The will NOT be lost, but you will generally not be able to receive additional PMs until you trim back to your new lower limit.

(I say "generally" because there are a couple of categories of users, admins for example, that can still send you messages even when you are over your PM box limit).

Yes, you can. I've been a lifetime member for a long while now and I used to regularly make additional contributions. I haven't in a while so I just did using the yearly renewal option, to make sure I wasn't fibbing ya.
