Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?
Nice list Chas.
Edit: Played 2P solo Abyss to get familiar with it to demo at a Con in April. Cool, light game with beautiful art. Also have to demo, Kaosball, Thunderstone Advance, City of Remnants, Run Fight or Die and Rivet Wars. I guess I got bounced from demoing Splendor and Sheriff of Nottingham, as they were probably given to some girls doing some demoing there and wanting some lighter games to do. I have Kasosball and City of Remants, but just have to refresh on the rules. I have the Thunderstone (first 4 releases), so Advance should be easy since it's not that different. Never played Run Fight or Die, nor Rivet Wars, but the guy running the games part of the Con will be getting us the demo games after Adepticon next week. He already got me Abyss and Thunderstone Advance. 4 of us in my game group are going up and each have 6 games to demo, or at least be ready to demo 6 different games each. Edit again: Just finished a game of A Fistful of Dinero. It's a fun and quick western type game where you have a main weapon and an off-hand weapon of various types. Your dealt a Peacemaker 6 gun and then 2 other weapons face down. They could be a Derringer, Sharps rifle, Winchester rifle, sawed off shotgun, frogsticker (Bowie Knife), and many other types of weapons. You secretly choose 2 of the 3 and put one of them on either side of your gun belt, face down until you use them. Different weapons will have different amount of ammo available, some have 6 rounds, while some have 1 or 2 rounds. There are AIM cards that allow you to add +1 to your attack roll, but they get discarded afterward, and if you shoot with your off-hand weapon, you get -1 to your attack roll. 2d6 and need 7+ to hit. You are dealt 6 action cards each and then choose one and pass the rest to the player next to you. After you draft a card, you put it in one of the 3 spaces on your gun belt, where they will be resolved left to right after each player has drafted and programmed 3 cards. You have one chance to swap 2 cards if you like before players start revealing and resolving them one at a time. You can shoot at other players, throw a tomahak, chair or dynamite, you can place a Cover card in front of you to make some of the players have -1 to their to hit roll when targeting you. You can make a mad dash for a poker chip in the center of the table, you can put a bounty on another player and many more things. Each player has 5 hit points. Weapons can either do light or heavy damage. If you take damage, you draw the top card from the wound deck and resolve the side for light or heavy damage. Most of the wounds are really thematic and will affect things you can do later or a gut wound that will add 1 wound at the end of each round, like bleeding out. There are 20 poker chips in the center of the table for 6 players, 18 for 5 players, 16 for 4 players and 14 for 3 players. The winning conditions are either the last player alive, or the end of the round after the last poker chip has been taken from the center of the table. The lone player alive wins, or the player with the most chips wins. So you keep playing rounds of drafting (reverse direction each round) and playing actions until one of the winning conditions happens. At the end of each round, the first player will draw a wound card and choose the light (usually 1) or heavy (usually 2) wounds worth of poker chips to discard from the center of the table. It acts as a timing mechanism to keep the game going at a good pace, as it should only take 30-45 minutes to play. One of the neat things besides shooting at each other is that there are some throwing weapons like a tomahawk, knives, chair, bottle, throwing stars and dynamite. You actually throw the card (your hand can't extend past your gun belt player mat) and if you hit any part of the targeted player's gun belt player mat, they take a wound of the appropriate type. Usually light wounds, but dynamite can have a chance of being tossed by the player that was hit with it, otherwise they take heavy damage and each adjacent player takes a light wound. One of the wound cards is called Blinded, and you have to close your eyes if you throw a weapon card at an opponent. It's a new game that I just got as a kickstarter. The designer, Charlie Theel, is a guy I chat with a lot on BGG in the Sergeants Miniatures Game thread. He's a real cool guy. Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?
Played in a Dicemaster OP this weekend.
Finished up four Mak Eshka'rey's this week Probe Droids will probably be completed next. Made some progress on tatting up my Orcs and Goblins. Also put the finishing touches on the Apache Kid and Frank James for Adepticon's 1500 Gunslinger |

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?
After last week's Heroscape tournament, I played a couple games with
@akden
. First he showed me Splendor, which I suspected would fill a niche in my collection (hint: it does!) for those who might otherwise like TtR but haven't the time, patience, or table space. I think it should fit the bill nicely. So, now we own it, and KidScaper has beaten me two out of three times, and I'm worried it's in his mysterious wheelhouse and I may never catch him. The good news is, I really had other players in mind when I bought it.
We also played Among the Stars with @Sherman Davies and @Taeblewalker and Sherman, by taking advantage of some made up rule involving ridiculous bonus points at the end, eked out a 2 point victory over the rest of us. |

Oh that sounds like it could be interesting. Do tell!
Don't think of it as being outnumbered. Think of it as having a wide shot selection! Scaper of the Week #17 How to get to Skyknight's house: Drive to the red light, then call him. |

Re: What Board Game Are You Currently Playing?
We thought we'd calculated everything out and
@Sherman Davies
and I were tied for 1st place. We were getting ready to count total number of constructed tiles for the tiebreak, when
@Taeblewalker
remembered that you get points for Power Supplies without any cubes on them. And
@Sherman Davies
had two such squares, and I had none.
The thing that bugged me about that was, I had deliberately gone the whole game without buying *any* power supplies, because there was a bonus card in play for the player with the fewest. And it gave me a few points, not many, and if I'd realized that I'd get points for having the dumb things, too, then I wouldn't have bothered handicapping myself to get the card. But I'm not bitter or anything. |
