Looking for thoughts on how to beat these guys in a "heat of the battle" game. Their weakness is their movement, but in HofB they do not really have to move. Also, ranged figures are not nearly as powerful in HofB games. thoughts?

WFT squads have historically done very well in HOB.

Any other ideas? Seems that Cathar are structured to excel at HOB.

I think counterintuitively you can do okay with Knights of Weston in HoB vs. Cathar. Finn Gilbert can fearlessly take the Spears and give you the hitting power to punch through the Cathar 4 defense.

I was told Braced Spear is optional based on the Grimnak ruling. Could we get it added to the Rulings and Clarifications for the Cathar?

Any Braced Spear ruling should logically also apply to Engagement Strike rulings, since they mechanically are the same ability.
Something of note is that Engagement strike contains the additional text

Figures may only be targeted as they move into engagement with Arkmer/a Nakita Agent/Motley Max.

which cantains the word "may" implying that it is optional, where as Braced Spear does not contain the word "may".

The Grimnak ruling is card-specific and not dispositive to any other cards or rulings.

For example, Anubian Wolves' Unleashed Fury is a mandatory power that lacks the "you must" text used in many other mandatory powers. Similarly, Feral Troll's Regenerate is also a mandatory power.

I do not believe that Engagement Strike is optional (the "may" in that sentence is clarifying that it only happens upon entering engagement).
