When placing Order Markers you may place an additional "X" Order Marker on this card, or on a card you control that has the identity of Matt Murdock. Before rolling attack dice with a Matt Murdock figure you control, you may reveal an "X" Order Marker on that card to add 1 to his Attack number for the turn, or 2 to his Attack number this turn if he is adjacent to a Client you control.

Round 1: Initiative Vigilantes. Matt advances.
Donatello Staff Vaults up onto the Shipping Container on his side.
Batman grapples up a hill next to his Shipping Container, Matt follows, and Robin follows.
Mikey stealth leaps onto Donnie’s Shipping Container, then Cowabunga’s his way to the fa rend.
Batman grapples up onto his Shipping Container, Matt follows, and Robin takes the nearby hill.
Leo stealth leaps onto Donnie’s Shipping Container. Raph flanks him.

Round 2: Initiative Turtles. Leo and Raph cluster around a jungle bush at the far end of their Shipping Container.
Batman slides along the Shipping Container and throws batarangs, missing Raph, but destroying a Toxic Waste Barrel next to his own container and burning up a Jungle Bush. Matt slides along next to him. Robin slides up to the container and fails to hit a Jungle Tree with an attack.
Donnie vaults over to the tree and fails an attempt to throw a Toxic Waste Barrel.
Batman can’t hit the Jungle Tree but sneaks in wounds on whiffing Turtles (1 on Donnie, 2 on Raph). Robin picks up the Anti-Grav Gauntlet Donnie dropped and throws a Toxic Waste Barrel into Donnie and the Palm Tree. He misses the damage roll, though.
Raph is self-important. He fails a double attack on the palm tree near Donnie, then leaps up next to Matt, but Public Defender stops him.
Batman can’t get anything done with his Batarangs. Robin hits a Toxic Waste Barrel, which destroys the Palm Tree next to Donnie, but Donnie avoids wounds both times.

Round 3: Initiative Turtles. Leo advances. Raph double attacks Matt, inflicting one wound on a one skull attack that Matt risked defending, then getting shut down by the “X.”
Batamn’s batarangs destroy the damaged Toxic Waste Barrel, inflicting a second wound on Donnie, then hit a whiffing Donnie for a third wound, while missing Raph. Robin takes height on Donnie and punches him out.
Leo attacks Matt, but Matt uses the second X. Raph hits Matt for two wounds.
Batman can’t hit anyone with his Batarangs. Robin engages Leo and fails to hit Raph with the Anti-Grav Gauntlet.
Batman and Robin fail to get anything done.

Round 4: Initiative Turtles. Leo Stealth Leaps up onto the Shipping Container next to Batman. He gets past Evasive Strike, but Matt’s Public Defender shuts him down. Raph attacks Matt, but his second Public Defender use shuts it down.
Batman can’t hit Leo with a punch. Robin engages Leo and fails to throw Raph.
Leo KO’s Matt Murdock on his second attack from height disadvantage. Raph engages Batman and can’t get past the Dark Knight’s armor.
Batman punches Leo for two wounds from height disadvantage. Robin engages both turtles and fails to throw Raph.
Batman punches down on Leo for two more wounds. Robin fails to finish him.

Round 5: Daredevil pops up on the shipping container where the fight is going on. Initiative Vigilantes. Batman follows the Secret Attack Plan and punches out Leo, who had OM1. Robin punches up on Raph who whiffs and takes two wounds.
Daredevil reveals the “X” and hits Raph with a 6 dice attack (+1 for Man Without Fear and +1 for the “X” from Foggy). He KO’s Raph and knocks out the round for the Turtles. Robin advances and fails to hit a Toxic Waste Barrel next to Mikey.
Daredevil advances and hits Mikey for a wound from range. Robin fails to throw Mikey.

Round 6: Initiative Vigilantes. Daredevil engages Mikey and uses his X bonus and inflicts one wound on a six dice attack. Robin whiffs a ranged attack.
Mikey attacks Daredevil, but DD senses it coming and swings up to the top of the Shipping Container, unharmed.
Daredevil follows the Secret Attack Plan from range, Mikey defends poorly, and the Vigilantes win.

Unit Summary: Tough go for the Turtles here. Their dice weren’t as good as the Vigilantes, but Matt next to his client with two “X” Order Markers was a tough nut to crack. In terms of the map, I though it played well and was balanced overall. The one quibble is it’s a bit of a stare down when each side is on one Shipping Container and it seems like whichever side decides to get aggressive is at a disadvantage. It could make sense to add a glyph to the asphalt area to balance that out and give more of a reward for the aggressive party.

Round 4: Initiative Fighters. Jessica punches Raven, but is blocked. Then she finds the “X” on Nightwing without Foggy’s help. Luke fails to finish Raven.
Titans Go! Raven Soul Selfs a wound onto Luke. Matt’s “X” markers shut down Cyborg and Nightwing.
Jessica Jones KO’s Raven. Luke punches a whiffing Nightwing for two wounds.
Cyborg puts himself in disadvantageous position in order to engage Matt to be able to attack him, but luckily for him gets a KO.
Jessica Jones avoids a swipe from Nightwing and fails to hit Cyborg from height. Luke swings at Cyborg from height with 8 dice (Jessica’s bonus, asphalt bonus, height bonus) but rolls poorly and only inflicts one wound.
Cyborg’s Sonic Cannon hits Jessica and Luke for one wound each and destroys a Palm Tree, which Luke dodges on the way down.

