force Powers will not be written out on the cards. Simply the name of the Force Power and the Force Point Cost will appear. You will need to reference the Force Powers in this list to understand what the Special Powers do.

FP: "x" (Represents the number of Force Points needed to use this ability)

FORCE AGILITY FP: 2
Before rolling defense dice, you may choose to take no damage from the attack and immediately move up to 3 spaces. You do not take any leaving engagement attacks when moving due to Force Agility.

FORCE BATTLE MEDITATION FP: 3
Instead of moving and attacking, may place the Force Battle Meditation Marker on this card. While the Force Battle Meditation Marker on this card all friendly figures may roll 1 additional attack die and 1 additional defense die. You may not take a turn with this figure unless you reveal an Order Marker on this card. Before taking a turn with this figure, remove the Force Battle Meditation Marker from this card.

FORCE BLAST FP: 3
Instead of attacking, choose a figure within 4 clear sight spaces of this figure. All figures within 2 clear sight spaces of the chosen figure and within clear sight of this figure are also affected by Force Blast. Roll the 20-sided die once for each figure. Subtract 10 from the roll if that figure has the Force Symbol. If you roll a 6 or higher, move the chosen figure up to 4 spaces. The chosen figure must end it's movement on a space that is farther from you than it's original space. If you roll an 11 or higher, place 1 wound marker on the chosen figure's army card.

FORCE CHOKE FP: 2
Instead of attacking, choose a figure an roll the 20-sided die. Subtract 10 from your roll if the chosen figure has the Force Symbol.

• If you roll a 1 - 5, nothing happens
• If you roll a 6 - 10, place 1 wound marker on the chosen figure's card.
• If you roll an 11 - 19, place 1 wound marker on the chosen figure's card and remove all Order Markers from that figure's card.
• If you roll a 20 or higher, destroy the chosen figure.

FORCE FEAR FP: 3
Instead of attacking, choose a figure within 2 clear sight spaces and roll the 20-sided die. Subtract 10 from the roll if the chosen figure has the Force Symbol. If you roll a 6 or higher, remove all Order Markers from the chosen figure's army card.

FORCE GHOST FP: 1
If this figure receives enough wounds to be destroyed, you may immediately use Force Ghost. Place this figure on any figure's card that has the Force Symbol. That figure may add 1 to his defense for the remainder of the game.

FORCE HEALING FP: 1, 2 or 3
Instead of attacking, if you are unengaged, you may remove a number of wound markers from this card or an adjacent figure's card equal to the number of Force Points spent. Force Healing may not be used on Droids.

FORCE ILLUSION FP: 2
At the beginning of your turn, you may use Force Illusion. For the remainder of the round, all friendly figures within 8 clear sight space of you may roll 1 additional defense die when defending against an attack from a figure without the Force Symbol.

FORCE LEAP FP: 1
Instead of a normal move, you may Force Leap. Force Leap has a move of 3. When counting spaces for Force Leap movement, ignore elevations. You may Force Leap over water without stopping, Force Leap over figures without becoming engaged, and Force Leap over obstacles such as ruins. You may not Force Leap more than 25 levels up or down in a single Force Leap. If you are engaged when you start to Force Leap, you will take any leaving engagement attacks.

FORCE LEVITATE FP: 2
Instead of moving and attacking with this figure, choose a friendly unengaged figure within 6 clear sight spaces of this figure. You may move the chosen figure up to 3 spaces. Figures moved by Force Levitate may ignore elevation changes, ignore terrain effects and pass over figures without becoming engaged.

FORCE LIGHTNING FP: 3
Instead of attacking, choose a figure an roll the 20-sided die. Subtract 7 from your roll if the chosen figure has the Force Symbol.

• If you roll a 1 - 5, nothing happens
• If you roll a 6 - 10, place 2 wound markers on the chosen figure's card.
• If you roll an 11 - 15, place 3 wound markers on the chosen figure's card.
• If you roll a 16 or higher, place 4 wound markers on the chosen figure's card.

FORCE LIGHTSABER THROW FP: 1
Before attacking, you may choose to add 4 to your range and you may not use any Lightsaber Forms for the rest of the turn.

FORCE PERSUASION FP: 3
Instead of attacking, choose a figure within 2 clear sight spaces and roll the 20-sided die. Subtract 10 from the roll if the chosen figure has the Force Symbol. If you roll a 6 or higher, remove all Order Markers from the chosen figure's army card. You may not attack the chosen figure with this figure for the remainder of the round.

FORCE PRECOGNITION FP: 1
At the beginning of the round, after Order Markers have been place, you may choose to have an opponent show you their X Order Marker.

FORCE PUSH FP: 1
After moving and before attacking, choose a figure within 5 clear sight spaces and roll the 20-sided die. Subtract 7 from your roll if the chosen figure has the Force Symbol. If you roll a 6 or higher, move the chosen figure up to 3 spaces. The chosen figure must end it's movement on a space that is farther from you than it's original space. If you roll an 11 or higher, place 1 wound marker on the chosen figure's army card.

FORCE RAGE FP: 1
At the beginning of the round, after Order Markers have been placed, you may place the Force Rage Marker and 1 Wound Marker on this card. While the Force Rage Marker is on this card, you may add 1 to the attack value of this card.

FORCE SHIELD FP: 2
At the beginning of the round, after Order Markers have been placed, you may place the Force Shield Marker on this card. While the Force Shield Marker is on this card, attacking figures must subtract 1 skull from their roll. At the end of the round, remove the Force Shield Marker from this card.

FORCE SPEED FP: 1
Before moving, add 6 to your movement value for this turn. You do not take leaving engagement strikes this turn.

FORCE TELEPATHY FP: 2
After revealing an Order Marker on this card, but before taking a turn with this figure, you may first take a turn with any Unique Hero you control.

Blaster Symbol:
When a figure with a Blaster Symbol on their card attacks a non-adjacent figure with a normal attack, the defending figure must roll 1 less defense die.

If Darth Maul is attacked by an adjacent normal attack and at least one skull is rolled, you may roll the 20 sided die. If you roll 16 or higher, Darth Maul receives no wounds and the attacking figure recieves 1 wound.

Replace "regular" with "normal" (I have those brain farts too ). "you may roll" isn't normally included in the counter strike wording, usually it's just "roll". It still works & if you want to leave it I don't really have an issue with it.

This is a great ability, I am just not sure if it should be a 20d ability especially if you are giving up your move & attack. But then again it does make an allowance for opponents that have the force power.

I first laid out my Booster Gold dot points the same way but was advised that the official use is to put the "If you roll a" at the start of each line.

Also for the 12 or higher option what if they don't have an unrevealed Order Marker? the word "must " makes it a bit awkward. Maybe: "• If you roll a 12 or higher, the chosen figure receives 2 wounds and you may remove one unrevealed Order Marker from that figures Army Card."

The only problem I see with these is the Expert Lightsaber Deflection ablitity. They extra defense is fine my issue is "counterstrike"
If an Ewok shots you with his bow and arrows or sling from 4 hexs away you would not be able to "deflect" his projectile back to hurt him but you could block it.
You would need to clarify what type of range weapon someone is using.

I'm not sure this kind of theme is really necessary. After all, can an elf with a bow really shoot farther than a robot shooting missles? The beauty of Heroscape is its simplicity. I'm afraid of over complicating things by limiting the counterstrike to blasters. Besides, I would have to somehow identify each card that fires a blaster type projectile. As far as theme goes, I can rationalize it as Obi-Wan using the Force to stop the arrow/rocket/bullet/etc and fire it back at the attacking figure.
