Re: The Book of Wildcat (Design Phase)

My grandfather was a professional boxer and my dad an amateur boxer so boxing has been in my family and this set feels like a boxer... THE OL' ONE-TWO feels like they sold out to block the jab to the face and got caught un-gaurded with the hook to the body. ROPE-A-DOPE feels like he let them take a shot and they overextend thinking they have him on the ropes and he catches them with an unexpected uppercut..... Would I want it to be everything I love...sure...but that's just not realistic so I'm going to focus on finding things that will make me unhappy and work on fixing those. |

Really liking 'The Ol' One Two' and 'Rope-A-Dope' now. Not really a fan of this version of Fight Coach: Quote:
Feels finnicky to use, non-factional and a bit dull. I'm much more of a fan of of these: FANCY FOOTWORK After Wildcat, or any Protege or Mystery Man you control within 4 clear sight spaces of Wildcat, rolls defense dice verse an adjacent attack, you may immedietly move the defending figure 2 spaces. Figures moved with Fancy Footwork do not take leaving engagement attacks. FIGHT COACH Crime Fighters and Fighters you control roll one additional die against figures leaving engagement from them. If a Crime Fighter or Fighter you control receives a wound when leaving an engagement, they may move one additional space and may count one blank as a skull when attacking this turn. FIGHT COACH Whenever a Crime Fighter or Fighter you control ends its movement engaged with an opponent's figure, if it was engaged with that figure for its entire movement, it was count up to two blanks rolled as skulls when attacking that figure this turn. FIGHT COACH Crime Fighters and Fighters you control with unrevealed Order Markers on their Army Cards may roll one additional die against figures leaving an engagement with them. Crime Fighters and Fighters you control with only revealed Order Markers on their Army Cards never take leaving engagement attacks and may move one space after attacking an opponent's figure they are engaged with. |

Re: The Book of Wildcat (Design Phase)
I might up the aura range on Margloth's version of Fight Coach, and reintroduce the factional aspect, but I dig that.
Or maybe, rather than going tight factional, restrict it to figures with no SS. |

Re: The Book of Wildcat (Design Phase)
Cool.
You got some quality athlete genetics there japes. Really digging the creativity on the boxing angle. Street Fighter has a boxer as well, correct? May be able to re-use some of these ideas there. |

Nice background Japes! That's great knowledge! I really appreciate all the ideas spinning about here. Later today, I'll weigh them all and see what I can come up with for a direction. Like Superheroes and Comics?

Re: The Book of Wildcat (Design Phase)
Oooh... this could be neat... what if you loaded him up with 3 special attacks/single combat powers and then put this:
FIGHT COACH If Wildcat is unengaged, any figure within [X] spaces with [yada yada class restrictions] may use any other special power or attack on this card. When the special power or attack refers to Wildcat, it refers to the affected figure instead. |

Re: The Book of Wildcat (Design Phase)
I like the no SS restriction idea, combined with a melee attack only improved attack roll concept instead of attack boost. Would be pretty wide ranging as to who he can coach up, while not running into anything too crazy.

My brother being really into martial arts helped in coming up with Breaking Balance on Splinter - real world context is always helpful!

Re: The Book of Wildcat (Design Phase)
So how closely is he really tied to the Mystery Men and Protege's? I really only know him form the Arrow show where he trains Black Canary after Oliver refuses too. In the comics was he an old timer by then and as a young man had a long career with the Mystery Men? I ask because I noticed that we don't have any DC Fighters, just Marvel and a few Street Fighter guys. As a boxer, I kind of feel like he could be the first DC Fighter in C3G.

Re: The Book of Wildcat (Design Phase)
He should definitely be a Mystery Man. The Arrow version was kind of a departure. Comics version is very closely tied with the JSA.

Re: The Book of Wildcat (Design Phase)
Alright everybody, here is the direction I would like to take this in.
NAME = WILDCAT SECRET IDENTITY = TED GRANT SPECIES = METAHUMAN UNIQUENESS = UNIQUE HERO CLASS = MYSTERY MAN PERSONALITY = FIERCE SIZE/HEIGHT = MEDIUM 5 LIFE = 9 MOVE = 5 RANGE = 1 ATTACK = 5 DEFENSE = 3 POINTS = 230 FIGHT COACH While Wildcat is unengaged, adjacent friendly figures without the Super Strength special power may re-roll any blanks rolled when attacking an adjacent figure. Crime Fighters and Fighters within 3 clear sight spaces of Wildcat are affected by Fight Coach. THE OL' ONE-TWO If Wildcat does not inflict one or more wounds when attacking an opponent's adjacent figure with his normal attack, Wildcat may attack that figure one additional time, rolling 2 attack dice. The chosen figure cannot roll any defense dice against this additional attack. ROPE-A-DOPE If Wildcat defends against an adjacent normal attack and does not receive a wound, you may roll an unblockable attack die against the attacking figure. He definitely belongs with the Mystery Men. He's an original JSA member through-and-through. I combined the suggestions for Fight Coach into the version presented here, and I really like it. He can train up anybody without Super Strength, but Fighters and Crime Fighters get a nice bonus of 2 extra range on the boost. Rope-A-Dope feels really strong, but with just 3 defense, he won't get to use it an overwhelming amount. I'm very excited about this direction. Being a Mystery Man allows him to belong in JSA armies, but his outgoing synergy, however small, gives him viability within Fighter and Crime Fighter builds. There is still a day left on breathing for this guy, so I would love feedback on this version before proposing for an Initial. Best shine the CRB-Signal now as well. @dok ; @Dysole ; @Soundwarp SG-1 ; @weebaer Like Superheroes and Comics?
