Night Falls

As most of you know, I was working on another story called Nightfall after finishing my Zombie story. However, that story has since fallen through do to inpenetrable writer's block but I am happy to say that I have begun work on a second zombie story (no ties to the original). It will be a little bit different because it shows the cause of the virus, and I think it could turn out really well. I probably won't have the second part up for a week or so, but I couldn't wait to put up the intro. Here it is, hope you enjoy it.

“Turner! What is going on in there?” Sergeant Roger Rozelle turned to the scientist next to him, who was studying a packet of papers in his hands. “Oh! Uh, my apologies sir. We are about to sedate the subject and then we will administer the drug.” Rozelle nodded. “And this is the one, right? So he will wake up and the experiment will be a success?” Turner nodded slowly. “As long as our calculations have been correct, sir.” Rozelle now nodded again and the two men stood in silence in a small, dark room, observing a sterile, white room before them containing two doctors and a man lying on a stretcher through one-way glass.

"Now Pete, you’re just going to feel a prick in your arm when we sedate you and then we will give you the drug. It is important that you are sedated so that you will be completely relaxed and you will have a couple minutes for your body to accept the drug before you wake up. Are you ready?” Pete nodded nervously to the doctor standing over him with a needle. “When you awake, you will be the start of a new generation of warfare. As strong, fast, and durable as ten men combined.” The doctor bent over Pete and injected the sedative into his body, rendering him unconscious as they began to introduce the drug into his system that would make him the world’s first of many super soldiers. When they were finished, doctors Steven and Matthew gazed at one another in satisfaction. “I think we’ve done it,” said Matthew, cracking a smile. Steven, however, stopped him. “We don’t know that yet. We can’t assume anything until we see what happens when Pete wakes up.”

About ten minutes after being knocked out, Pete’s eyes shot open. He was freezing all over his body, and he noticed his skin was gray and clammy. Immediately he realized something was wrong. He rose into a sitting position, but he couldn’t move nearly as fast as usual. He got up and turned to Steven, trying to ask him what was wrong, but all that would come out was a raspy moan. As he grew closer to Steven, he could feel himself losing consciousness again and he reached out to Steven to try and support himself so he wouldn’t fall over, but as soon as his hand touched Steven’s shoulder, he instantly became uncontrollably hungry…

“Get him off!” Steven yelled as Pete’s teeth dug into his shoulder, drawing blood and ripping out a hunk of flesh. “Ahh!!!” He yelled in pain. He fell to the floor as Matthew ran over to help. Pete slashed at Matthew with his claws and scratched the back of his hand, but Matthew kicked him square in the chest and sent him sprawling to the floor. At that moment, three men with guns burst into the room and yelled for all three men to get down on the floor. Before Matthew could react, the men opened fire on Pete, sending four rounds through his skull. Pete lay still on the floor as the men turned to Steven. They hoisted him up and two men roughly escorted him out of the room and down the hall to one of the containment chambers, much to his horror. “No! Please! It’s nothing serious! Let me go!” Steven yelled as Matthew watched him being dragged away. The other man turned to Matthew. “He didn’t get you did he? We know he got your friend, but he didn’t touch you did he?” Matthew shook his head, feeling beads of sweat roll down the side of his face, and answered: “No. He didn’t. Just missed.” The man nodded and clapped Matthew on the shoulder. “Ok, wait right here. We’ll give you instructions on what to do momentarily.” The man began to walk down the hall and Matthew’s mind went into overdrive, desperately trying to think of an escape route. He had to get out of this facility. Whatever they were doing to Steven couldn’t be good, and whatever was in store for him he didn’t want to know. He remembered the location of an emergency exit and sprinted down the hall to it. Before anyone could stop him he was driving away in his car, heading for the closest town he could think of: Stamford, North Carolina.

“Station this is Officer Daniels. We have an abandoned car on the side of the road outside Stamford with driver’s door open and a little blood on the seat. No sign of occupant or struggle but keys still in ignition. Requesting orders, over.”

Re: Night Falls

Heheh. What do you know? You start a new zombie story just as I'm about to do the same. This is epic though. At a guess. Mathews was actually scratched and because he wasn't properly contained the apocalypse begins right?

