Glider chooses Kadabra as her Rogue Duo partner.

Round 1: Mirror Master teleports Cold & Heat Wave to height in the middle of the board. Cold puts a wound on Daredevil while his frozen molecular field makes it impossible for the fighters to reach the Rogues.

Round 2: Daredevil wounds Blacksmith. Blacksmith disengages Daredevil, taking another wound, gets adjacent to Mirror Master then attacks Luke for 3 wounds. Daredevil is blocked by Blacksmith, then Mirror Master teleports himself, Cold, and Blacksmith away. Luke wounds Heat Wave. Kadabra wounds Luke. Daredevil kills Heat Wave then he and Luke wound Kadabra. Kadabra kills Heat Wave and Blacksmith wounds Wolverine.

Round 3: Wolverine moves up. Cold wounds Wolverine and Kadabra wounds Daredevil. Wolverine wounds Cold then Mirror Master teleports everyone away. Cold wounds Daredevil. Wolverine moves up. The Rogues are blocked.

Round 4: Daredevil kills Abra Kadabra. Cold and Blacksmith take out Daredevil. Wolverine puts 2 wounds on Cold then Mirror Master teleports them away. The Rogues put some wounds on Tigra. Wolverine moves up. Cold and Blacksmith each wound Wolverine.

Round 5: Wolverine kills Captain Cold. Golden Glider wounds Wolverine. Wolverine kills Blacksmith, then Mirror Master teleports to height near Golden Glider. (Lost OMs on Blacksmith.) Wolverine is blocked.

Rounds 6+: Really annoying long game as everyone rolled lots of shields and Wolverine kept healing his wounds. But Wolverine pretty easily wins this as the Rogues can’t deal more wounds than he heals.


Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Wolverine (1 wound) and Tigra (3 wounds) win.

Through the Mirror World is a very annoying power against an all-melee (except for Daredevil) non-flying army when combined with Captain Cold’s Frozen Molecular Aura. It was very hard to engage the Rogues consistently, as Mirror Master would just teleport them across the board and Blacksmith would activate a closer Rogue instead. But in this case the Rogues just didn’t have the firepower to deal with Wolverine’s healing ability in the endgame. In retrospect I should have gone after Wolverine first.

Going to take Through the Mirror World down to 8 spaces. It’s still going to be a powerful ability but that should reign in the annoyance a little. Wouldn’t have changed anything in my games so this is more future proofing for larger games/maps.

Round 1: The Rogues grab height very efficiently with Mirror Master teleporting Tar Pit and Magenta up. The Fan4 also advance, but Reed rolls a 1-4 twice so they don’t get far. Neither army wants to leave the safety of their allies to make the first strike.

Round 2: The Fan4 take out Weather Wizard and place 2 wounds on Rainbow Raider. The Rogues put two wounds on Reed, one on Thing, and two on Sue. Mirror Master didn’t do anything this round - he’s by Top & Magenta while Rainbow Raider and Tar Pit are screening.

Round 3: The Fan4 take out Tar Pit and Rainbow Raider. Top wounds Thing and Reed, but he has to engage Reed to do so, leaving Mirror Master’s protection. Johnny engages Top, Magenta, and Mirror Master - but doesn’t attack so he does not trigger Rogue Retreat. Thing one-shots Top, Invisible Woman doesn’t attack as to not trigger Rogue Retreat, then Reed engages Mirror Master to shut him down (unless Magenta throws Reed away). Magenta engages Invisible Woman but is blocked.

Round 4: Johnny flame on 4’s Mirror Master, then kills him with his normal attack. Reed puts a couple wounds on Magenta. Cold kills Sue and Magenta wounds Reed. Magenta throws Thing, then takes a wound from Johnny. The Rogues fail.

Round 5: Cold kills Reed. Johnny kills Magenta. Cold brings Johnny to 4 wounds, so he supernovas, but misses. Cold kills Johnny.

Round 6: Cold flash freezes Thing, then is blocked. Thing engages Cold and they duke it out. Cold can’t match Thing’s amount of dice.


Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Thing (3 wounds) wins.

Slaughter by the Fan4 initially, then the Rogues turned it around once they started getting kills. Mirror Master’s utility was limited by Captain Cold’s range limit and Mister Fantastic’s Rubber Wrap, but he still felt pretty good - he helped with setting up the pod to synergize Top, Weather Wizard, Magenta, and Tar Pit with Captain Cold’s double turns. Without Mirror Master it’s much harder to get everyone in the right place quickly enough.

Round 1: Mirror Master teleports Magenta and Girder to height, then both teams move up. Cyclops and Iceman take shots at Magenta from outside her magnetic throw defense range, so Mirror Master uses Rogue Retreat on just himself to engage Iceman, Beast, and Jean. Mirror Master eats a turn of attacks which lets the other Rogues move up and put some wounds on Iceman.

Round 2: Top uses Spinning Top to great effect, killing Cyclops and wounding Beast and Jean, then Girder kills Iceman. The X-Men put some wounds on Top. The Rogues then take out Beast. Jean takes out Top. Professor X blocks with psychic defense. Jean takes out Mirror Master.

Round 3: The Rogues take out Professor X and Girder gets thrown into water.

Round 4: Jean takes out Captain Boomerang. The Rogues can’t do much.

Round 5: Cold takes out Jean.

Round 6: The Rogues take out Angel.

Mirror Master used an unconventional strategy of using Rogue Retreat when an adjacent ally was attacked from range to move adjacent to the attacking figure, forcing them to either take disengagement strikes or deal with him. It worked pretty well as it allowed the Rogues (mainly Top and Girder) to unleash massive punishment on the X-Men.

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: Felt fun and distinct from Evan McCulloch’s Mirror Master. I like how he interacts with the Rogues - each game used a similar setup but ended up with a different strategy involving Mirror Master depending on who the opponents were. Sometimes he’s good for teleporting allies away, or simply blocking with 6 defense, or teleporting to engage the enemy himself. It’s a fun package though a little annoying for the opponent to deal with at times (which is fairly thematic for the character).

Balance-wise, he felt good at 160. 2 losses and 1 win so he’s probably about right. Didn't end up having a chance to use Soundwarp's kiting strategy as Mirror Master never survived to the endgame in my Captain Cold (II) games.

The drop to 8 spaces helps. He still seems pretty juiced compared to like Nightshade and most of the other teleporters, but I’m willing to see what testing shows

I do like the concept of kidnapping another teams lynchpin/leader unit. Pulling someone like Prof X away from his allies could be a game changer.
