NAME OF THE PLAYTEST UNIT: Gali

Map: A Couple Puddles
Units: Gali (170), Lewa, Ms. Marvel (660) VS Iron Men: Mk 5, Hasbro, Mk 1, Mk 1 (660)

Spoiler Alert!

Iron Armory move up, and Ms. Marvel moves the Toa up slowly. The Iron Men put 3 wounds on Gali early on. Ms Marvel puts 2 wounds on Hasbro Iron Man.

Ms. Marvel and Lewa take out both Mk 1s. The Iron Men take out Ms Marvel, then Hasbro Iron Man manages to kill Gali from height. The Iron men finish off Lewa afterwards.

Gali’s Toa Unity was a deterrent to attacking Lewa early on, and Water Control was used once to prevent the Mk 1s from engaging Gali, and once to allow Lewa some free disengages.


Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Iron Men win. Mk 5 (1 wound), Hasbro (2 wounds).

Map: A Couple Puddles. Added a couple swamp water tiles to the map this game because this map doesn’t have much water.
Units: Gali (170), Lewa, Captain America (550) VS Batman I, Huntress, Robin Dick, Robin Damian (550)

R1: Both teams move up slowly. Gali uses Water Control to prevent the Batfamily from walking near them due to the water. Damian puts a couple wounds on Cap. Cap puts a couple wounds on Damian. Dick moves up. Gali uses Water Control to let Cap disengage Dick freely and go after Damian again. Gali attacks Damian but is blocked.

R2: Cap once again can’t hit Damian. Huntress kills Cap. Gali finally kills Damian. The Batfamily puts a wound on Lewa (Gali laid down some water so Dick wouldn’t be able to engage her - rather than separate from Robin, Batman elected to just attack Lewa). Gali is blocked.

R3: Gali takes out Huntress but has to make herself vulnerable to do so, so Batman & Dick put 4 wounds on her.

R4: Batman & Dick take out Gali and Lewa.


Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Batman (0 wounds), Robin Dick (0 wounds) win.

R1: The Agents move up with Coulson, while Team Water just stays put while Ocean Master rises the tide.

R2: Gali puts 3 wounds on Black Widow, then the Agents put 4 wounds on Gali. Gali puts a 4th wound on Black Widow. The Agents take out Gali and Black Widow eliminates a Royal Guard. Ocean Master rises the tide again and Aqualad engages the agents but is eliminated.

R3: The Royal Guard kill Black Widow and put 3 wounds on Mockingbird. The agents kill a guard. Ocean Master kills Mockingbird. The agents kill the rest of the Royal Guards. The agents wound Ocean Master.

R4: Ocean Master has pretty crappy dice and can’t wound anyone, so the Agents slowly whittle him down and kill him.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: Rough results, with 3 losses. Gali has some decent attack potential with a ranged attack of 4 when she’s near water, but she’s nothing special defensively. Water Control is a useful support power against melee figures, but not needed against all armies. The second pip (subtracting opponent’s defense) never got any use, but she kinda needs a bonder that can move figures to set that up.

Factional thoguhts: The Toa kinda suck together right now, but I’m hoping that changes as more Toa synergy comes in. I think Onua and Tahu will have to provide some pretty good synergy to the group to get them to work well together, but that’s fine thematically. Gali herself offers some nice boosts to Lewa. They just lack offensive oomph - Tahu's turn bonding is going to be pretty essential.

Going into public testing, I’d say increase the range of all Gali’s effects to 5 - allowing her more of a safety net away from opponents. Additionally I think a 20 point drop would be fine.

Sound like good changes, as long as she stays above Lewa. I like him thematically being the “youngest brother” of the group.

I do think her D20 booster will be massively helpful as long as Tahu keeps his Mr. Fantastic style swingy bonding.

Honestly I wouldn't really sweat point costs too much for the Toa until we get the whole team together. Seems like once we get to the last one we can shuffle some costs a bit of we feel the need too.
