Re: TV: What Are You Watching?
!!!
Totally into it. It is not, however, for the children. As most of you knew already, I'm sure. Was Man in the High Castle based on a Philip K. Dick thing? I've read a bunch of his stories. My sense is that he was far more influential than people recall. Good stuff. |

Yes it is DS, and I find it to be really good.

A lot of folks have never heard of PKD but he has influenced quite a few films/shows.

Watching AMC's Into the Badlands. So far after 2 episodes, I really like it. Lots of great martial arts stuff going on.

Re: TV: What Are You Watching?
Have any of you seen the pilot for SyFy's "The Expanse"? It's on YouTube (of all places). I'm sure the rest of the series will make its way to Netflix, but for now, as far as I know, it is airing on SyFy. I watched some of it with my dad--looks pretty good!

Re: TV: What Are You Watching?
The visual effects are impressive. I was tired and was nodding off during the last half of it, so I'm not the best to talk about the story, but I liked what I saw.

Jessica Jones, to go along with everything I listed before.

In fact, as much as I loved DD and thought it was totally awesome, I think JJ was even better overall, and that's saying something. Re: TV: What Are You Watching?
I'm not sure where I would rank the two, both were very good but are quite different types of shows. Kilgrave was the more terrifying villain, but that does not necessarily mean he was better then Kingpin. We saw DD just getting started as a Super Hero, while they pretty much skipped JJ starting out phase except for those few flashbacks. So she was a much different place in her career. DD was more traditional Super Hero crime fighting where JJ was not crime fighting at all. I think in the end I would give DD a slight edge.

Watching Thursday Night Football.
C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

Re: TV: What Are You Watching?
I think the differences for me that gave JJ the slight edge were:
Killgrave was a character that I might not think much of in a comic, but in this show, he was so incredibly terrifying. It added a little horror aspect that I think translated masterfully on screen. I liked the dirty/gritty building/apartment/office that Jessica lived in. All too often on TV or movies, struggling characters still seem to live in a clean little apartment setting. The setting in JJ seemed real. I also loved the other characters in her building. While there were great characters in DD, I think there were more great characters in JJ that added to the whole experience for me. Another thing perhaps, is that I knew the DD story, and it was done brilliantly. I didn't know much about JJ or Killgrave, so it was all new to me. As a bonus, I loved the amount of time Luke Cage got, as well as being surprised about Hellcat being in there, though not as Hellcat yet. Great show though, I personally enjoyed DD a bit more, but I'm a sucker for really well choreographed fight scenes, and DD had one in almost ever episode. And although I think Tenant knocks it out of the park as Purple Man, I thought D'Onofrio as Fisk was incredible and much more relate able a villain, which I personally prefer to the super powerful crafty villain of Killgrave. |
