Re: Players who got hooked through Marvelscape.

My Heroscory [sic]:

Was at a retreat around 2004 and someone said a few people were playing a nerdy game. Checked it out, though it was cool and nerdy at same time, but did not play since I never played RPG or strategy game other than Risk or Stratego and because I didn't want to be associated as a "Gamer". Anyway, did not even remember the name of the game till later and decided not for me.

Late 2005, roomate got job at ToysRUs and bought Master Set 1 on company discount. I played it and liked it, and actually got real into building maps for it, but still did not want to buy own set for fear of being "Gamer"

He mentioned Marvel Version was coming out, so I thought "That can't be too nerdy to play with Superhroes" (I know it defies logic) and bought Marvel Set using his company discount. I wanted more land, so also bought Lava set at same time. Soon bought an oversized Batman and Superman action figure on clearance and made hand made cards of Bat & Sup and was a custom Hero junkie from then on.

Later I bought Marro set for land and figures as more of friends played with official characters. I also bought HeroClix figures and designed my own Marvel customs, however it was harder to find anyone I knew willing to play comic heroes as many friends all bought the expansions and feel comic heroes are too powerful. Now am hooked on playing non-comic 'scape, buy expansions, and visit this site a lot.

So I guess I started playing official set, "got hooked" through Marvelsacepe, and am now hooked on normal Heroscape. Put me in the YES list.

Re: Players who got hooked through Marvelscape.

I got into Heroscape as a result of the Marvel release.

I was a hard-core Heroclix player and Judge from 2002-2007. Once marvel HS came out, I bought it myself and tried it. Picked up a Master set after for more terrain and tried out the classic HS figures.

Now I'm up to 4 master sets, 2 marrow sets, 4 of each expansion, 3 of each common unit and 1 of rach unique pack.

The one thing I don't get is that there seems to be (with certain members of these forums) an elitist fueled hatred for Marvel HS. Wouldn't it just increase interest for classic HS?

Did you know Samuel L. Jackson was in Jaws? VVVVVV

You can add me too! Marvel was my first set and is still the one that sees the most play because I play my 5-year-old son.

I tried that for a while myself. She was good for about 20 minutes and then would slowly.......but surely........start.........to become..........distracted.

Heroscape is a gateway into a wonderful world of games that I never would've known existed otherwise.

That's always been my thinking. Getting numbers and stories from other members to back it up is the whole reason this thread exists, so thanks for sharing.

Re: Players who got hooked through Marvelscape.

Sorry to reply so late. Actually I've sunk a bunch of money into Scape. (Since I quit playing MTG, I didn't know what to do with all my money.) Stubobj got me interested in it. So I've collected all but: Greeks and Vipers, Soulborgs and Elves, Heroes of Trollsford, and of course most all of the exclusive characters.

Hopefully you paid for most of that by selling your Magic cards.

Re: Players who got hooked through Marvelscape.

No, I just quit buying them, 300 to 400 dollars per deck is just too much to stay competitive.

DarkJawa Woo who?
Re: Players who got hooked through Marvelscape.

Well the Marvel set brought me BACK to Heroscape. I played when RoTV first came out, but lack of people to play with made me stop. But a few months ago when I saw the Marvel set at my local Walmart for $10 I simply could not resist. Needless to say I have picked up Master Set 2 and many boosters since. I also taught my daughter the game, again thanks to the Marvel characters she recognizes. I also picked up a 2nd Marvel set for $10 and gave it away as 1st place prize for a tournament I ran during Pokemon League. So I have introduced a few others to the game through Marvel.

Re: Players who got hooked through Marvelscape.

Coming back to the game through Marvelscape certainly counts in my book. Also, good job using it to introduce others to the game! Welcome aboard, DarkJawa! You too, boodog!
