What about doing something like this that let him either heal or attack twice:
MEAT AND MEAD
Start the game with 3 brown Meat and Mead Markers on this card. After moving and before attacking, you may immediately remove 1 Meat and Mead Marker from this card and either remove up to 2 Wound Markers from this card or attack one additional time this turn.

My only concern with Meat and Mead is I'm not sure why you would ever attack twice. Removing 2 wounds gives sooooo much more value 90% of the time, and gives him an effective Life of 12, which might be a tad high.

Well if I don't have any wounds and I'm looking to finish a figure off, I might. If I'm attacking a figure with a bunch of unrevealed OMs and that double attack of 7 might put him under, I might. If I'm playing Galactus and the map is almost eaten, I might. If I'm up against Poison Ivy and she's seduced my Thor and I want to destroy her to get him back, I might.

Tickle, the Warriors 3 already have a dangerous amount of attacks in a single turn, so I think that is too powerful.

I toyed with a lot of different options for that power, at one point even having 3 or 4 bullets, but I really think a healing power makes the most sense for the design in conjunction with Hunger Pains and Warriors 3. Plus, according to wiki, Volstagg is one of the longest lived Asgardians in Asgard.

I wish I knew of a second option for the Meat and Mead marker too, but I can't think of one that keeps the design balanced and elegant either.

It is true, that multiple attacks (attrition) rule this game, but as I stated, I am already concerned about the attack potential of the Warriors 3.

Heavy Hitter or Mid-Level Hero Test

- What should be the unit's point value? It seems like he should be more from looking at his card, but that Hunger Pains brings his value down. Still, 320 is a good price to keep this guy very draftable.
- Give a brief overview. I really like this design. At first, I didn't want to use a MMMarker unless I could heal a full two wounds each time, but after playing a bit, I realized that using it to engage an enemy and gain height is certainly worth the price. Lots of fun here.

Superboy's speed, range, defense, and double "attacks" gave him a very strong advantage.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Superboy wins with 5 wounds and Volstagg had used all of his MMMarkers.

TEST 2

Units: Volstagg - VS - Superboy Kal-El.
Superboy's speed, range, defense, and double "attacks" gave him a very strong advantage.

Units: Volstagg - VS - Sinestro.
Volstagg's extended life and healing + defense gave him the longevity to really put Sinestro to the test.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Sinestro wins with 4 wounds and 0 batteries.

TEST 4
Map: Custom.
Units: Volstagg - VS - Sinestro.
A huge attack from Volstagg put Sinestro in trouble early on. It was only 4 skulls, but Sin whiffed. That forced Sinestro to rely on his batteries for shields quite a bit.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Volstagg wins with 6 wounds.

TEST 5
Map: Custom.
Units: Volstagg - VS - Thor.
Thor kited almost all game, using his flying and ranged attacks to force the slow Volstagg to run over a lot of rocky terrain.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Thor wins with 4 wounds.

TEST 6

Units: Volstagg - VS - Thor.
This time, Volstagg used two of his MMMarkers this game to move quickly on initiative switches so that he could actually gain height on Thor. From there, Volstagg was seriously hurting the God of Thunder, and nearly defeated him.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Thor wins with 7 wounds.

TEST 7
Map: Custom.
Units: Volstagg - VS - Silver Surfer.
Volstagg knew that SS was gonna kite him, so Volstagg removed two MMMarkes right away and engaged SS and put 4 wounds on him. Then Surfer started his kiting and took Volstagg down little by little.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Silver surfer wins with 4 wounds.

TEST 8
Map: Custom.
Units: Volstagg - VS - Silver Surfer.
Volstagg Baby!!! Volstagg took a hit from Surfer's SA, then Volstagg removed two MMMarkers and engaged surfer on height and hit him for 4 wounds. Surfer reeled back and hit Volstagg with his SA giving him 4 wounds. Volstagg then used his last MMMarker to heal two wounds and engage SS at height disadvantage and killed the surfer.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Volstagg wins with 2 wounds.

