Nor have you been this vocal about any of the other characters from what I can see, which I'm sure you've also played if you're apparently this invested in these characters. You're just hyper-fixated on this one bear because you don't like that they've changed the gender of them (which is completely inconsequential to the actual design you've been playing and is not related to anything the character does, which is the only aspect of said character you could directly interact with. I doubt you're that into the lore that you can recount what Haslab's tiny bio was for this one bear), and that they aren't stereotyped to be wearing pink and have big eyelashes because apparently a bear in some clothes is too "masculine" to be a female character.

You'd be shocked to learn that quite a few characters can have various aspects of them change during the development of a project.

Everyone other than those so obsessed with the idea that this character has to be male, like you, are either going to forget pretty quickly that this character was written slightly differently when a different team had the reins, or will never even know in the first place. And when these designs release and everyone is playing these instead of the Haslab placeholders, those still that attached will have to move on if they want to play with the majority of the playerbase.

Stop trying to mask your bigotry.

Maybe I'm biased because I've spent the last year of my life working with a customs project that treated the AOA content as canon and even printed and painted my own Oberon proxy- but I think there's an attitude among some here that because they weren't attached to something, nobody should be attached to that thing- and to say that anyone who was attached to that thing is now a bigot is kind of bizarre.

I don't doubt that those bigoted mindsets exist, but it seems unreasonable to present everybody on one side of the argument as having that mindset.

Speaking anecdotally... I would be cool with more female additions to the Combine in general- I would just like those changes to be additive in nature. In regards to your comic book analogy- I am really glad to see Miles Morales, Cindy Moon, and Gwen Stacy get more of the spotlight in Spider-Man books, and I have no real objection to Miles being referred to as Spider-Man. I would feel kind of weird about a Marvel book that decided that 616 Peter Parker is actually Paula Parker.

I find the unit titles mildly annoying too, but I think the intent of them is good. It just feels like the designer or producer is trying to breathe some life into the units. Like a bite size bio that lives on the card. To me a good solution could be reducing the font size or visual emphasis of the title part and putting it on a separate line so as to treat it more as flavor text.

Ability texts do use just the name without the title plenty of times. The most consistent I've seen is using the full title the first time they are referenced in an ability text, then just name from then on, business style.


But I think Xeni is never referenced as the Vineweaver in ability text.

In some cases, yes. But titles of the specific form "Myname the WhatIam" consistently used only Myname and omitted "the WhatIam" entirely in all power texts. The Kyrie Warriors (Atlaga, Concan, Kelda, both Raelins, Saylind, and Taelord), the Viking Champions (Eldgrim, Finn, and Thorgrim), Khosumet the Darklord, and Nerak the Glacian Swog Rider all used only the short form on every power with 100% consistency, at least during the years Hasbro was in control.

Of course, attention to detail began to decline in multiple areas once WotC became in charge, and this wording convention was one of those areas. They got it right on Othkurik the Black Dragon, but chaotically wrong on Kurrok the Elementalist. C3V/SoV also got it right on Calibrax, Pel, and Tyrian, but are too wordy on Azazel, Cal, Cormin, Corvor, Elaria, and Viceron. Renegade gets it right only on Xenithrax, and wrong on all the others: Dorim, Fia Bonny, Kita, Loviatäk, Misaerx, and Raelin. (Onshu is neither right nor wrong because his powers don't reference his name.)

Due to the original's inconsistency, VC came up with our own standard a couple years ago. Spell it out on the first appearance, then use the shortened version after that. Special exceptions can be made, such as when there's a lot of text and we need to cut down on words.

Thrilling news. I've nostalgic pangs of excitement. I preloaded everything with Renegade, but later couldn't justify buying and not really playing it much, so I cancelled. However, watching YT channels like Sir Heroscape, DogginDays, Tales of Valhalla, Rangers of the East, and RyGuy* has got me thrilled to pick up the new sets. I'll probably pre-order the pre-painted master set and battle box, and pick up a couple of Laur's Edge with Game Nerdz. Exciting times, Scapers.
