Re: The Book of The Doctor (11th) (Initial Playtesting)

I think his real strength will come in with ganging up multiple figures on an opponent's figure then Fast-Talking that opponent. They can't attack unless they leave engagement, and can't leave engagement without taking a ton of LEAs. Maybe a combo with Wonder Woman? I'm also finding Robot very useful for the Init boost/OM management/Carry, which are all things the Doctor seems to like. Looking at these results though, I'm wondering if any changes should be made to make him more viable. I think Companions and the TARDIS will obviously help, but he should feel viable on his own too. The Sonic is seeming like the least fun part of the design right now. Not going to come up super often in most games and it gives him double negation when it does. Maybe that's where we should look to make changes? Any thoughts? |

I mean, a whole power that is a specific counter draft is usually not fun. It's either useless or frustrating for your opponent. Not know the theme of it, what else CAN the screwdriver do aside from remotely shut down robots?

Re: The Book of The Doctor (11th) (Initial Playtesting)
Maybe something that makes EQ glyphs misfire and inflict wounds on the users? That feels on theme.
It could/should repair electronics too. C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

Re: The Book of The Doctor (11th) (Initial Playtesting)
So it's going to be niche no matter what? Then I'd say just let it be. Test him against guys he can shut down to make sure it's not too powerful in those niche cases, and it'll just be what it is.

Re: The Book of The Doctor (11th) (Initial Playtesting)
Eh, if the Doctor is a sci-fi wizard, it's his sic-fi magic wand. It can do whatever the writers want it to do really, but it's mostly tied to electronic stuff, like T said. Lots of hacking, locking/unlocking doors, messing with robots, etc. The only things it can't really mess with is wood and "deadlock seals", whatever those are.
I like the idea of making stuff "misfire", giving him a way to deal wounds. It could have multiple effects, like the Cosmic Cube, to really cover the idea of a multi-tool. |

Re: The Book of The Doctor (11th) (Initial Playtesting)
Yeah, I'd consider changing what the screw driver does then. Like you mentioned it currently doubles down on negation, so maybe if it did something else he'd feel more useful in a wider range of situations. Kind of like the suggestion about messing with equipment glyphs, a variety of different figures that use them.

Re: The Book of The Doctor (11th) (Initial Playtesting)
Well if you let him repair Androids and Cyborgs with it and maybe inflict wounds on figures equipped with or within one space of equipment glyphs, you could army build around that.
C3G can be played with official Heroscape, but it's not recommended.

Re: The Book of The Doctor (11th) (Initial Playtesting)
Could also have it 'hack' cyborgs and androids similar to how Dethlok does, then repair/heal those types of units too so you can draft him with an Android/Cyborg and it'll be useful even if your opponent doesn't have anyone to target. The little Robot Dog of his would like to get repaired I would think.

Re: The Book of The Doctor (11th) (Initial Playtesting)
It can't do anything to organic people? With the name "sonic," it doesn't have anything to do with noise? Like could it create an annoying deterrence or distraction? Then enemies attacking the holder of the screwdriver could roll one less attack or something like that.