TEST 9
Map: Custom.
Units: Volstagg - VS - Supergirl.
Volstagg started off real strong and was able to engage Supergirl and really beat the crap out of her, until she had 5 wounds and he 4, then healed them all off, but was out of MMMarkers.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Supergirl wins with 5 wounds.

TEST 10
Map: Custom.
Units: Volstagg - VS - Supergirl.
With his first hit on Supergirl, Volstagg healed two wounds that turn and put 4 on Supergirl. Then Supergirl gained height and started hurting Volstagg, but Volstagg healed on her turns to bump his defense and that made the difference here.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Volstagg wins with 5 wounds.

- Give a brief overview. The decision as to when to heal up is tricky, but in this battle it was easier, because extra defense isn't really needed against PD.

Units: Volstagg - VS - Parademons x4.

Spoiler Alert!

Volstagg used all of his MMMarkers, and he used them on his own turns, because anytime the PD gave him wounds, it was always 2 or more, and Volstagg needs to maximize his attacks to keep killing the PD. Several times, PD on height rolled 3 skulls, and that really hurt, but Volstagg fought back valiantly and it ended on a hill with the PD on top.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Parademons win with 1 man left.

Spoiler Alert!

Hydra fanned out and it paid off, as Volstagg had a real hard time choosing where to focus his single attack. At one point, Volstagg healed off a bunch of wounds and just ran 8 spaces to heal and take height. From there he killed some more Hydra, but once they were gone, the ones on the outside baited him off the hill with their ranged attacks.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Hydra wins with 2 squads killed.

Army Test
- Does it pass, Yes or No? Yes.
- What should be the unit's point value? 330.
- Give a brief overview. Volstagg has great longevity, as he has a difficult time getting into the fight early on without "eating" and there are plenty of times when he reveals an OM, you want to take an actual turn with him, rather than a type of bonding, because he needs to keep up and use that massive attack.
Map: Custom.
Units: Hogun, Fandral, Volstagg, and Thor (1,350 points after giving each Warrior an additional 10 points) - VS - Laufey, Frost Giant x4, Captain Cold, and Skrull Infiltrator x3 (1,350).

Spoiler Alert!

ROUND 1 - Both teams advanced and the warriors took the hill first as Laufey looked for the Ancient Winters. When the Frost Giants engaged, they froze Hogun. Then when the third OM was revealed on Hogun's card, the Warrior's couldn't do anything because their power is "instead of taking a turn", and so Hogun had no turn to replace, they couldn't activate.

ROUND 2 - The Giants freeze Fandral then Thor engages Hogun's rock, and cracks it and Fandral's rock open with his Hammer Swing. Warriors then all 3 have height advantage on one Giant, Fandral attacks 6 times, Volstagg attacks 1 time, and Hogun attacks 1 time for a total of 8 attacks, but only Hogun deals 2 wounds to the Giant. As the Giants struggle to freeze the warriors, the warriors struggle to deal any more damage, then Hogun deals 5 wounds to a Giant, killing it, and putting a wound on the other Giant.

ROUND 3 - Hogun circles a Giant and locks him down in engagement and misses. Frost Giant takes a leaving engagement wound and puts 3 wounds on Thor from height, then another Giant engages Hogun and puts another wound on him. Volstagg does nothing again as Fandral and Hogun fight two Giants and fail to damage them. The Giants freeze Hogun. Fandral uses his height advantage to destroy the Ice Rock and free Hogun, then deal two wounds to a Giant but Hogun failed to do any damage, while Volstagg sat still, unable to attack anyone nearby. The Giants try to freeze again, but fail.

ROUND 4 - Giants fail to hurt Thor, but put two more wounds on Hogun. Thor moves up on same height and misses the wounded Giant. Giants do nothing. Volstagg takes a turn and kills the wounded Giant. A Giant engaged Hogun and fails to freeze him, but the other Giant does freeze him. Fandral frees up Hogun, fails to hurt the Giant, but then Hogun hits the other Giant for 2 wounds.

ROUND 5 - Volstagg takes a turn and engages a Giant and hits for two wounds. Two Giants team up and beat Hogun to DEATH and he reveals that he was really a Skrull Infiltrator. Hogun lost a turn. The Giants froze Fandral. Fandral lost a turn. Giants freeze Volstagg. Volstagg and Fandral take a wound from frost bite.

