Yeah, if I had access to that set up I'd just have to break out the tape measure and rule that for range & movement each hex = 1.5 inches & moving up '1' would be .5 inches. Spider-man and Batman would have fun moving around taking out lowly street thugs.
I had a great time at Gen Con despite the fact that my ankle did not hold up as well as I would have wanted. We arrived on Tuesday and by Thursday, I was rationing my steps.
A bit of a bummer as I enjoy wandering both the convention and the city of Indy.
I did get to game with Grishnakh and his son. That was an absolute blast. His buildings and advanced rules for throwing/attacking DOs added a whole new level of strategy to the battles. My Loki smashed Lockjaw and Captain America with a Tanker Truck that blew up in everyone's face and Thor wiped out my Hulk my crushing him with a Helicopter. I also got to meet capsocrates and The Orange Mailman which was very cool. The C3G tournament fell through at Casual Play which was also a bummer.
My group was able to debut our RPG and had a good turnout, despite the fact that our Friday and Saturday games mysteriously disappeared from the mobile listings. We had a full house of 6 players Thursday and 4 players for Friday and Saturday but we had one friend to fill in Fri. and two friends to make up the space on Saturday, so it worked out well. Setting up at a table was a little Wild West. We never set up on the table(s) we were assigned but it all worked out.
Everyone had fun or at least claimed they did and we got some great feedback on the system which was extremely valuable. We were nervous. When you are so close to a project it is hard to be objective. After 15 years we understand how the system works but we were unsure how it would be viewed by those with fresh eyes. It certainly helped that our lead GM is incredibly good at what he does and our secondary GM is also quite skilled at running PCs that have split off on the fly. As the third GM my role was a bit more limited as I began each game(except the last) as a PC/NPC. It was really cool though for there were times when all three GMs were simultaneously running three different pairs of PCs. It was fun afterwards to discuss the game and find out all the things we missed that was going on with the other GMs.
I was unable physically to do much more but I feel like we accomplished our mission for this year and I am happy with that. Now it is time to do some editing and revisions and get this thing out to the public.
When/where/what was the RPG? My party would've totally been up for playtesting it
Thursday,Friday, and Saturday 8pm at the Radison. Our system is called Heroes or Dead and the game was called A Night at the Bloody Buckets. We should certainly be running more games next year.
We sold out for Saturday on the first day and had sold 4 of 6 tickets for Thursday shortly after. Then we did not sell anymore tickets until the convention started when Thr. sold out and 3-4 tickets sold for Wednesday. Two people backed out the day of, on Saturday but that worked out because we had two friends show up who wanted to play.
How big is your group? We were both excited and a little scared to have a group of veteran gaming friends. We know our group can be quite devious when together. I believe the most 'friends' we had in any group was three.
The game was set up nicely for friends as we had the party split into three groups of two, so people could choose to pair up. It was the same scenario every night but the games played out completely different. This was true also during our first five times playing the scenario with our group.
The group Thr. were super nice, even valiant, and would not engage each other even though they were mostly Thieves and Assassins with orders to take each other out. I think the closest they came to combat with each other was a failed trip followed by a responding kick to the shin. The Sat. group was the complete opposite and were poisoning and backstabbing each other inside ten minutes. I was quite a surprised because they were very quiet when we first started and I feared the game would fall flat but once they got started they propelled the game so quickly that we were about an hour ahead of schedule in the timing of the scenario. The Fri. group was somewhere in between, they were closest to unraveling the plot and had by far the best ending.
About mid game he purchased a bottle of fine wine and glasses. He discreetly poisoned the wine and put it away. In the end, he and two other characters(his wife and friend IRL) had escaped with the Horn of the Dragon(the goal of the scenario). He pulled out the glasses and wine, toasted, and the others drank knockout poison. He killed his partner as per his orders(his friend who claimed this always happens to him) and left 10 gold for his wife's character. He then states "I blow the Horn, transform into a Dragon, and fly away." Awesome.
There were 6 of us @ Gencon, at any given time, but my personal gaming roster has around 20 people on it. I'm definitely interested in taking a look/looks at it, since rpg playtesting is how I'm spending a fair amount of my free time, right now.
Though numerous pronunciation attempts have been made, I have recently spurned my moniker. Feel free to refer to me as BowTieJones instead.

Wish I would have been able to make it down there this year. I believe 40+ people from my gaming group made it down there, with a lot of them running demos for game companies. One of them was running several large X-Wing demos.

That'd definitely be fun to play/watch. I'd even be tempted to make some special rulers that would have the specific Heroscape space/range/climb measurements on them.
