The Crime Syndicate gets some early wounds in on All Might and Ms Marvel. Ms Marvel has Aang go after Ultraman, so Aang immediately enters the avatar state and hits Ultraman with 4 attacks (Water -> Earth -> Fire -> Air) to deal him 4 wounds.

The Crime Syndicate strikes back to deal Aang a couple wounds but Superwoman can’t land any more hits. All Might takes out Superwoman. Owlman deals Ms Marvel a couple wounds. All Might then takes out Owlman. Ultraman deals the killing wound to Ms Marvel. Ultraman wins initiative and kills All Might, then All Might takes out Ultraman.

Aang’s Airbending was especially useful here to keep Cap or Winter Soldier away from engaging Aang or his allies. This was a rough matchup for the Soldiers, with Falcon being nearly useless against all fliers with defensive powers that work well against weak normal attacks.

Aang enters the Avatar State against Winter Soldier, killing him a single turn. Cap has terrible dice and falls to Ms Marvel and Supergirl after only inflicting a couple wounds on Ms Marvel, so I just stopped this one early. I think Aang’s offensive potential warrants a point bump so I’m going to just call this one.


Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Game called - Black Widow & Falcon remained against the full enemy team (Ms Marvel had 3 wounds).

Units: Aang (250), White Canary, Flash Barry (710) VS Nightwing, Wonder Girl Cassie I, Arrowette, Bunker (710)

The Titans take out White Canary early, leaving Aang and Flash on their own. Flash takes out Arrowette then Aang moves up. Aang uses the Avatar State against Wonder Girl, but only inflicts 2 wounds on her. However, his use of Air can enable ranged attacks (avoiding the counterstrike) while then engaging her afterwards to disable the lasso.

Aang proves very dodgy with Moving Target’s auto shield, as none of the Titans are heavy hitters. Wonder Girl brings Aang to 3 wounds before Aang takes her out. Flash finishes off Bunker. Nightwing kills Flash then Aang kills Nightwing, his Water’s defense subtraction proving very useful.

Going to remove the “move Aang” portion of Air in the special attack. Aang’s very nimble even without it and that will limit his kiting ability that makes him a brutal endgame figure.

Reed and Johnny lock down Flash early, and so White Canary brings in Aang to knock Johnny off of Flash to avoid Flame On 4. Aang uses the Avatar State on Johnny (Air -> Water -> Fire -> Earth) to knock him out of Sue’s aura and deal Johnny 4 wounds. Johnny goes supernova, then Reed kills Flash but Vibe saves him.

Aang kills Johnny, but then Reed locks him down alongside Flash. Aang uses Air to blow Reed out of Sue’s aura, and deals him a couple wounds. Thing kills Aang. The Fan4 take out all the DC heroes except for Green Arrow, then Green Arrow takes out Reed. Thing takes out Green Arrow.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: Aang is a lot of fun, and has a lot of utility with his special attack. He’s definitely coming in a bit hot, as his special attack can do a lot of nasty things - figure movement, defense subtraction, potential autowound. His avatar state (once per game 4 attacks) is absolutely brutal, shredding midlevel figures easily. Air and Water were typically my go-tos for the special attack. But Earth is handy if you know Aang is in danger, and Fire useful when attacking dodgy or especially durable figures.

Aang is especially mobile, with Moving Target and his Air special attack enabling him to zip around the battlefield often. Melee nonfliers struggle to engage him if Aang tries to avoid it. The change to Air enables melee figures to catch him, though multi-attackers struggle due to the autoshield and free movement from Moving Target.

I feel like the point increase to 250 and nerf to Air has reined him in appropriately. Aang’s a solid draft at 250 against midlevel heroes, but anyone with a strong attack can kill him unexpectedly. The key with playing Aang is keeping him away from those figures as best you can.
