There was talk of reclarifying the wording a page ago but it doesn't look like anything was done with it. As currently worded, your interpretation is valid. I do however believe the intent was all 3 attacks being made with the SA though. @johnny139 could speak more to that point though.

The wording goes at least as far back as Kaemon Awa. It's not optimal for clarity, but the official ruling has always been that additional attacks have to be with that SA. If a special attack is gonna let you also attack normally, it'll spell it out super explicitly, because that's not how SAs usually work.

Ronin's interpretation is as I have always known it as well. When you choose a Special Attack as your action you have chosen that path INSTEAD of a normal attack and you can't jump to another path unless you are specifically told you can within the text of the power.

I always forget about that. I never did keep up with classic figures and rulings very much.

We have a lot of baggage from Classic which has never been super consistent (or clear) with its power wording for more intricate play... if we were starting from scratch I'd probably make sure these sorts of powers have a "with this special attack" tagged in there.

I'm trying to remember where this came up not long ago. We specifically worded someone's power so that they could use both.

I thought it was Domino but she doens't have a SA so it wasn't her. Maybe it was a brainstorming of her? Or maybe someone knows what I'm talking about?

Diamondback. Although that's probably not who you're thinking of. That's just in her version of double attack. You're meaning a special attack that lets you do it .... yeah, there was somebody .....

Green Goblin and Aquaman (II) both let you attack with a special attack and follow it up with a normal attack, but aren't flexible.