Thanks! I'll be sure to check it out when it goes up. I think I've found my comfort zone for writing fiction . (And yes, you are exactly right about Matthews)

Re: Night Falls

Next chapter up. Sorry for the delay and the shortness of the chapter; the latter is because I wanted to get this up as quickly as I could. The next chapter will be longer.

“Dude. Behind the Cam Newton jersey. Four or five people back, smokin’ hot blonde.” Zak Blair stood on a small platform in his parents’ garage next to his friend Scott, who’s ear he was currently whispering into.” Scott responded by smacking him in the back of the head. “That’s my stepsister dude!” Zak looked at him in disbelief. “No way dude! How long?” Scott shrugged. “Don’t know, like a year, maybe less. But we always hang out at your place so you never noticed.” Zak nodded. “Oh, sorry man, whatever. Should we start the next song?” Scott nodded back. “Yeah, that’s a good idea. Let’s go guys!” Scott grabbed his guitar and addressed Mason and Joey, the bassist and drummer in their band of four. Zak held the microphone up to his mouth and began to sing as the music blasted through the amps set up on either side of the garage in front of the 20-or-so high-schoolers that had come to watch them play. The four teens had started a band about a year ago and although they were not getting much farther than playing out of a garage, they were having the time of their lives. There was nothing like being on top of the world in the middle of nowhere.

“So would you mind if I asked her out?” Zak asked as soon as the song was over. Scott looked at him in disbelief. “Yes I would mind! Dude that’d be weird.” Zak thought for a second, and then replied, “Yeah but if we got married then you and me would be stepbrothers.” “Dude you’re right!” Scott high-fived Zak before being tapped on the shoulder by Mason. “Hey, we should start the next song guys.” Scott nodded. “Ok ok Mason cool your jets. Let’s get-“ “Hey! Get away from my girl!” In the back of the small crowd, a large highschooler who played defensive tackle for Stamford High grabbed a pale faced man and threw him to the ground before stomping on his chest. A short girl next to him looking shocked and a little frightened clung to his arm, watching the man slowly get up from the ground with black blood on his face. Seemingly unfazed, he began to move towards the highschooler with arms outstretched, moaning loudly. “Who do you think you are buddy?” The highschooler moved his girlfriend out of the way, grabbed the man by his shirt, and pulled him close. “Listen I don’t know what you’re trying to pull but- AHH!!!!” The man reached forward and bit a huge chunk out of the base of the highschooler’s neck, causing him to fall to the ground in agony. “Derek!” His girlfriend rushed to his side frantically, trying to see if he was ok while the man began to chew on the hunk of flesh. “Does anyone have a phone? Someone call the cops!” Zak spoke into the microphone while the rest of the band stood onstage, dumbfounded at what they were seeing. Slowly, Derek stood up from the ground, revealing that his shirt was now heavily bloodstained and he was much paler. As he began to moan loudly, the crowd of people noticed in horror what they had not seen before: both the man and now Derek had yellow eyes.

Re: Night Falls

I know it's probably a bit boring right now but in the next chapter it'll start to pick up. Until then, enjoy and as always, feedback is appreciated.

“Derek? Derek are you ok? Someone call 911 he’s really bleeding!” Derek’s girlfriend grabbed his arm and asked him again if he was ok, but he didn’t respond. Meanwhile the other man began to stumble forward towards other horrified teenagers, who were backing away in fear. Zak and Scott jumped off the stage, followed quickly by Mason and Joey, and tried to grasp what exactly was going on. “Zombies! It’s happening! They’ve turned into zombies!” yelled one panicked teen, who sprinted away from the scene. “Are your parents home?” Scott asked Zak urgently, who shook his head vigorously. “They went with my grandpa to a movie. I don’t know…is he right? Are they zombies?” “I don’t know,” replied Scott, “But we need to do something. Did anyone call 911?” he shouted to the crowd of frightened students, some of whom were screaming or fleeing. Not receiving an answer, Scott burst through the door into Zak’s house and grabbed a phone. “He-hello? Is this the cops? Or an ambulance or something? We need you now!” A female voice spoke calmly to Scott on the other end. “Sir, I need you to calm down. Tell me what happened, and where you are.” “Uh, yeah, I’m at uh…1103 Grove Street! And this guy, he just, like, bit this other dude in the neck and I don’t know what’s going on! People are panicking and these two guys are in a trance or something!” On the other end of the phone Scott could hear the phone exchanging hands roughly and suddenly a gruff male voice replied: Stay where you are. We will be there momentarily. Avoid contact with those two men at all costs. Get whoever hasn’t been infected into a safe residence and do not try to subdue or destroy the infected.” Then the line went dead and Scott was left standing in Zak’s living room, puzzled by the man’s comments. Why did he assume they would try to kill whoever was apparently “infected”? He turned to run back out to the garage, but before he reached the door Mason burst in.

