Re: Hurricane Irene
Well, one hurricane and four day power outage later, and my house is still standing, no trees in my backyard fell on the house, and I've learned practically all of Maxwell Murder on the bass guitar. So all in all, no worse for wear .

Re: Hurricane Irene
Lost power/water/phone/internet on Sunday and don't have any of it back yet. The road was cut-off in both directions, isolating about eight houses completely, of which we were one. One direction re-opened to emergency vehicles and hardcore trucks and ATVs yesterday; we managed to get out today. Don't have much internet time, but just wanted to check in. I'll save the thread to read offline later---I hope it's full of good news. |

Re: Hurricane Irene
WooHoo, welcome back ollie Good to hear from you and Bassist.
I was getting worried for you ollie. The news from your area has been bleak. Looking forward to your next Fan-Fic Bassist. Re: Hurricane Irene
The power came back on the evening I posted last---a round 80hrs without. We did not get phone/internet again until last night.
The bridge at the bottom of the road was washed out (more accurately, the road on each side was---most of the bridge is still there, but there's a chasm each side where the road should be). This means going up the road and an extra 10miles along small dirt roads to more-or-less every journey. No sign of this changing soon. Our preparations held up well though. It quickly became clear that we are used to winter outages rather than summer ones; not having the woodstove constantly burning (giving an easy source of hot water and a good cooking surface) kept being inconvenient, but we adapted. We had it burning for a few hours each evening---glad it was in the 70s rather than the 90s. (We have a gas grill too, but that was just much more inconvenient for most of what we wanted to do, it seemed). We'll be buying a camping stove soon. Glad to hear that 'scapers generally came through unscathed. |

Re: Hurricane Irene
I heard your town, and specifically that bridge, mentioned on NPR one day. Not every day that the metropolis that is Marlboro, VT makes the news.

Re: Hurricane Irene
Glad you didn't wash away, Ollie. Down here in NYC, extra rain on top of Irene means more flooding - and the roads are already bad enough with that, plus we have to contend with terrorist checkpoints for the upcoming 9/11 memorial ceremony.
