What if you just dropped the Squad languange and just said 3 Common Skrull figures? It'd let you mix and match or make the Warriors essentially a Squad of 3.

Hmm, that's not a bad idea, and sounds like it has precedent, yeah.

It would definitely give more flexibility, and streamline the wording a bit. Since there's mechanical precedent, any issues or objections with making that one?

I dont see why you'd need one. You choose a figure, you activate it, you move on. We have already done it essentially with other squads, albeit with special powers on their cards. See Crowd Movement on the Civillians. Sure you might argue that you still activate a Squad first, but then you're choosing up to 8 individual Squad figures followed by 4 to attack with.

I agree. Not seeing why it cannot be done but I am unsure if it is possible to do with Heroscape wording.
I like that approach.

Very different experience in these matches compared to my previous ones. 
Its looking to me that in my solo games I was playing the X-Men too defensively in game 1, and focusing too much on getting rid of the Emperor in Game 2 rather than the Warriors.

Now for these:
In game 1 of this set against Bats, I built an army designed to go straight for the Emperor and take out squads (Crispus, Wally and Yondu). I probably should have been more patient whittling away the Warriors before sending in Crispus to take on the Emperor. Losing a 525pt 12 life Event hero just to do 5 damage to a 300pt Unique hero was not smart of me. Yondu didn’t last long, should probably have just allowed the Skulls to advance further across Grundy’s Grave to set up more for the Arrow, and then send in Crispus so he doesn’t get gunned down immediately.
So while a decent win for the Skrulls against a counter-army, I didn’t lead the army well.

Game 2 against the Outsiders I had no idea what I was doing. Only read the cards once, and right before the match. Pretty much made every mistake I could have. But the amount of synergy and options for the Outsiders available for 1000pts seems to far far outshine what the team I was playing was capable of. And its possible I just undervalued what 1000pts should really mean in my solo playtests, because if that’s what 1000pts looks like, the Emperor may have been fine before any changes. Compared to the Outsiders, all the Skrulls have is numbers and decently beefy stats. Huge win for the Outsiders

Game 3, at 1000pts against the FF, it’s a little tough, because with the cost of the FF Super Skrull and the Warriors, there’s not room for many Infiltrators, who help to get past Invisible Woman’s defense aura and tie down the team. In my HeadScape, with the previous version I played, I thought the FF would really struggle against an Emperor led army, but not the case.
It did make me think Emperor may have been more appropriate at range of 10 for Infiltrator drop, as the whole point is to get those initial unblockables, and slow down the advancement of the other team, allowing the Warriors time to advance, so they really should be able to get far out. This is an advancing, invasion army after all. Huge win for the FF

So I’m thinking its possible (probable?) that my solo-games were more indicative of poor approaches to combating the Skrulls, rather than the Emperor having been over powered previously.
I only really played them against the X-Men, so seeing them against all these other builds, against another person, they’re not as powerful as I thought. I really learned how much they struggle when the dice are not in their favor, or when an opponent’s single OM grants multi-turns, and each figure is consistently killing multiple Warriors.

The Skrulls have been non-competitive for so long, I’d hate for my solo-playtests to result in an overcorrection, where the faction stays left behind for it.

My take is that the common unit activation is a good change, but keep the drop at 10. But I also wouldn’t hate to have the old double-squad/triple-hero version either.

I like the cleanness of the "up to 3 common figures" part, though, so I want to keep that as is.

I'm updating the Skrull Infiltrator placement to 10 spaces and then propose we move to Final Editing at 300 points.