Round 5: Daredevil pops up on the top of the shipping container. Initiative Titans. Titans Go! Cyborg avoids a swipe, climbs up next to Luke, and punches Luke for a wound. Nightwing hits Luke for a wound with his first Escrima attack, but fails to finish him.
Daredevil uses an “X” from Foggy for +1 to his attack, staying on height to add another one, and hits Cyborg for two wounds. Luke punches out Cyborg.
Cyborg had OM2.
Daredevil uses the second “X” to bump his attack by two, but neither he nor Luke can finish Nightwing, despite height.
Cyborg had OM3.

Round 6: Initiative Fighters. Jessica can’t hit Nightwing or find the “X” and Luke can’t hit Nightwing.
Nigthtwing climbs up near the other shipping container and KO’s Luke from height. Jessica reluctantly takes over.
Jessica Jones, rather than attacking Nightwing from height disadvantage, takes to a hill next to the shipping container.
Nightwing punches down on Jessica for one wound.
Jessica climbs up onto the shipping container beside Nightwing and catches him whiffing against all skulls to finish it.

Unit Summary: The round 3 initiative swing was a big one, as it allowed the Fighters to take out Starfire before she could get going. Winning initiative again in round 4 was huge for the Fighters. Foggy giving Matt the second “X” to block attacks is probably too powerful for the cost.

• CRIMINAL DISCOVERY: I never used this because the “X” was more valuable elsewhere and because Nightwing was just fine with becoming a Criminal (no downside) rather than letting Jessica know where the “X” was.

Who won? List figures remaining in the winning army (include life remaining for heroes): Jessica Jones with 3/5 Life, Daredevil with Full Life, and Foggy Nelson with Full Life win.

UNIT SUMMARY: Foggy combos well with Matt Murdock and either Daredevil. He combos well with Luke and Jessica Jones as well. Right now I think Nelson and Murdock letting Matt block two figure attack phases per round is a bit too strong for what he costs. I think that needs to be dialed back somehow, even if just through raising his cost. Other changes that could be made would probably have to be on Matt’s card (like limiting the defensive bit to once per round, which would make the attack part or Criminal Discovery better options).

For Criminal Discovery, you never really want to put an “X” on Foggy instead of a Matt Murdock, so I think the cost is wrong right now. Putting an “X” on him just doesn’t work within his synergy group. In a lot of match ups, enemy figures simply don’t mind becoming Criminals. Unless some other bonus comes from making figures criminals or you build your army around it, it really doesn’t matter. If you *do* build your army around it, and Daredevil (I) can work that, it’s tough to also build your army around really wanting to know where OM’s are placed. OM viewing powers are always tough to gauge in solo tests, though.

The big thing I’d suggest for Criminal Discovery is to make it based on choosing a figure in clear sight of Foggy (forces him just a tad more into the action) rather than an unrevealed Order Marker on Foggy. You might even make it like “within 10 clear sight spaces” to make it more of a cost. The counterbalance would be you could either make the Criminal Class a disruptive “instead of” classing, or you could add a bonus like +1 defense against Criminal Figures somewhere (like for Matt, Foggy, and Clients).

MAP SUMMARY:

Overall Look: I’m not biased, and I love it. It drips with theme and is really evocative and it’s fun to have all the DO’s on there.

Stability: Also played it on TTS but no noticeable issues. You’ll just want to make sure you have stable shipping containers.

Build difficulty: Should be straight forward. Building the shipping containers themselves is more difficult.

Size: They told me size doesn’t matter. Nah, in seriousness, it doesn’t take that long to get into the action but start zone bombing isn’t easy on it, so it seems a good size for a competitive map.

Unit types positively affected: None of the figures I played felt too dominant on it, though the shipping containers were the choice placement so, yes, ranged flyers/jumpers like it. Figure movers also like it, especially with the chance to toss Toxic Waste Barrels. It’s no lava map, though.

Unit types negatively affected: Slow moving, melee only figures do struggle a bit more but a lot of LOS blockers and anti-range defensive boosts helps.

Key areas on the Map: Height on top of shipping containers and any of the areas around the plants/palm trees.

Areas not used much or at all: Most of the action in my games focused on either the shipping containers or the asphalt patch between them as figures tried to cross over and attack shooters. The Parked 18-wheelers were cool LOS blockers for start zone figures, but didn’t really come into play, and the Porta Johns didn’t feel terribly relevant either.

As I mentioned earlier, I wonder if there should be more of a reward for aggressive figures crossing into the center of the map (like a glyph in the asphalt area) to discourage just camping on shipping containers and sniping at each other. I did use different parts of the map during my different plays, though, which was cool.

Thanks for the test Bats. Looks like Foggy needs some reworking again. Maybe we drop Criminal Discovery all together like previously suggested, then work on fixing his sole remaining power.

I think the biggest thing with Criminal Discovery is the OM restriction doesn’t work. Something like picking a figure in clear sight to look at OMs instead would work. Especially if a future Fighter/Crime Fighter cares about Criminals or a future Vigilante Daredevil buddy cares about OM placement.

So if we go back to Murdock and limit his Public Defender to once per round, what kind of process would that entail?

Would it be easier just to modify Foggy at this point? I think I would prefer just to add once per round limiting language to Matt, but procedurally, if that is more difficult, then I'm open to working on Foggy's power without touching Matt.

That’s a question for the Heroes. I agree that’d be better in terms of overall design, though.

It would involve a proposal and a vote by the Heroes. Not saying it can't happen, but we did recently vote down a mechanical design change under the premise that we've been too loose with doing those recently. (I think one could argue that the change in question was less important though.)

Fwiw, I feel like there's plenty of room to make Nelson and Murdock power work without changing Matt.
