Acute Lackoreposis! The new debilitating disease that occurs when one has a deficit in rep. I started this thread to educate the populace about the disease, what to do if you get it, and what you can do to prevent it.

AL (Acute Lackoreposis), is a debilitating disease that affects the mind usually brought upon by the lack of positive rep. More than 50 members a day are infected with this disease and it is estimated that the numbers will increase dramatically over the next few months. Although there is no known cure for the disease, therapies exist that reduce the symptoms of AL and can increase the longevity of a rational mind in some patients.

How is it contracted?
Like most diseases of the mind, AL is usually brought upon by the host. A long period of stagnant rep booning or a lack of rep altogether can wear on the mind. Someone who craves rep at an unhealthy level is also in danger of getting the disease. Pride is a known factor when finding the causes of AL. Soon the victim will start resorting to begging or pleading for rep, creating useless threads like this one in order to receive more rep, or complain about the rep system in general because of its lack of support for the infected individual. However the contraction the victim will soon find him/herself going mad with anger (pun intended), much to the displeasure of regular members.

What are the symptoms?
As stated above, AL can bring upon many symptoms. Whether or not these symptoms are brought upon by the disease itself or they are simply the precursor to getting the disease is questionable, but the evidence goes across the board: People who display these symptoms are likely to already have, or soon contract, AL. If you show any of the following symptoms contact your local admin immediately.
Symptoms include:
The starting of useless threads in order to gain rep
The Begging or pleading for rep
Hair growth on soles of feet
The Complaining about the rep system because of its apparent hatred for you
Spontaneous Combustion
Loss of loving emotions and an assimilation into a Hive Mind
The negative repping of members as a retaliation to a comment or previous negative rep
The growing of a frullet (female mullet)
Evil eye
Runny nose

What is it?
There are many ways one can combat AL: One is to understand that the rep system is on-the-whole pointless and in no way an actual statement of one’s worth. Another way to combat AL is to actually receive positive rep from someone. This can sometimes work, but on occasion can tend to exacerbate the problem. One of the more useful methods of combating AL is giving positive rep to others. This method of treatment follows the Golden Rule that states: Do unto others, as you would have others do unto you. If you would like to receive positive rep, then simply give positive rep to other people. Most of the time this will result (but is not mandatory), in more positive rep boons in the future as other people will want to congratulate you more. An even more useful treatment is to think before acting. AL preys upon victims that speak before thinking, create threads before searching, and rep dock before PMing.


Personal Pedestal
If you haven’t guessed yet I too suffer from AL. I am part of the rare population that has a lot of rep but still contracts the disease. I believe it was brought upon from being an older member of the website around the time of 300 B.R. (Before Rep) Many old threads that were created long ago did not get rep and the authors of those threads were found to be susceptible to AL. The first symptoms of AL probably manifested around that time, but because of a lack of viral awareness and the ignorance of rep therein, I was unable to combat the disease before it transformed into its present state.

The flux of rep given to me in the past has helped to decrease the debilitating effects of the disease, but it won't last. More research is going into finding a cure for AL, but resources are limited. One cannot be sure if a massive rep boon in a victim’s favor will help or hurt the victim, but the study should be done to check. As I write about this researchers at the University of Jandar in Wellspring, Ticalla are hard at work to find the cure. They have already started a study to find out if booning people helps people combat AL.


The Future and what you can do
If you would like to participate in the study feel free to express your concerns and support for AL Awareness. AL Awareness Bracelets will be on sale soon at your local hospital. If one wears a bracelet they are commited to the spreading of good and honest positive rep for the benefit of others. One can only hope members of this community will wear their A.L. Awareness Bracelets proud and do the right thing to save those that are less fortunate.

Fine Print: This disease has has not been identified by the FDA and new study results are pending.


ps: I'm sorry, but I couldn't help myself. Severe boredom at work combined with a positive response to my first post about AL led me to writing this. Whether this thread belongs in the Fan art fiction or this section of Heroscapers I am not sure. Tis a silly thing. I hope people will get a laugh out of this and possibly learn soemthing at the same time. Sometimes I believe people will really bring on some horrible disease in their mind caused by the "frustrations" of not having enough rep. At least it sure seems that way. Happy 'Scaping!
