Re: The C3G Cave - Hangout

Yeah, there was more than one person killed for sure, just like there were people killed in the battle of New York, and in Winter Soldier. Lots of collateral damage.

I feel safe assuming that intellectually. But I didn't feel it in the moment of watching the film in the way they handled it, which makes that line feel unearned to me.

C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

Re: The C3G Cave - Hangout

Age of Ultron in general was a hundred amazing ideas that came together to make a single subpar film. There's so much that I want to love about it - the Twins, Vision, the Hulkbuster fight, Tony's characterization, Hawkeye and family, the party scene, the whole "battle on a city falling from the sky" setpiece...

In theory it's super cool. In practice, though, it's a mess. I enjoyed it a lot - I'd put it in or near my five favorite MCU films, actually - but I think, like so many ambitious superhero movies, it's an example of "more" not equaling "better."

And boy, the stuff they missed the mark on (Ultron's jokes, the sense of danger, the Thor scenes, the Banner/Widow romance...) is absolutely glaring.

Re: The C3G Cave - Hangout

Yeah, that's a spot on take, especially the first sentence.

Honestly I even dug some of ULTRON's jokes, he just needed more active menace to juxtapose with it. I didn't mind the Banner/Widow romance at all, or the Thor scenes, but the lack of sense of danger was hugely problematic for me.

C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

Exactly how I feel about it.

For me, Cap 1 & 2, Guardians, Avengers, and Iron Man make up my top 5. AoU would probably be right there at #6 though, if not just narrowly edging out Iron Man at #5 if I'm being generous.

True, they didn't show the effects/aftermath of that battle in the movie, but they didn't in others like the Avengers, yet The Battle of New York is referenced elsewhere later on like it was a big deal. Perhaps there will be more discussion about the aftermathof the battle during Age of Ultron in Civil war to make that line more relevant.

Re: The C3G Cave - Hangout

That's true on the Battle of New York too. There they mostly ignored civilians, though, whereas in Ultron they seemed to go out of their way to show the heroes rescuing everyone in sight. And the Battle of New York was important for the premise of some shows (like Agents of SHIELD) but I don't think it was really referenced in the movies again, whereas this one seems to be a big part of a big movie.

It's all good, though. I don't anticipate it affecting my enjoyment of Civil War any. Just a missed opportunity to do things a bit better, IMO.

C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

Re: The C3G Cave - Hangout

I think the new laws for superheroes are called the Sokovia Accords, so AoU will definitely have an impact on the future of the MCU. I think once we have seen phase three AoU will shine more. It is full of connective tissue that we don't have a connection for yet. Ant-Man is the only MCU movie to come out since AoU and they clearly wanted the focus to be on the new hero, not the meta-worldbuilding stuff.

Age of Ultron didn't quite hit the mark for me (for a lot of the reasons you guys are talking about), but I actually really did like that take on Ultron. Shame that Marvel doesn't seem to want to reuse villains not named Loki.

Give them long enough and they might have to. Ultron could come back by controlling Vision from the future like in the AoU comic.

I felt Ultron was done better in the Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes animated show than in the live action movie. I always pictures Ultron as fighting a sentient computer virus, where, even if you beat him up, he'd just poof somewhere else, and he always had a contingency plan if he was defeated. But I'm the movie, the just punched him a lot until he didn't get up again, not at all what I imagined.

I do have high hopes for civil war though, I was a big fan of the last Captain America movie, and the first trailer really sold me.

Well, the Battle of New York was specifically stated to be the reason for Stark's panic attacks in Iron Man 3.

Yep, I think there was a lot there that was laying the foundation for future changes.

Glad I'm not the only one who liked Ultron! Honestly, I think he's been the best Marvel villain so far, except for Loki.
