Character Bio - From an early age, Roy G. Bivolo dreamed of being a famous artist, preferring to paint while other children played. Unfortunately, Roy was colorblind and his works of art were considered ugly due to the clashing colors. Roy’s father promised his son he would find a cure for his condition, but died before he could do so. On his deathbed Roy’s father gave him a pair of goggles which created beams of solid rainbow-colored light. Embittered by the terrible reception his art received, Roy decided to use his father’s gift to pursue a life in crime.

RAINBOW RAY
Before attacking, you may choose a Unique Hero within 5 clear sight spaces and roll the 20-sided die. If you roll:

• 1-3, choose a figure adjacent to that figure to receive a wound;
• 4-6, choose a glyph that figure is equipped with. Rainbow Raider equips that glyph;
• 7-9, that figure rolls 2 fewer defense dice until the next time you reveal an Order Marker;
• 10-11, that figure cannot move or be moved by any special powers until the next time you reveal an Order Marker;
• 12-14, that figure rolls 2 fewer attack dice until the next time you reveal an Order Marker;
• 15-17, remove an Order Marker at random from that figure's card;
• 18-20, that figure receives a wound.

Rainbow Ray does not affect Androids or figures with the Driven or Insane personalities.

Rainbow Raider has powerful abilities but he's kind of a joke in-universe. A completely random d20 power should be fun and allow it to have powerful effects without it being that strong due to the randomness. I expect him to be fairly swingy.

His rainbow rays can be used offensively like a laser blast, or by bathing a target in a certain color, he can influence their emotion (blue light makes someone sad, for example). It's '60s comic book logic.

If it can be used offensively, we might want to squeeze Sensory Assault in there? Since it's our go-to "light" power. I don't know if he uses it the same way our other light-themed guys do, though.

I'd kind of like to make all of the odds equal by making, like, each one be two numbers and the last six being "roll again." But maybe that's just me being too in love with symmetry. The fact everything is random probably makes him balanced by default, but all of the powers are fairly useful, so he should be fun, if not necessarily very good!

With the results being so random, it's good that it is a free action. Johnny's sensory assault suggestion made me think of blind warrior though, does being blind have an impact on the effect?

Last comment just pertains to the 'next OM reveal' trigger. Keep in mind that when there is an initiative switch, OM3 to OM1 time length can double vs all other times. I think we've tucked a 'or end of round' clause in there before to keep the length of effect consistent, but I'm not sure about having the room to add that multiple times here. Maybe have one sentence clarifying the length of the power effect at the start or end of the power.

Glad to see this guy finally in the process. Always been one of my favorite Rogues. Looks solid.

I'd prefer to avoid Sensory Assault just to keep the card simpler, though he could have it thematically. He has the ability to blind people with his lights (I've been flipping through issues he appeared in, and he used it once against Barry like that), but it's way more common for him to use a specific color to inflict an emotion on them. But he can also break windows with his lights, so who knows how they really work, haha. It's an iffy situation so I'm happy to go with the majority if people prefer adding Sensory Assault on.

Being blind wouldn't have an impact on his main power. Ironically Rainbow Raider himself is completely colorblind, seeing the world in black and white.

Good call on the "end of round" trigger as well. I agree that should be added on there, though I think it'll fit fine in the three clauses it affects.

I like keeping him clean as a one power card, especially given the complexity of that one power.

At first I was going to mention not being happy about all the stuff this guy does as it'll be a nightmare to remember while playing, but honestly, being totally random, I think it's fine. Your opponent can't really play around his abilities anyway, since no one know what he'll do.

My only concern is him not being draftable. But if his cost stays way down, he's a good filler Rogue.

Also I kinda love how this was like the fourth guy in DC to be named Rainbow Raider, they must really like the name.

It's all stuff that's occurring on his turn, so I'm hoping should be fairly simple to play without really anything to remember. I'm definitely intending him as swingy filler.

Sounds like leaving Sensory Assault off is preferred, so I'll stick with the single power.

There was a whole group of 7 "Rainbow Raiders" that took Bivolo's tech after Blacksmith killed him. Maybe Rainbow Raider could be the next Nemesis.
