I really suspect Self-Importance is probably a better fit here. Looks like he decided he knows a better way in the heat of the moment than plans from the beginning to “take a different path”.

Also not sure “battle hardened” is the best choice, seeing as he famously died in his first battle.

I think I’d go with Self Importance 16 and something like:

WARRIOR’S PRIDE
If Thunderbird is within 5 clear sight spaces of his Prey, subtract 6 from his Self-Importance rolls. When Thunderbird takes a turn with Self-Importance, he adds 2 to his Attack number this turn.

He’d still be obnoxious, but at least the power triggers more often when he’s near his Prey and gets a big attack that is doubled by BGH.

The problem with Self-Interest here is that is boosts a movement power which he doesn’t have. We could take a page from some of the looser Superspeed stuff and say it boosts his BGH move for the rest of the round.

Thunderbird died in his second battle. He survived the initial excursion to save the others at Krakoa, the living island, but died fighting Count Nefaria and his Ani-men. And he didn't just die in the fight though, he jumped about a jet and died when it exploded.

On the design, the powers look good, but his stats should be higher. He is an Apache Superman, with superhuman senses, strength, speed, sturdiness, and stamina. I think it was an ironic, intentional twist that the most obviously powerful new X-Man died on his second mission.

EDIT: wanted to check before I posted, but he was definitely a Soldier. Served in Vietnam, came home and felt he was wasting his life. Joined the X-Men to find a purpose again. He'll be an interesting one with Mutant and Soldier synergies.

Just had a thought, what if his Defense went up and his Life went way down. Then he would have that feeling of being able to be one-shot, which feels right for his storyline, but still feels powerful. Maybe Life 4, Defense 6? or Even Life 3, Defense 7?

Thanks for the info Spidey! I knew he was a marine but almost felt like him being an Apache Warrior was a little more iconic but I'd be fine with Soldier.

As to the Stats, I could see going that route. Which Stats in particular were you thinking of? Attack? Clearly you were thinking defense.

Having his health below normal human standards feels wrong to me.

Just an idea, but what about doing a sort of reverse Battle Hardened?

If there is at least 1 Wound Marker on this card, add 1 to Thunderbird's attack number and subtract 1 from his defense number.

Not a bad suggestion, but I'd want high life with that kind of a power. His powers are basically the same as Warpath's so I went a similar route with him.

BIG GAME TRACKER
At the start of the game, you may choose one opponent's Unique or Event Hero to be Thunderbird's Prey. When a numbered Order Marker is revealed on the Prey's card, you may immediately move Thunderbird up to 3 spaces. When moving with Big Game Tracker, Thunderbird is never attacked when leaving engagements. If Thunderbird attacks his Prey, he may attack his Prey one additional time.

HEADSTRONG
You may not take a turn with Thunderbird unless there is at least one Order Marker on this card. You may not use any special power to move Order Markers to or from this card.

TOUGH
When rolling defense dice against a normal attack, Thunderbird always adds 1 automatic shield to whatever is rolled.

I'm thinking this is probably the best route here. It's a bit simpler now too.

it so that he is difficult to run in those builds. He tends to go his own way despite what others tell him and that is what ultimately gets him killed.

Yea, I considered 5, but wasn't too sure which way to go. Thinking about it more, 5 might be better.