“Scott! Stay here, the others coming in. I don’t know what’s going on, but the guy bit the girl and everyone’s scared and these three people are walking around out there trying to bite people and-“ “Mason!” Scott interrupted and put his hand on Mason’s shoulder. “It’s gonna be fine. Someone’s on the way, I already made the call. This guy told us to stay away from those people though, so just stay here. Who’s left out there?” Mason was about to respond, but Zak answered his question by opening the door and ushering in Katie, Joey, and Charlie, one of their friends from school.” Zak slammed the door shut behind them and then locked eyes with Scott. “What’s going on? Is there gonna be help coming? The three of them are right outside.” Scott nodded. “It’s alright, this guy said there’s gonna be people coming but he said stay away from those people.” Zak nodded but whirled around in surprise as they all heard a scratching noise on the other side of the door accompanied by moans. “Who is it?” asked Mason inquiringly. “Don’t open that! It’s them,” Joey practically yelled in a mixture of fear and authority. SMASH! Everyone turned to see a glass box sitting in pieces on the floor next to the mantle and Zak, who was holding a strangely-shaped pistol in his hand. “What are you doing?” asked Mason, confused. Zak looked up after shoving a round in the chamber and said, “I’m preparing. We don’t know what’s going on, but I’m not gonna be unprotected. My grandpa got this Welrod after serving in World War II and he left it unloaded on the mantle, but I know where he hid the bullets. It’s not very long range and can only hold a round at a time, but it’s something.” Just as Zak finished the sentence all six teens jumped at the sound of loud gunfire outside and the sound of bodies dropping to the concrete. Before any of them could react, a man kicked down the door and walked into the room with an M4 pressed against his shoulder as Zak quickly shoved the Welrod into the back of his pants. “Has any of you come into contact with the infected?” he bellowed. Everyone shook their heads. “Good. You kids better come with me.” He led them out through the garage, over the bodies of Derek, his girlfriend, and the man, and into the back of a white van.

Wow. Bassist I find it really ironic that you have trully found your comfort zone with a bunch of zombies lol, but I really like this fan fic. Unfortunately writing about zombies doesn't really seem to be my thing. Maybe I could write a zombie humor story, but I've put enough dead threads on this forum.

Thanks EL, it seems I did find my comfort zone with zombies . I liked your newest zombie story but whatever you're comfortable with would be best. And don't stop writing stories just because you're worried about clogging up the forum .

Re: Night Falls

Sorry it's been a while, but it's tryout season so I'm doing the best I can. Next chapter is up and the story is hopefully going to start picking up around now. Hope you like it!

