Nobody has to like every movie. I was disappointed with GotG2, I thought a lot of the attempt at comedy was stupid. But that's just me. I fell asleep during Out of Africa. Thought it was boring as hell. I loved GotG 2 - right up there as one of my top 5 Marvel films. |

Re: The C3G Cave - Hangout
GotG2 is one of my least favorite MCU films. Possibly the very bottom. Sure it was fun, but the plot itself was terrible.
Characters completely changed what they were from the first one, just to be convenient (Or tearjerky....), and so many major plot points happened at the exact time they needed to. They didn't even try to mask the convenient plot-timing. It was super jarring to me. |

Re: The C3G Cave - Hangout
I loved Black Panther. Went into it cautiously because it was being praised as this super political thing, but it became one of my favorite Marvel movies. Killmonger is one of the coolest villains Marvel's had.
GOTG2 went a little too heavy on the comedy (Taserface & the ending with Ego had some parts that took me out of the movie), but overall I enjoyed it. The serious moments were generally kept serious. I'm a weirdo that didn't love Ragnarok like everyone else (I did still like it). It was funny and creative but it totally reinvented the Thor characters and I thought the comedy took away from the serious moments. Infinity War managed to balance that a lot better. (And Endgame went backwards with Thor.) |

Re: The C3G Cave - Hangout
My main issue with Black Panther and Ragnarok is that they felt like two movies mashed together. With Black Panther, the first hour or so has little-to-no bearing on the second. The entire second act is squarely based on something Killmonger decided to do, irrelevant to the actions of the heroes in the first act.
Ragnarok is more obviously two movies smashed together. The Planet Hulk stuff just felt like a stop gap because they couldn't be bothered to actually flesh out a Hela movie. |

Re: The C3G Cave - Hangout
I can see that as a point about Ragnarok, but “Hero gets kicked out of status quo land to weird new location, finds allies and learns lesson, then returns to defeat challenge in status quo land” is a tried and true framework for a story. Plus...does anyone really want to watch the hypothetical 2+ hour movie just about the Hela stuff? If anything, I wish they had leaned more on the Planet Hulk stuff.

Re: The C3G Cave - Hangout
The main issue I have with Ragnarok isn't actually with Ragnarok - it's with the other two films. Ragnarok works on its own, but seeing Asgard burn would have been a lot more effective if the last two films had given us much reason to care about Asgard as a place, as a world - they failed to get me, at least, invested in Thor's homeland. As a result, the big emotional sacrifice of the film felt a little flatter and emptier than it should have done, IMO.
Still another MCU film that's easily in my top 5. |

Re: The C3G Cave - Hangout
GOTG2 is my favorite MCU movie by a nose over the original. The comedy isn't great (in general they just didn't know when to reel it in) but the character work felt completely genuine to me. It's a bit "too much" in spots, but that's one of the things I appreciate.

Re: The C3G Cave - Hangout
No, it's not. The comedy felt like filler to stretch the movie out. Which is weird, though I'm not very familiar with the comic story line, it seemed like they were trying to jam 2 or more movie's worth of material into that one film.

Re: The C3G Cave - Hangout
I don’t really think there is an original comic story there. Anyways, each major plotline (except maybe Yondu/Rocket) in that movie all ties back to this concept of familial bonds. You have Peter and his two dads, Gamora and Nebula, and even Rocket taking on a fatherly role with Groot. In that sense, I think it makes sense that it’s all part of 1 movie.
