I think the episode with Skip's backstory is the best episode I've seen. Still have a hard time liking Mordecai and Rigby which I think hurts the show for me. Like I said earlier, not bad, not my flavor.

Re: TV: What Are You Watching?
This is the week the new season starts for some of my favorites (no spoilers) and etc.:
Gotham: (Fox) Excellent! This for the show I originally wasn't going to watch and didn't want to like. Don't miss Morena Baccarin (from Firefly), even though her face is in the shadows of Arkham most of the time. Sleepy Hollow: (Fox) Disappointing--the weaknesses of this generally good show are now glaring. This reset after the resolution of the first conflict didn't work for me. I may not follow it any more. Agent Carter: (ABC) Excellent! Crossovers from the Marvel movies continue. I love period pieces. Younger folks can find out how much fun sexism was in the late 1940s. (I still remember it from the late 50s and early 60s). The prequel to Agents of SHIELD, in its time slot; 2 hours. The regular time slot will be 9 PM in 7 parts total. The Ant Man teaser is at the end of the Part II, which is listed separately On Demand. The Anime Network (Time Warner Cable System Channel 1003): Don't miss an award winning movie by Studio Ghibli: Children Who Chase Voices From Deep Underground. Always check the running times; this separates the regular TV episodes from movie and other specials. (Edit) Forever (ABC) "The Wolves of Deep Brooklyn" Solid--the values of friendship in Brooklyn versus those of money in Manhattan. Yo! *Coming Soon: Final Chas favorites Castle (ABC) and The Flash (WB). Last edited by chas; January 7th, 2015 at 09:06 PM. |

Re: TV: What Are You Watching?
I had a similar reaction watching Sleepy Hollow this week. I really enjoyed season 1 quite a bit but so far season 2 has not been as entertaining. The direction the show has gone in with regards to Katrina has not been good at all. I was initially excited about the prospects of adding a witch to their evil fighting team but the execution has been completely botched to a point where I don't like the character at all.

Was able to finally get to see both the pilot 2 hour episode and this past Tuesday's episode of Agent Carter. I absolutely love it.

Re: TV: What Are You Watching?
Enjoyed the latest episode of Forever. Its another show I didn't want to like, but was drawn in by Ioan Griffudd (who I've liked every since the TV Hornblower) and Judd Hirsh (who I've seen live on stage here in NYC); who are wonderful. But its taken them longer to build the relationship between the male and female leads, which is finally heating up. Its not as much fun as Castle, but the immortality angle allows them to do some interesting things--less 'historical' and more personal--and the Evil Immortal is an interesting factor.
For a 1960s show with a younger father and older son, look up The Second Hundred Years. Monte Markham is frozen in a glacier during the Alaska Goldrush, revived in modern times, and goes to live with his son ('Larry Tate' from Bewitched). He doesn't have a social security card, but a more vibrant, earthy personality than us moderns. It only lasted one season, but I enjoyed it, as they got to satirize modern society a bit. Re: TV: What Are You Watching?
Last night:
MASH(1979): Episode where a baby is left for the doctors. WKRP(1979): Episode where a baby is left for Doctor Fever. Doctor Who(1976) Fourth Doctor(Tom Baker): These have been fun. One thing I did not remember about the 4th Doctor is his combat skills. I remember the third Doctor being quite skilled but the 4th is no slouch. In the episode last night he took on three armed 'knights' in a sword fight and won. The Goldbergs(2015): Incredible episode. I did not get hooked by this show but I do enjoy it as it is pretty much a Wonder Years of my childhood or at least that period of time. Last night focused on The Transformers: The Movie(1986). For those who have never seen it
Spoiler Alert!
Nova(PBS): Special on the Large Hadron Collider and the search for the Higgs-Boson particle. Fascinating research and the sure scale of the machine is incredible. Re: TV: What Are You Watching?
We have two shows on the go at the moment: Doc Martin and Blacklist. Very different.
Doc Martin is old-fashioned British early-Sunday-evening fare. Grumpy London surgeon (Martin Clunes, voice of Kipper the Dog is, I think, his biggest US presence, although Men Behaving Badly is what I always associate him with) suddenly develops a fear of blood and moves to picturesque village with quirky locals to be a GP. We're just starting the fourth season. The first two were great, the third clunked a bit, and a couple of episodes in the fourth is looking a bit better. Blacklist is proper hardhitting torture-justifying US crime-porn. But with James Spader, who is sufficiently lovely to make it all worth watching. We're about five episodes in. I recommend both. |

Re: TV: What Are You Watching?
I did not know that Doc Martin had a blood aversion. I have caught a few episodes in pieces.
Blacklist was one that I thought was going to be really dumb and it impressed me from the beginning. Spader is incredible. Re: TV: What Are You Watching?
12 Monkeys on Syfy......wow call me impressed. When they first said the main characters name was James Cole I was concerned I wouldn't like it, since they were clearly going to throw out everything in the movie and start all over again, but then they pulled the first watch trick and I was hooked on this re-imagination of the story. The second watch trick was even more spectacular. Really happy about how they treated the Dr. too. She stops James cold and demands to have some answers rather then just blindly following along and she actually started researching Frost on her own instead of doing nothing. They also allowed James to complete his mission in the first episode instead of dragging it out. I'll definitely be watching every week.
