Cf's Custom Tech Talk
In Custom Tech Talk, we take a special power and break it down to its components so that those components may then be used in custom powers.
In today's episode, we will do the process in reverse. We’re going to take a custom power and break it down to check the work of its creator. DEADLY TRICKSHOT Original wording: DEADLY TRICKSHOT When William Garin rolls attack dice for a normal attack against a figure that isn't adjacent, all skulls rolled count for one additional hit. After the attack, William Garin may attack up to two additional times. There are clearly two major legs: “ When William Garin rolls attack dice for a normal attack against a figure that isn't adjacent, all skulls rolled count for one additional hit. ” -and- “ After the attack, William Garin may attack up to two additional times. ” Breaking it down: When ~ ~ rolls attack dice for a normal attack against a figure that isn't adjacent, all skulls rolled count for one additional hit. That’s at least seven (7) things to check. Luckily, we have a shortcut in the form of a similar power that can be looked at: DEADLY SHOT (Omnicron Snipers - Collection 1): When attacking with ~ ~, all skulls rolled count for one additional hit. We’ve already found inconsistencies; before we delve in, think of any figures in later collections that may have updated wording. DEADLY SHOT (Zetacron - Aquilla’s Alliance): When attacking with ~, each skull rolled counts for one additional hit. And there are changes; can we find any figures in later collections that may have updated wording? Protip: BOOKS of Heroscape - By Wave/Pack, check bottom to top. (Large sets are out of order. Ignore promos.) WARFORGED RESOLVE (Warforged Soldiers - Collection 12) is noteworthy: When rolling defense dice against a normal or special attack, ~ ~ always adds 1 automatic shield to whatever is rolled. DEADLY STRIKE (Migol Ironwill - Collection 9): When attacking with ~ ~, each skull rolled counts as one additional hit. Deadly Strike appears to be the best model, but let’s play with both. (W) for Warforged Resolve and (D) for Deadly Strike DEADLY TRICKSHOT (W) When rolling attack dice against a figure that isn’t adjacent, William Garin always adds 1 automatic skull to whatever is rolled for each skull rolled. This version veered a bit due to everything not being defined in the example alone, but fret not, because checking tech is all about calibration. DEADLY TRICKSHOT (D) When attacking with William Garin, each skull rolled counts as one additional hit. When attacking a nonadjacent figure with William Garin, each skull rolled counts as one additional hit. Equally ugly and imperfect. In both cases, targeting needs to be defined. The task is to find a power that cares about where the defending figure is. DEADLY TRICKSHOT (E) (Evil Eye Defense - Gurei-Oni - Aquilla’s Alliance) When rolling attack dice for a normal attack against a non-adjacent figure, each skull rolled counts as one additional hit. Doesn’t mention William DEADLY TRICKSHOT (C) (Concealment - Brave Arrow/Mohican River Tribe - Collection 9) When attacking a figure who is not adjacent, William Garin counts each skull rolled as one additional hit. Doesn’t mention rolling attack dice DEADLY TRICKSHOT (C2) (Concealment - Brave Arrow/Mohican River Tribe - Collection 9) When rolling attack dice against a figure who is not adjacent, William Garin counts each skull rolled as one additional hit. DEADLY TRICKSHOT (T) (Targeting Beacon - Omnicron Repulsors - Collection 9) When attacking a non-adjacent figure, William Garin counts each skull rolled as one additional hit. Doesn’t mention rolling attack dice DEADLY TRICKSHOT (T2) (Targeting Beacon - Omnicron Repulsors - Collection 9) When rolling attack dice against a non-adjacent figure, William Garin counts each skull rolled as one additional hit. Honorable Mentions: Phantom Knights - Wave 11 - Insubstantial: “ a figure who is not adjacent” Frost Giant or Morh - Moltenclaw’s Invasion - Dying Swipe: “a figure who is adjacent” → “a figure who is not adjacent” While there were no definitive answers, it boiled down to version (C2) vs. (T2), with C2 having the most support. In our next episode, we’ll examine the second leg to this power: Attacking additional times. Last edited by Confred; July 6th, 2017 at 10:48 PM. |
