Results:
I drafted the Skrulls as a way to use Gigan’s Cosmic Terror, and thought they might be an expensive investment for a one time unblockable roll, but the Skrulls managed to put 5 wounds on She-Hulk without any help from Desaad, so they would be a fun pairing to try again.

The range on Cosmic Terror is huge, especially when paired with a relatively quick team of Invaders like the Skrulls. Which is great, as it plays into the whole “invasion” angle. Typically Wasp is tough to get to, but not for Gigan.

My placement for Cosmic Terror could have been better. I put him on height, but he still took 4 wounds from Witch and She-Hulk right away. In hindsight, if I had placed him on lower ground, I could have moved him R2T1 so that he could fly back 1 space, and forward 6 spaces to get a 2-Die Buzzsaw on She-Hulk. Although I also realize I should have still rolled 1 die against her, because I started my move adjacent to her, and she was adjacent to Leopardon.

Unfortunately, Wasp blocked Gigan's attack in R2T1, and after destroying Wasp R2T2, Witch’s Uncanny Avenger revived Wasp to get the last use out of Wasp’s OM/Synergy, where Witch finished off Gigan, and She-Hulk finished off Leopardon

Solid win for the Avengers, but Wasp/She-Hulk is always powerful, and that team just has much tighter synergy.

Map: Icy Road
Units:
Gigan, King Kong 1000pts
Godzilla (1000)

Results:
Surprisingly close for how quickly Kong fell and how much Primal Rage screwed me over. Godzilla had Kong down to 1 life at the end of Round 1, with Kong having only inflicted 2 wounds. Couldn’t put any Order Markers on Gigan due to Primal Rage, and I lost initiative. Thought Kong would be destroyed right away, but he managed to block, and then inflict 5 wounds, before giving the rest of the round to Godzilla.

Right off the bat, Gigan takes 6 wounds from Atomic Blast. Godzilla’s life was always higher than Gigan’s, so he could always fly over Godzilla with Buzzsaw, but Godzilla’s movement could not be stopped, but Godzilla didn't need to move anyway.

It’s very possible there would have been a different outcome if I had led with Gigan instead of Kong.

Kong stood up to Godzilla for 4 turns, fought Godzilla for 2 turns, inflicting 7 wounds out of 4 attacks for an average of 1.75 wounds per attack.

Gigan stood up to Godzilla for 4 turns, fought Godzilla for 3 turns, inflicting 9 total wounds, averaging 1 wound per 2-die buzzsaw, and 2 wounds per attack.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY:
Cost and balance seem about right, but could probably use more defense or maybe an Auto-Shield to represent the "Cyber" in Cyber-Bully. He died from 4 figure turns in game 1 (3 player turns) and 4 figure/player turns in game 2.

Would be interesting to test him solo against Big Barda and Mister Miracle. I think Superboy would beat him every time, but Superboy could probably beat Godzilla on his own. Gigan’s not really meant to fight solo though, so he would not be getting his full points worth.

I know he’s designed to pair with Ghidrah, so I’m predicting the two of them will be costed to match a pairing of Godzilla and Anguirus. Will be very cool to see how he plays against Anguirus, as I can see Gigan bullying/inhibiting Anguirus’ movement being a big hinderance on his powers. Does this also mean we might also get a 600pt Tag-Team Godzilla and 400pt Jet Jaguar and 400pt Megalon?

Regarding Megalon, being from subterranean Earth, I don’t really think of Megalon as an “Invader” in the same way C3G’s various aliens tend to represent the class. He’s Seatopia’s God, so he’s kind of along the same lines as Manda or King Caesar. Although Manda and Caesar are more guardians of their respective homes, so Megalon is most similar to Mothra, both being gods who venture into outside territory to enact vengeance on behalf of their people.

I guess Megalon could be seen as “invading” the surface world, but it would be cool if he had a Class other than Invader, and for that Class to be added to Gigan's Cosmic Terror. Would enhance Gigan’s draftability.

GENERAL THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT:
The powers are unique and perfectly capture Showa Gigan. They are such that a Final Wars Gigan will be appropriately completely different, and it’s always cool to see characters defined in their various incarnations. Other than adding some durability and a class to Cosmic Terror for Megalon, he seems about right where he is.

So seems like the main points are:

1- possibly bumping his defense back up to six. Or well technically "add more durability" but bumping his defense by 1 is all I'd really be willing to do on that front. Straight up can't fit an autoshield or anything like that that takes up power text.

Not opposed to bumping his defense, but not sure it's needed. Gigan doesn't quite have a faction yet, so not quite firing on all cylinders is to be expected. Might be something to finalize after he gets some play with Ghidorah?

2- Adding another class to Cosmic Terror for Megalon.

Not really something I want to do?

Like technically Megalon is from Earth, but like deep sea underground Earth. He's still from an alien culture compared to regular Earth peeps. And I don't think we really get anything from requiring Invaders to specifically be from space.

Megalon is usually lumped in with the space invader dudes anyway. I'd rather just do that in C3G than build thing around him, especially since he's lame

IDK, I guess if there was a really honey of class for Megalon that I wanted Gigan to work with anyway I'd be down. But pretty much the only other class I could really think of using for him would be Destroyer. And I don't really want Gigan working with Godzilla.

Re: The Book of Gigan (PPT)

Yea missing out on Invaders make me think Gigan is probably fine. Also think that Invader is fine for someone from under the Earth's surface.

Re: The Book of Gigan (PPT)

Silurians and Sea Devils from Doctor Who are in the same subtype of 'underground/underwater Earth people who are aliens for all extents and purposes' so like...I guess we could do a class there? Don't have a good word for it though.

Re: The Book of Gigan (PPT)

They're Invading the surface so Invaders works for me. Center of the Earth stuff is generally portrayed as fairly alien.

Re: The Book of Gigan (PPT)

Those feel like they'd also be Invaders to me?

Like if we're just inventing a new class for 'terrestrial invaders' just to have a new class I don't really see the point. Especially if there's going to be crossover with the synergies like on here.

I think we'd need a current class that's already around that fits Megalon for there to be any appeal to me.

Re: The Book of Gigan (PPT)

Looking at everything, Gigan looks reasonably balanced to me. Pretty big loss against the Avengers, but they're quite a strong army, and the Godzilla matchup (another very strong army) was extremely close. Both me and SW had pretty close games too with a fairly even W/L ratio.

I'd just make Megalon an Invader, personally.

Re: The Book of Gigan (PPT)

The Godzilla one was really close and that was with Kong screwing up his own team with his OM eater thing, so I think that's a fine showing for Gigan.

I'm going to go ahead and propose a vote to Final Editing here keeping the 5 defense. I'll plan on running some tests with him and Ghidorah to see how he feels with his teammate. But like if peeps want to see something else tested first, feel free to vote nay. Soundwarp won't hate you for it.

Only other open thing is Megalon's class which isn't really a playtesting matter, since even if it isn't Invader it wouldn't be something crazy game changing for Gigan like Champion or something.
