Re: The C3G Cave - Hangout

I'd definitely check out Silver Surfer before GotG or Space Knight Venom. GotG and Venom aren't the worst books in the world, but I'm not nuts about them. If you want a symbiote book, buy Carnage instead.

I've only been buying comics a few years and I've already seen way too many craptastic events to get excited about Civil War II. With Bendis at the helm, it probably won't be as bad as the original Civil War, but I'm still not interested.

Rucka on Wonder Woman and Tom King on Batman in DC Rebirth has me excited as anything, though. Definitely checking out those two, possibly also Flash, Superman, and All-Star Batman, and Deathstroke. There are a few other interesting-looking books too (including New Super-Man), but I'm not made of money.

Re: The C3G Cave - Hangout

Just started reading The Walking Dead.
Very cool but it moves so much faster than the TV show it feels like a cliff notes version.
I am impressed by how much the TV versions look like the characters in the comics.
Great casting, wardrobe ect.

Re: The C3G Cave - Hangout

I find Silver Surfer a very enjoyable read but somewhat lacking. Some of the story beats they aim for just don't quite land for me. It's a fun, light book though, and art from the Allreds easily makes it worth the read.

Various other things, in no particular order:
  • Fantastic Four: 1234 (4 issues)
  • Waid and Wieringo's Fantastic Four (35 issues)
  • Superior Foes of Spider-Man (~17 issues) (cannot push this one strongly enough. So psyched that these guys are getting clix in a few months)
  • Doctor Strange: The Oath (5 issues)
  • Jeff Parker's Exiles (6 issues) (Poor guy had a lot of stuff prematurely cancelled on him)
  • Thor the Mighty Avenger (8 issues)
  • Joe Kelly's Deadpool (33 issues)
  • Chris Priest's Black Panther (62 issues)
  • Nicieza's Thunderbolts (starting from New Thunderbolts) (~30 issues) (and if you're feeling ambitious, you can continue into Ellis' and then Diggle's and then Parker's T-Bolts for another 80 issues or so)
  • Superior Iron Man (9 issues) (ends a little weakly, but it's a fun book)
  • Rick Remender's Venom (22 issues)
  • Star Wars: Darth Vader and the City of Shadows (5 issues)
  • Star Wars: Legacy vol 2 (18 issues)
  • Ultimate Human (4 issues)
I've read a few of those, but I'll add the others to the list! Superior Foes in particular is one I've been meaning to check out for a while now.

I'll have to give this one another shot. I tried the first TPB when it came out, but I wasn't very impressed. I love Peter David's work though, and it has some of my favorite B- and C-list Mutant characters.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat on Silver Surfer. The plot doesn't always connect with me, but it's still a lot of fun, and Allred's art does a lot for the book.

Love walking dead, but actually could never really get into the show. I think the comic is just that much better.

If you like walking dead, check out Invincible! Same writer, and hands down my favorite comic book ever!

Re: The C3G Cave - Hangout

Silver Surfer is one of those character-over-story books I really love. Exploring Surfer and Dawn as people, a homebody traveling with the universe's greatest explorer. Slowly learning about his spotty past. It's just... comfortable, for lack of a better word.

It reminds me a lot of Slott's She-Hulk in that way. Just an excuse to play house with characters. My kind of book.

Invincible is on my read list. My friend just gave me access to his collection and TWD, Invincible and Fables are tops on my reading list.
He has so much though it is a little daunting. I have not even heard of most of the titles.

I can see where the TV show could be a letdown after reading the comics first. I am glad I went the opposite way. I still need to catch up on last season.

I have not read any of the new GotG. Can someone explain how Venom became a part of that team?

A few years ago (when Brian Michael Bendis started writing the book) it became more Earth-centric, and one result of that is an Avenger being a member of the team on a rotating basis. Originally it was Iron Man, then Captain Marvel and Venom, who is currently government agent Flash Thompson.

I actually watched season 1 first, liked it, and read the comic. Could never get back into the show after that. Aside from making Shane's story more in-depth, I think the comic handles pretty much everything better! But that's just me personally

I've kept up with both of them and find them both enjoyable in their own way.
