Spoiler Alert!

Teddy lead out as a screen here, thinking that he could waste the Mutants' time while Star-Lord and Nebula moved up. Best-case scenario, he deals some damage. Worst-case scenario, he does nothing, but triggers a couple bonding turns for Nebula to help move her up. Oracle guarantees OM safety.

Teddy got dropped just across the river, on low ground, but he managed to clamber up to height while Star-Lord moved up and got into attack-boosting range. Teddy did okay for himself, no-selling a couple attacks and dealing 1 wound of his own, until Jean managed to pull him off height and out of Star-Lord range. At that point, the Mutants worked him over pretty well.

Still, he kept the X-Men busy for a few turns, which isn't nothing for a figure as cheap as he is. Star-Lord picked off Jean right after Teddy went down, setting the Guardians up for the win.

Unit Summary:

• Damage Done (Normal Attack): 1 wound to Jean in 1 attack, 0 wounds to Jubilee in 1 attack
• Dog-Vulture: started midway up the battlefield, just across the river
• Fire Weakness: didn't come up

Kept the match-up the same, but changed the map.

Teddy dropped in the middle of the map. The Guardians won initiative and Teddy got the first turn of the game. He took a pot-shot at Jubilee and rolled 3 skulls, plus an auto-skull from Oracle that proved unnecessary: Rover absorbed all 4 wounds it would have dealt (and 3 would have been enough to destroy him). OHKO on a 160-point figure. Nice.

That was all Teddy accomplished before the X-Men mobbed him and took him out in a couple turns, but not a bad deal at all. Star-Lord took the high ground while Teddy was getting mauled. This time Scott went down before Jean, but the end result was similar.

Unit Summary:

• Damage Done (Normal Attack): would have dealt 4 wounds to Jubilee, but they were absorbed by Rover, destroying him
• Dog-Vulture: started mid-map

THOUGHTS ON THE TESTED UNIT'S COST, BALANCE, & DRAFTABILITY: 100 might be a little low. He feels pretty golden as filler, so long as you're not playing on a lava map.

There's no real quick way for the enemy to deal with him. I think if I ran one more game, I'd try to have Jean throw him out of the way and just ignore him, then circle back in the endgame (hopefully). I didn't err on the side of that strategy because I wanted to be able to actually rack up some wounds on him and hit him while I had some bonding intact, instead of getting into a situation where I had just one X-Man left to take him on. Didn't relish the odds of getting through his defensive power with one attack a turn.

Sounds like averaging to around 100 is the right call here.

Did we ever get a CRB review here? He felt very strong to me. Great defensive power for the cost, and the stats aren't bad either.

Wouldn't mind that at all - I remember a few times I've had 105 points left and taken Dagger simply because she was the only character who fit. Wouldn't hurt at all to have a second option.

I like him better at 100 for an easy add to army builds. Since I generally build in point blocks I don't often have a '5' hole to fill, and this guy seems very much like a filler character with his low cost and lack of strong synergy, but universally good power set. Since he just has the one very small comic appearance, I also don't feel we know enough about him to say he has a pattern of being prickly, hard to work with, rude, odd, etc. and those are often the thematic reasons why we have someone in a '5' when they are not being paired up with another '5' character. The Outcast class already covers his outsider status, he might be a great teammate/ally/friend among the other outcasts though.

I’d like to see a test with Robot and one with Blue Beetle (Ted) at some point. Those seem like his best builds. With Robot you can use him as a tie down figure without giving up hardly any efficiency, and he makes a great ‘drop zone’ for Ted to get off a first strike.
