I'd like to second that. A report button exists for posts that are out of line, so the ability to send anonymous hate mail via neg rep just seems unnecessary. I think it really harms Heroscapers' attempt at being a welcoming community.

Perfectly said YK, I second this. There isn't any reason why admins can't take care of flagged inappropriate comments. Flagging an inappropriate or hateful comment should work in its stead just fine. The neg rep feature just let's people attack others in anonymity without any reprocussions. They don't have to justify their neg rep either. I wouldn't wholly care about rep if it didn't insure some level of trust and decency when doing transactions in the trade thread. It's more unlikely in my experience that a seasoned veteran of the site with high rep will try to rip you off and sully their reputation.

Personally I think the neg-rep feature is fine, but that may be based on my own constrained experiences with giving and receiving it.

Is there a way to automatically add the username to all rep posts? If so, that would fix the problem of anonymous flaming with neg rep.

Edit: I don't have a problem with getting rid of neg rep if that's the decision. I do see a use for it when someone displays particularly boorish online behavior.

That would just lead to retaliation. I'm pretty sure that 100% of the times I have signed my neg rep messages they have been reflected back to me.

There has been some discussion in the admin chat regarding what to do with the rep system especially neg rep as the site gets upgraded. I'll make sure this conversation reaches admin eyes.

In my humble opinion, I think If you say something to someone you should own it. Whether it's good or bad. Not having to own what you say or do generally leads to people acting poorly. I commend you for owning what you said. I'm glad the admins are considering getting rid of this feature. If you can't be an adult and tell someone what you think in an appropriate way, does it really need to be said? Sometimes the context of a statement is reflected by the source of the statement.

If anyone else has thoughts about neg rep, please chime in. Several admins are on record about being happy to chuck the entire rep system, but y'all's opinions have weight as well.

I pretty much view it as unneeded at this point. We're a pretty tight knit community at this point and I doubt we've had complete trolls join the site within the last several years.
