Sorry I thought I had commented here; I must have navigated away without posting.

The "frag some Fire Ants with Banshee" thing has been covered; I think the most useful application is probably in a Nick Fury/SHIELD agent build. A ranged double attacker makes for a nice team with the Agents, and dead agents should keep the scales tipped towards that double attack. Sprinkle some Skrull Infiltrators so you don't have to kill your own SHIELD Agent to bring Nemesis in. Worth a look at least.

Aside from that, my favorite option for Nemesis would probably be Walkers and Skrull Infiltrators. As above, that should shift the scales quickly and put out plenty of potential infiltration targets. Lead out with Solomon Grundy or something. (At high points totals, you could combine these approaches, and go zombies & agents.)

Ok, Mother Nature finally decided to calm her **** with the rain for today, so I've finally got some of my tests written up.

NAME OF THE PLAYTEST UNIT: Nemesis (Tom Tresser) @140 points

Army Test 1
Map: Island Plane Crash (no e-glyph)
Units: Nemesis of Marvels: Nemesis (140), Ms Marvel (350), GL Stewart (340), Has Cap (220), Civilians x4 (180), Skrull Infiltrators x3 (30)- 1260 total vs Apes of Wrath: Solovar (260), Gorilla City Warriors x5 (625), Super-Ape (Gorilla) (200), Super-Ape (Orangutan) (170)- 1255 total

Game Summary:

So the basic idea here is to pod up with the heroes on height somewhere and then have the Civilians attack Ms Marvel (the two that J Stew moved up) or other Civilians (any of the rest) to rocket themselves up to form a defensive screen. Any Civilian on Civilian deaths (or Civilian suicides on Ms Marvel) also fuel Nemesis to prime him for a triple turn of HasCap backed ranged attacks when the time is right.

In this case, Nemesis ended up popping out early just to clear a GCW that needed to be deadafied and though he got the bonus turn, he missed out on double attack. He didn't do any damage with that bonus turn, and he never saw another one, but he did gum up the other team a bit for a while as J Stew used him as a portable meat shield. Ultimately, Tom and the Civs slowed the apes down enough for Stew and Carol to stop the Apes' escape and get the win.

Big takeaway here is I didn't feel like the kill your own stuff strategy was broken or anything as far as Nemesis was concerned. It was a nice enough play when I was going to do something that would result in friendly fire deaths anyway, but not something I really felt the need to do just for Tom's sake and he would have been a fine pick here even if he didn't get the markers from self-kills (he earned his keep just by clearing the right figure at the right time, the bonus turn and such was just gravy). I haven't tried the super optimal conditions of killing your own stuff turn one and then your opponent just happening to have someone Tom can Deep Cover in a choice spot to then try and assassinate a key enemy figure yet though.

Also, random side-note, the Civilians are kind of a train-wreck of a card as far as stupid exploitable combos go.

Unit Summary:

• Damage Done (Normal Attack): None.
• Deep Cover Infiltration: Ate a GCW at a pretty critical point, also gave him his only turn of the game.
• Scales of Justice: It... tracked things? Not sure what to say here as the power doesn't really do anything in and of itself.
• Balance the Scales: The extra attack die came into play, but didn't result in any wounds.
• Damage Taken: Eventually the Apes punched through him (which they had to to get to the important peoples behind him).

Result: Carol sends the Gorillas back to the mists with 4 life left, while a full health Cap comforts the 3 remaining Civilians.

Game Summary:

Trying out the first turn suicide play here, though I actually had to restart this one once as the first time Banshee failed to kill two of the Ants. It worked pretty well as the Shield Agents and Nemesis combined to take out Gamora on turn one. Nemesis died right after that though, and ultimately the rest of his team fell to the assassins. Overall, I'm not really worried about the tactic. A lot of things had to go right for it to work as well as it did, and I could have gotten similar results just by taking a turn with Fury instead of the convoluted Banshee Nemesis jump around. I think I would have much rather just drafted some Infiltrators (especially since they themselves are Agents) over the Fire Ants and saved Nemesis for later in the game where I could have done a proper triple turn or used him to shore up a weak area of board control.

Unit Summary:

• Damage Done (Normal Attack): Did 2 wounds to Gamora in his second attack of 5 to finish her off.
• Deep Cover Infiltration: Ate a Hand Ninja then comboed into a bonus turn after Banshee and the Shield Agents had their turns.
• Scales of Justice: Very scaly.
• Balance the Scales: Both the attack bonus and the double attack were online during his one turn.
• Damage Taken: Took a wound from a leaving engagement attack after he subed in so he could attack Gamora from height, then died under a swarm of Ninjas and Assassins right after.

