The Book of John Dusk
The Book of John Dusk C3G AVATAR PRESS WAVE 40 WAR OF THE INDEPENDENTS Comic PDF Mini PDF The figure used for this unit is a repainted Heroclix figure from the Avengers/Defenders War set. Its model number and name are #002 / Daredevil. The figure used for this unit is a repainted Heroclix figure from the Avengers/Defenders War: Marvel Knights Fast Forces set. Its model number and name are #001 / Daredevil. Instructions on painting this figure _________________________________________________________________ Character Bio - The man code-named John Dusk is one of the top enhanciles on the police force. With the ability to create an "aura" around him, he can use this aura to create prehensile tendrils, weapons, shields, and can even propel himself through the air much like flying. With only a few enhanciles on the payroll, unfortunately they end up pulling long shifts. Dealing with other super powered horrors is draining on the mind, and after too many cases of depraved criminals being apprehended, just to see them walk after a botched court case, Dusk has enough. The only way to bring peace to his tormented mind and stop the nightmares is to go out at night and put an end to the worst criminals - permanently. _________________________________________________________________ -Rulings and Clarifications-

Re: The Book of John Dusk (Breathing)
NAME = JOHN DUSK
SPECIES = ENHANCILE UNIQUENESS = UNIQUE HERO CLASS = LAWMAN PERSONALITY = TORMENTED SIZE/HEIGHT = MEDIUM 5 LIFE = 5 MOVE = 5 RANGE = 5 ATTACK = 5 DEFENSE = 5 POINTS = 220 AURA BARRIER 4 Start the game with 4 blue Aura Markers on this card. Before John Dusk or any friendly figure within 3 clear sight spaces of John Dusk rolls defense dice, you may remove one Aura Marker from this card. If you do, the defending figure rolls 1 additional die, or 3 additional dice if that figure is a Lawman. AURA ASSAULT SPECIAL ATTACK Range 3. Attack 3. John Dusk may only use this special attack if there is at least one Aura Marker on this card. After attacking, you may move the defending figure one space. Figures moved by this special attack never take leaving engagement attacks. When John Dusk attacks with this special attack, he may attack 2 additional times. He cannot attack the same figure more than once. CROSSING THE RUBICON Once per game instead of attacking, you may choose an adjacent figure with 3 or less Life remaining and roll 3 unblockable attack dice against the chosen figure. If the chosen figure is destroyed, remove all Order Markers from cards in your army and for the rest of the game John Dusk's class is considered to be Vagabond instead of what is listed on this card. Spoiler Alert!
Background: Dark city street maybe. He's essentially a vigilante out at night, so anything like that is good. Last edited by Lord Pyre; November 24th, 2020 at 05:49 PM. |

Re: The Book of John Dusk (Breathing)
Very cool design. Will be a nice addition to the Lawmen.

Re: The Book of John Dusk (Breathing)
He's pretty obscure, but another heavy hitter for the Lawmen! Theme-wise, just imagine him to be Dexter from the TV show, in a way. Cop by day and killer by night.
His powers are very Green Lantern inspired. He can make constructs and shields. Including buckets and such.
Spoiler Alert!
Here's him "Flying." Usually it's walking like Doc Ock, but his range seems pretty unlimited and he is soaring through the sky like he can fly normally at times.
Spoiler Alert!
And here's his famous execution, as you might imagine (graphic)

Re: The Book of John Dusk (Breathing)
Stepping out of the 90s! We'll bring you up to the current decade someday, LP.
Interesting design, pretty rawly mechanical for the first two. I can't imagine ever burning a marker for additional range - +2/3 defense is so much more valuable than +2 range - but the option never hurts. I'd almost consider dual classing him to Slasher - like maybe when you execute someone he stops being a Lawman and starts being a Slasher? Would be interesting, mechanically. But I don't know how exactly it "works" in universe, if he ever gets revealed, what the consequences are, that sort of thing. JOHNNY139'S CLASSIC CUSTOM THREAD! | Visit now!

Re: The Book of John Dusk (Breathing)
Hey Sentry was like, 2000. That's after the 90's!
He does get found out and goes on the run and is hunted by the police. My first draft of him had some class change mechanics, but it felt messy and just discouraged you from running him with Lawmen, which was the opposite of what I wanted. I'm willing to brainstorm more on that if we want! Yes the markers are basically just mechanical for the range add, that way there's no overlap with a basic triple attack SA if we have one. |

Re: The Book of John Dusk (Breathing)
Looking at the card, I'm a little concerned that you're encouraged to use Aura Execution early on a tough opponent it won't kill - go swinging out the gate, do some early damage, but it's not fatal so your army won't react to it. Given how you've described him, that doesn't seem thematic.

Yeah we could tack on a "If they have 3 or fewer life remaining" or something like that. Good call.

Re: The Book of John Dusk (Breathing)
Duck!
Cool power set. Pretty straightforward. It does strike me as odd that you use the Aura markers for the first two Aura powers and not the last Aura power. C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

Re: The Book of John Dusk (Breathing)
The marker burn on the SA being useless is kind of a bummer. Also feels weird to me that he's got 3-4 different representations of his aura with different ranges: 2 on the protection, 1 on the execution, 3-5 on the SA, and 5 on his normal (assuming he's hitting people with his aura for his normal attack).
I think the execution thing being adjacent feels right (not knowing the character), but I wish the other numbers lined up. Makes a card easier to play. I'd also rebrand Aura Execution as Ruthless Execution 3 or something. It doesn't feel like it's really about the aura, even if that's how the character would do it. Comes with the side benefit of breaking up the all-"Aura Noun" powerset. |
