Re: Magic: the Gathering Strategy Board Game
Griz,
And I stick to my own guns, which I've mentioned in many previous posts in this thread and on bgg. I agree with most of the first players of the game so far. Magic Arena IS Heroscape. CVN gave us a present, and we should unwrap it...rather than be ungrateful. But hey, to each his own. |

Re: Magic: the Gathering Strategy Board Game
If we don't create space for those conversations, they surely won't happen. With all due respect to Grish, this is heroscape 2.0, in a way that even Battleship Galaxies was not. I'd like to see the space created, and the only bad outcome I can envision is that it goes unused.
Don't think of it as mission drift. Think of it as growth. |

Re: Magic: the Gathering Strategy Board Game
I think, for me, if people are playing MtG:AotP, I would want them to come here for ideas, strategies and customs. I believe that our site is uniquely situated to offer insight, excitement, analysis and customization. We wouldn't need to "reinvent the wheel" as it were. Discussions of whether life is more important than defense, or how often an attack of 3 will inflict a wound against various defenses or how to calculate threat range have already been done and can be summarized and linked in a new section.
If a game legitimately has lots of links into the Official Classic HeroScape section of the site, why in the world isn't it appropriate to have as a separate game given equal status to the other offshoots already here? ~Aldin, with concepts coalescing He either fears his fate too much or his desserts are small That dares not put it to the touch to gain or lose it all ~James Graham |

Re: Magic: the Gathering Strategy Board Game
Griz, if people were talking about HeroQuest and BattleMasters as much as people will be talking about this game, they just might have gotten their own subforums. But people are not talking about those games more than in whatever handful of extant threads already exist for them, so there is no need for a subforum for them.

Re: Magic: the Gathering Strategy Board Game
At this point, I think the Arena system is as closely related to Heroscape as C3G is and, sooner or later, HoSS will be. Children and nieces and nephews of the core system.
But I agree with the prospects of a "shot in the arm" for the community. The more eyes we can get on the forum the better, and Arena has put Heroscape back into the gaming lexicon for the first time in years. The more the merrier is my philosophy. JOHNNY139'S CLASSIC CUSTOM THREAD! | Visit now!

Based on the general tone of what's being said here it seems that my point is being lost. A game comes along that is not compatible with Heroscape and suddenly we are elevating it up to the same high standards we put on Heroscape. I feel that if we are to remain true to what this site is, and our identity as a Heroscape site, then we should not elevate this new game to those same heights. Again. Create a space for it. Absolutely. Discuss it all you want. All I ask is that the moderators consider placing it in the correct forum on our Heroscape site, under Off-Topic > Other Games. I'm worried that it's not so much growth as it is diluting the Heroscape brand. And the mission of this site. My Custom Terrain Thread: http://www.heroscapers.com/community...read.php?t=448 |

Let me put it another way: Following the discontinuation of the official line, @Grungebob said that we were entering the era of FanScape. It was, I understood him to be saying, up to the community of fans to carry the torch for a while. Because I love the game and this community, I took it upon myself to do my part. I look at what I'm reading about this new game, and I watch the videos aboutit, and I think to myself: "We made it. We carried the torch to the next era." I don't know what the future holds and I intend to keep working in the C3V, but to my eyes this is so much like Heroscape that the burden of us carrying the torch is now being shared by something else, which is carrying the torch in a different way. That's how close I see them. edit: And it goes without saying that such a subforum would not be nested in the "Official Scape" subforum. I can't imagine they're considering that. |

Re: Magic: the Gathering Strategy Board Game
I'm already seeing a couple forums for Arena of the Planeswalkers pop up.
I like Heroscape. Still play it. Would still visit this site to discuss Heroscape, if the urge ever hit. This site, for me, is mostly relevant as a place to find discontinued product. It would be great to see planeswalker arena discussed here. Its an established forum with an established user base. This is your sole chance, barring Hasbro actually bringing Heroscape back officially, to get an influx of users to discuss and play Heroscape simply because of proximity to this new game. I'm fine going elsewhere to discuss it. If its presence causes the user base here to feel such physical pain that they feel the need to take the time to voice how the game gives original Heroscape cancer or what not, then may as well not force them to read a new subforum that contains such toxicity. |