ROUND 5 - Giant fail to freeze Thor. Thor summons his Thunder and misses a Giant, misses Fandral's Ice, destroys Volstagg's Ice and frees him, and kills a Frost Giant!!! Giant hits Thor and puts two wounds on him. Thor puts a wound on the Giant. Giant puts a wound on Thor. Volstagg kills the last Giant. Then throws the Ice Rock towards captain cold.

ROUND 6 - Captain Cold moves up and shoots his Cold Gun and hits Thor for 1 wound. Thor engages CC and hits him for 3 wounds. CC gives Thor his final wound with his special attack. Thor reveals that he is actually a Skrull. Volstagg moves up a tiny bit and kills a Skrull. CC misses Volstagg. Volstagg moves up a tiny bit and hits Fandral and frees him.

ROUND 7 - CC retreats and shoots Fandral for two hits. Volstagg and Fandral advance. CC retreats and misses Fandral. Warriors advance again. Laufey engages Volstagg and hits him for one wound. Volstagg heals with a MMMarker and hits Laufey for 2 wounds and Fandral kills the last Skrull.

ROUND 8 - Volstagg takes a turn and hits Laufey for two wounds. Laufey engages Fandral while dangerously still engaged with Volstagg, and puts Fandral in critical condition. Volstagg and Fandral put two wounds on Laufey. Laufey takes a wound from Volstagg and takes height on Fandral then kills him. Volstagg kills Captain Cold. Laufey comes down and hits Volstagg for 3 wounds.

ROUND 9 - Volstagg heals up two wounds with a MMMarker and hits Laufey for two wounds!!! This is now really close. Before Laufey takes his turn, Volstagg heals his last wound with his last MMMarker and adds two to his defense this turn, which really helped against Laufey's 5 skull attack, so Volstagg only took 3 wounds and that is now all he has on him. Volstagg rolls 3 skulls and Laufey rolls 0 defense. Volstagg wins.

Army Test
- Does it pass, Yes or No? Yes.
- What should be the unit's point value? Volstagg should be 330.
- Give a brief overview. Volstagg is a great end gamer, though if he doesn't manage his consumption, he can be pretty weak and easy enough for a little guy to take out.

Units: Volstagg, Hogun, and Fandral (920) - VS - Piledriver, Wrecker, Bulldozer, Thunderball and Pyro (920).

Spoiler Alert!

Wrecker and Bulldozer were the first to meet the Warriors, and though they did both die, they softened up Hogun and Fandral pretty bad. Piledriver and Thunderball went in next though Piledriver killed the wounded Fandral, Volstagg gave Piledriver the beat down of a life time. Then Thunderball took out Hogun and wounded Volstagg with his Ball and Chain. Using his range, Thunderball baited Volstagg towards him and when Volstagg finally caught up over the rocky terrain, he was bleeding and in need of Meat. After eating, Volstagg was savage against Thunderball, and destroyed him. Then with all the OMs on Thunderball's dead army card, Volstagg went after Pyro and hit him hard, but then next round Pyro broke engagement and took the high ground permanently. Using his engulf and his SA, Pyro was able to severly cripple and defend Volstagg who was out of FOOD. Pyro ended the fat man's life and took the victory.
Who won and how many wounds did they have? Pyro wins with 2 wounds.

After doing a little bit of testing, Volstagg seemed like a sicken fat man who was struggling to feel worth a darn to even draft. I made these edits to the SP, and I have high hopes that will bring his value up enough to feel accurate to the character and worth drafting.

ATTACK 8

MEAT AND MEAD
Start the game with 3 brown Meat and Mead Markers on this card. Any time an Order Marker is revealed on any Army Card, you may immediately remove 1 Meat and Mead Marker from this card and up to 2 Wound Markers from this card. Add 2 to Volstagg's Move and Defense numbers this turn.

Well if you're going to make changes to up his value, why not go with the double attack possibility for Meat and Mead that we were throwing around?
