Are we sure that the promised Native Americans are the North American tribes? They could be talking about Mayans or Aztec warriors (which are also North American, but you know what I mean).

You make some excellent points; I guess it was naïve of me to think they could effectively target the hardcore buffs with this product. They could still target me, though (and I wouldn't even roll defense dice!).

Well, remember that the proposal was not to use the Valhallan generals but to have everyone fight for Generals Grant and Lee.

As for the personalities, nothing says they have to stick to the ones we know today. In fact, nothing says they even have to have personalities and classes at all (Marvel figures don't have generals); you could, as just one example, remove both both class and personality and replace them with a new attribute called Rank, or Division, or both. Nothing in Heroscape requires those attributes to be present for the game to work properly; the new units just wouldn't happen to have any synergies based on those attributes.

But there's no need to even get this extreme; you could just sprinkle each army with a variety of different positive personalities such as Brave, Quick, Careful, Precise, Accurate (not the same as precise), Victorious, Steady, Enduring, Strong ... whatever. With a product like this we would need to think outside the box a little.

Yeah, I was a little surprised by that announcement, too. Tomahawk Special Attack, Peyote Concentration, Medicine Man Healing, Great Spirit Attack Aura — It's hard to think of a thematic special ability that isn't going to make somebody unhappy.

Re: Civil war units for Heroscape

I was not shocked, even if the powers were related to some native american stereotype they are still being brought in as the greatest warriros of all time, leaving them out is more of a slap if you think about it.

That's cool. I worked there as a bellhop in the main hotel...quite an education in and of itself. And to not hijack the thread completely, I'll paste in the photos I sent you.

That's a good point! Although tensions are running high in Mexico with the Aztec decendents. Still, it's a very emotional area. Now, if you want to go back to the Mayans, you may be ok.

Of course, if you did go with a North American tribe, just give them rights to the land so they can build a casino and they'd be all for it!

Maybe so, and while seeing a warband come across a hill would be impressive, I can also see the army of protestors lining up to decry the "stereotypical" treatment of their race. I just can't imagine Hasbro/WotC wanting to take the negative publicity for a wargame.

Re: Civil war units for Heroscape

Seems like a silly thing to get upset about, I'm sure Hasbro won't get in any hot water for representing old school Native American warriors. If we can have samurai, Romans, and revolutionaries, why not something foreign yet close to home?

You wouldn't even need very controversial abilities. Off the top of my head, let's consider this a possibility:

LAKOTA CAVALRY

HUMANS / COMMON SQUAD (3) / WARRIORS / PROUD / LARGE 6

1 LIFE
MOVE 8
RANGE 6
ATTACK 2
DEFENSE 3
110 Points

TRACKING SHOT
If none of the Lakota Cavalry moved more than 4 spaces this turn, add 1 to their attack dice.

PLAINS RIDING
If a member of the Lakota Cavalry's movement is performed entirely on grass tiles, you may increase that figure's move by 2.

***

Credit for designing the Tracking Shot ability goes to NecroBlade, who originally used it for his custom Izumi Cavalry, but I find it suits a group of mounted American Indians just fine.
Perhaps an on-foot unit, be it a warband or a hero, could have an aura or other synergistic ability that finally compliments anyone who falls under the Warrior class.

Re: Civil war units for Heroscape

I love the idea of having a Civil War battle Master Set. The generals (Lee and Grant) are a very creative idea.

Re: Civil war units for Heroscape

As far as the Civil War thing goes, I suppose it's a possibility but I really don't know if it'll fly. I'd be more interested in a broader range of fantastical characters myself, such as the Marvel, but I can't knock originality. You guys have a clever idea on your hands!

It is indeed WWII. The bios and animations on the official site reveal that Sgt. Alexander and his men were rescued from certain death on a battlefield in France, 1945.

Re: Civil war units for Heroscape

This is a complete division from my "Heroscape - Age of Revolution" set. A typical game would be two divisions against two divisions.

When I'm finished, each piece's base will be painted and covered in grass. The figures will remain unpainted. Figures shown are 1 set of Skirmishers, 2 sets of Infantry, 1 set of Artillery, 1 set of Calvary, and 1 General.

I'm not quite ready to upload the rule set, but it will be soon. Let me know if you want to help me tune this in.

Let me guess, figurines from Risk?

That actually seems pretty ineresting to play.

Yes, Risk figures. They work perfect for this scale. Once the bases are painted they look pretty cool as well. I wrote up the rule set last night and have some ideas how to modify for Civil War (some changes to the Artillery, Calvary, and General). I will post once a few others have reviewed the package.

It was a ball to play when we tried it. We had five players (4 were experienced Heroscapers and 1 experienced historical miniature player). We all had a great time. With five, we had 105 units on the table and the play went quick and fun.
