Character Bio - “Nathaniel Christopher Adam is a United States Air Force officer. Adam had been framed for a crime he did not commit and was, under military justice, condemned to death. As an alternative to execution, Adam was "asked" to participate in 'Project: Captain Atom', a military experiment with little-to-no chance of survival, in exchange for an unconditional presidential pardon. He agreed. The experiment involved testing the hull of a crashed alien ship's durability by placing a human being (Adam) within the metal craft and then exploding an atomic weapon under it. The weapon went off and Adam, along with the metal, was seemingly disintegrated. Eighteen years later, Adam suddenly reappeared. The alien metal, now bonded around his body, afforded him incredible abilities far beyond that of a mere mortal [….]

I'll trust you guys that "flinging radioactivity around the battlefield" is thematically appropriate for Captain Atom. Not something I've ever really seen of him but I have next to no experience with the character.

Officer seems a bit odd to me since it's been exclusively a Green Lantern class before now and (I believe) is a way to provide synergy among them. I feel like Soldier or Champion would be more accurate, personally.

Don't know the character so don't know about theme, but I don't see any mechanical issues. I do agree with Johnny on Officer though.

And Bats, why is the sixth playtest so sad?

I worked on this a long time ago with someone else (I forget who - Flame Gryphon, maybe? Tickle? Karat?) so the theme could be off. I was largely trusting them. Perhaps @Spidey'tilIDie could help?

I do know he uses nuclear energy and that he's unstable.

I'd forgotten that Kilowog used the Officer class for synergy. Though I'm not completely sure that synergy would be thematically inappropriate for Captain Atom, who has a cosmic bent to him, and would certainly be inspired by fighting with Kilowog. I'd go with Champion as a second choice if that works for folks better.

I can really only narrow it down to someone I collaborated with at some point, so that's about a dozen possibilities at least. I know it wasn't Griff, though, because we started with that one and moved away from it. And I'm pretty sure it wasn't Scapey.

I don't think that it's unthematic for Captain Atom to be an Officer - I just don't think it's more thematic for him than for a number of other police and military characters we've produced and will produce. Cleaner and more consistent to have it stay a GL thing.

Sure, I think he does make a tad more sense to mix into armies with Green Lanterns than most, though, as a bit of a cosmic DC metahuman. Compare that to Jim Gordon or Captain America and Captain Atom seems to be the cleanest fit.

Meanwhile, Soldier offers unthematic Bucky-bonding and Champion offers Sif's devotion and control from Mongul (the latter of which works for me, but only about as well as the Officer synergies).

That said, changing from Officer isn't a deal-breaker. But if we do it, after looking at the synergies each offers, I'd prefer to go Champion. I definitely think Officer is a better fit than Soldier.

I don't know the character, so I'm in the same boat as johnny and ZJ. I agree that Officer feels like a weird Class for him, given the GL synergy, but I don't think it would be a big deal, as he doesn't fit into a Kilowog Army any better than one of the other GLs. Soldier is just as fitting though.

Kind of weird that getting hit and dropping a glyph right next to the opponent would be a goal for him. He'll also make the battlefield really dangerous if you're not careful where you lose the glyphs at.

I think it'd be neat for Atomic Absorbtion to work when he reveals an X marker instead of after taking a turn. Makes it a little more risky.

I'm cool with that, so long as folks are on board with the overall direction, which I'm waiting to see first.