Result: The Hand give themselves a hand with 1 Hand Ninja, 1 ELA, and 2 Men-Bats left standing.

Army Test 3
Map: Sewer Labyrinth
Units: Zombicide Squad: Nemesis (140), Waller (195), Mentallo (135), Warsuit Lex (280), Parasite (240), Sage (190), Lurkers x8 (200), Skrull Infiltrators x2 (20)- 1400 total vs Heroes for Fire: Luke Cage (190), Sunfire (250), Iron Man Mark IV (250), Spider-Man (C3G Peter) (250), Firestar (120), Human Torch (Robot) (150), Scarlet Spider (Ben) (190)- 1400 total

Game Summary:

Trying out Nemesis in another army that likes having expendable commons around. He took awhile to pop out this game, as the other team saw no reason to kill Lurkers just to fuel him up (though 'protecting' the Lurkers was worth a little something in and of itself), but he did eventually tag out a Lurker to finish off Iron Man. Unfortunately, shortly after that Parasite managed to get hit by a 1 on the D-20 and had to be blown up and the squad couldn't really recover from that (as using Waller and Mentallo to get double turns with Parasite each OM was pretty much the main thrust of this army).

One nice take away here, I think Tom would play very well with Rick Flag based on how their designs are shaping up. Had I had Rick here instead of Sage I think the squad could have pulled this one off.

Unit Summary:

• Damage Done (Normal Attack): Dealt 2 wounds to Iron Man to finish him off.
• Deep Cover Infiltration: Swapped out with a Lurker to get a bonus turn after the Suicide Squad had their turns.
• Scales of Justice: Scaled things.
• Balance the Scales: The attack boost was activated, but not the double attack.
• Damage Taken: Eventually killed off by Human Torch.

Result: A 3 life Scarlet Spider and 2 life Human Torch strike up a bond as all that remains of the Heroes for Fire.

Army Test 4
Map: Sewer Labyrinth
Units: Xtreme Vengeance: Nemesis (140), Sage (190), Ghost Rider (380), Multiple Man x13 (390)- 1100 total vs Assassins' Greed: Kingpin II (230), Tomoe Gozan (170), Merlyn (160), Winter Soldier (240), Zombie (120), Typhoid Mary (120), Jubilee (60)- 1100 total

Game Summary:

Nothing too complex here, Multiple Man acts as the first wave then Ghost Rider zaps/smashes whatever is left. Nemesis is here to either give Ghosty a bit more bite once a game or to try and take out a threatening figure with his range for the Multi Man gang (he also gives this army a little 'defense' against auto wounds, which otherwise negate a big chunk of what Ghosty and Multi Man do).

In this case, Tom subed in for a Dupe once he was primed with some markers to take try and take out Tomoe Gozan as she felt like the most annoying person on the field for Multiple Man to deal with. He managed to kill her in that one turn, though he took a wound from Fan Dance in the process, which capped of a pretty beastly player turn all around for his squad that the other team never really recovered from.

Unit Summary:

• Damage Done (Normal Attack): Killed Tomoe in two attacks during one turn (2 wounds, 4 wounds)
• Deep Cover Infiltration: Swapped with a Dupe and chained into a bonus turn.
• Scales of Justice: Things were indeed scaled!
• Balance the Scales: Both the attack boost and double attack came into play during his one turn of justice.
• Damage Taken: Took a hit from Tomoe's Fan Dance, but wasn't messed with after that.

Result: For once the wolves didn't get Tom as he survives with 3 life, along with a 4 life Ghost Rider, full health Sage, and 3 Dupes on the field.

Overall: Nemesis is playing like I want him to play, where he is pretty much good for one big surprise turn and anything else is gravy. I feel he's at a good place point cost wise, and I'm really not worried about him being broken considering Blue Beetle does pretty similar things but with several hundred times more ridiculousness.

IDK that was a pretty significant win if CA was still at full life and Carol still had 4 life at the end. The GCW army has been pretty strong when I played them, bit surprised it wasn't a closer game. I suppose their attacks were wasted stomping out civilians and skrulls instead of beating down heroes but then I guess that would be an argument to revisit those units.

I'd be wary about getting too revision happy - this isn't a Q9 or Puppet Master situation, I haven't been hearing people complaining massively about Skrulls and Civilians before.

Not to my standards, but I think it's fine for C3G.


Also, I think I'm going to changed the last bit of Balance the Scales to: ...after Nemesis attacks, he may attack one additional time. That should make it clearer that he can potentially lose out on the double attack if he kills someone with his first attack, which was the intent but probably wasn't how it would have technically worked as originally written.