“What’s going on? Where are you taking us? What happened to those people?” Katie asked the man once all of them were in the back of the van. Before starting it, the man turned around and stared at them all coldly. “Listen, a lot is happening here that you don’t understand. When we reach our destination, you will be informed about a carbon monoxide leak in your home that unfortunately resulted in the deaths of three people.” “What?” Charlie responded angrily. “We all know you murdered those three people and you expect us to go along with your story?” The man started the car and spoke back: “So you think I’m a cold-blooded killer? No. I work for an…organization that is trying to eradicate those creatures you saw back there. If I didn’t kill them they surely would’ve harmed others. Now I expect you to go along with the story because if you breath one word of what actually happened you will be declared legally insane and sent to a mental institution for the rest of your life. This will all be over soon kids, and you’ll be able to return to your normal lives.” This time it was Scott who spoke up. “There were more people that saw those things than us you know! What are you going to do, declare 30 people insane for all telling the same story?” The man twisted around in his seat and furiously pointed a finger at Scott. “You obviously do not understand the gravity of this situation! Now all will be explained when we reach the base! So until then, shut up!” The man turned around as the teens fell silent, but as soon as he took his first glance out of the windshield he had to wrench the steering wheel to one side to avoid a teen running across the street. The van screeched as he tried to apply the brakes while swerving to one side, but before he could react the van slammed into a lightpost with a deafening crash and abruptly stopped.

“Oww…” Scott sat up after being knocked into the front seat and rubbed his head. “Are you guys alright?” Everyone else nodded despite several cuts and bruises and slowly began to move around. The front of the van had taken the most damage from the impact, which was apparent from the man’s appearance. He was lying unconscious on the airbag and he had several cuts on his face which blood was slowly seeping out of. “Should we help him?” asked Katie, looking at Scott for an answer. Scott shook his head slowly. “No, you hear what he was gonna do to us? I don’t like the sound of that base and obviously something serious is going on here. We need to stick together and think of a plan.” Joey opened the back of the van and stepped out. “Well if we’re gonna think of a plan I know some better places to do it then the back of a stranger’s van.” He motioned for the others to follow, but Zak stopped him. “Actually Joey, the back of a van is looking pretty good to me right now. Look behind you.” Zak pointed and Joey stepped back in shock. At least ten of the things they had seen before were now hobbling down the street towards them as more people screamed, slammed doors, or yelled for family members or loved ones. “More zombies. Hang on, let me get my Welrod.” Zak pulled out his Welrod while Scott noted, “You know I’m still not sold on the whole zombie thing.” Zak shrugged as he shoved a round in the chamber. “Yeah, well, I bet if I shoot it in the head it’ll die. Did you see those bodies at my house? All of them had bullets in the head. That guy knows what’s up.” He hopped out of the van and stood for several seconds aiming the pistol. Finally he pulled the trigger and with a loud crack a round was sent right into the skull of one of the zombies, who fell to the ground in a heap.

“Told you.” Zak stuck his tongue out at Scott in a joking manner. “Where’d you learn to shoot like that?” Katie asked Zak, who smiled to himself. “Well, you know things have gotten so crazy and what with crime rates going up and stuff I decided to learn to protect myself and loved ones. If you can’t protect the ones you love, what does it matter if you can protect yourself?” “Ohh…” Katie smiled dreamily at Zak, much to Scott’s chagrin. “Wait, but didn’t your grandfather actually teach you how to shoot in case the liberals tried to take over the country?” asked Scott hurriedly. Zak shrugged. “Well, he was the one who took me to the range but you know, I was definitely into the whole thing already.” Scott nodded although it was apparent he didn’t believe a word of Zak’s story. “So does that mean you have more guns at your house?” Zak nodded. “Yeah except they’re under about 20,000 locks and I don’t know where the key is. Looks like we’re stuck with this piece of junk.” He held up the Welrod as he shoved another round in. “Well that piece of junk better prove its worth fast; more of those things are coming.” Said Charlie, who was still huddled in the back of the van. Zak stared at Charlie for a second, nodded, and fired another shot at a zombie. “There sure are a lot of zombies here. Shouldn’t we go somewhere safe like back to Zak’s house?” Mason asked after they watched the zombie crumple to the pavement. “Yes. Good idea. We need to think of a plan, be somewhere secure, and stay away from zombies because SOMEBODY is getting a little trigger happy.” Replied Scott, directing the second part of his statement towards Zak. “Hey,” retorted Zak, “It’s impossible to be trigger happy with this thing. It sucks.”

Hey guys! In case anyone is actively wondering what the deal is with this thread, don't worry. I'm still continuing the story. I've been really busy lately and didn't have power for a couple days because of the hurricane, but I am working on the next chapter and hope to have it up soon. Thanks for reading!
