Adult language area
I've noticed that on this site, there is a strong drive to keep the site family friendly, which is fine. I usually do not swear while on this site or any others, but was wondering if it ever came up that there would be a mature audience area? I'm not talking about talking about adult situations, just wondering if there was an area with casual swearing or the such. I'm on BGG.com and it seems that they are more relaxed with the occasional dirty word and such. If not, no worries, just interested.

Re: Adult language area
I do not believe there is any area like that on this site, or that there ever will be.
I love this site for the overall sense of community, it's good posting habits and generally proper spelling and grammar. And I love the fact that there isn't casual swearing and is fine for many to view, and that young children aren't seeing foul language. So...while I'm not in any form in charge or sure of this, I would be quite shocked to see or know of some area of the site where it would be allowed. We can all get our thoughts out without issue right now, so no problem, no fix needed. |

Re: Adult language area
If there were to be such an area, how would it be guaranteed that those who shouldn't be seeing that kind of language don't simply click on the thread and read it?
Don't think of it as being outnumbered. Think of it as having a wide shot selection! Scaper of the Week #17 How to get to Skyknight's house: Drive to the red light, then call him. |

Doug:
BGG doesn't have a language policy, but if you do use foul language, expect the puritanical morons to come out and berate you heavily. Which is fun all in its own right. Try FortressAT.com. Re: Adult language area
If we really wantedd it, it could be a group like the kids/teen, CoN/games, or C3V/G sanctums, that would either be by admin approval only or open to anyone but just have a disclaimer before adding.
However, I really don't see much point. Usually I do not see R rated movies because usually swearing, sex, and gore are a sad excuse for actual artistic contribution, however I do allow acceptions where these things add to plot or make it more realistic. I rarely see how swearing or off-color humor, or R rated customs adds to this site, but there may be some exeptions such as more adult customs (not porn, but maybe from sin city or succubuses, etc.). I wouldn't like them but some might and I could see a seporate forum for it. But that would mean a change to the forum rules, and truth at el would have to OK. Re: Adult language area
The reason it had been brought up in the past was to have a place where the adults could discuss thing they didnt necessarily want the kids chiming in on more-so than a place to curse and tell dirty jokes.
Like... The Hangout was created so the adults didnt have to hear about all the kids teenage angst and how much they love Justin Beiber and stuff like that. |

Re: Adult language area
I have a question. Digging around in the forums/threads, I seem to come across a significant amount of people who have been banned. Is this generally due to swearing, or does anyone know? I don't particularly mind if we have an adult area or not, but I am curious as to why there were so many bans in the past. Thanks.

Re: Adult language area
It isn't for swearing.
To make an omelet you have to break some eggs; sometimes the eggs are bad and have to be completely thrown out. Each case of being banned is unique unto itself so it wouldn't be easy to answer your question, even if the admins felt inclined to do so. I am confident that they were all for good reasons and, when applicable, they were given warnings and temp bans before getting the permanent ban.
