In all honesty, Squirrel Girl's a memetic badass joke character - I think we should erase the word 'sensible' from our vocabularies for the purposes of this design if we desire to remain close to the source material (except for the purposes of actual game balance, of course).


I'm not too familiar with actual examples, not really having played games where it comes up, but I stumbled across the term 'Lethal Joke Character' a while ago - I wonder if that's the sort of thing we should be striving to achieve with Squirrel Girl? It feels appropriate.

It's been a while since I read any of the older stuff she's in, but I think her characterization has been pretty inconsistent from one writer to the next. She's never been a totally serious character, but I think there's some wiggle room when it comes to how hard you want to lean on the joke character aspect.

Squirrels can be pretty damn fast, and that doesn't sound from the looks of it as though it's thematic to how she uses them.

I'm also having trouble figuring out where this is headed. To be fair, I came into the thread a bit late, but it feels like we've been running around in circles about the use of squirrel markers.

I think the version of the Special Attack in the SP is the most thematic right now. Squirrels are one die each, which compounds when you have a bunch of them. Where I see the speed bump is more that it's really difficult to obtain Squirrel Markers without putting Squirrel Girl right into a very vulnerable position. Would a bump to obtaining numerous Markers per Leap help?
